Entry tags:!incomplete, amelia bones, arthur weasley, dorcas meadowes, fabian prewett, gideon prewett, hestia jones, james potter, kira fenwick, lily evans, remus lupin, septima vector, sirius black

Characters: Gryffindors and/or anyone friendly with the Marauders, even in passing, including friends of friends of friends...the more, the merrier!
Setting: Gryffindor common room, after dinner on Sunday, 31 October
Content: NSFW, likely, for mentions of drunken debauchery by underage witches and wizards. And probably also costumes that are, erm, less than proper.
Summary: It is Sirius Black's birthday, and you know what that means!

One of Sirius' favourite things about his birthday was that it was Halloween. Some people might have resented sharing their birthday with a holiday, but not Sirius. For him, the addition of Halloween just gave him an excuse to make his annual party even larger than it would have been already.

Once he had rolled out of bed midmorning, eaten brunch, and downed some hangover potion, he had spent at least a fair portion of the afternoon getting ready for the party. He went down to Hogsmeade one last time to pick up some treats from Honeydukes', then, along with the other Marauders, kicked everybody out of the common room and started work. They enlarged the room a bit with magic, pushed all the tables and chairs to the perimeter of the room, put up several magical and somewhat frightening decorations, asked the house-elves to send up some refreshments, and prepared their impressive store of alcohol. Sirius also sweet-talked the Fat Lady into letting any and all partygoers into the common room for the evening, regardless of password knowledge, except those who weren't wearing masks (since enchanted masks were his requirement of the year, after all).

Once everything was set, Sirius headed back up to his dormitory to change into his costume, then returned to the common room with his mates and waited for the partygoers to drift in as dinner finished.

[OOC note: As mentioned in a couple of entries, enchanted masks are the rule of the party! The Fat Lady won't let you in if you aren't wearing one! The deal with the masks is they've got a mild confundus charm on them, so the wearer won't be recognized, even if they normally would be. If someone has already told you who they are, or you know what they're wearing, then you will recognize them, but other than that, you don't know who anyone wearing a mask is!

Also, feel free to reply to this in multiple subthreads, just like at the ball. This is a big party, and it's not ALL about Sirius, much as he'd like to think so ;) Feel free to godmod Sirius as welcoming your characters, offering them drinks, etc, and if you want to include him in a thread, you don't need to ask me, just go right on ahead! I'd make location comments, but the common room's not really big enough. Let me know if you have any questions!]

The boy who'd come up behind her definitely caught Kira by surprise. Had she seen him coming, she probably would have evaded the interaction. It wasn't exactly Kira being the typical shrew, rather she was extremely cautious. Having been burned by boys more than enough for her liking, even masked identities didn't make her feel any more secure. Nevertheless she couldn't see someone as sensible as herself really falling for a stranger with an unknown identity, so maybe the mask was more of a safeguard than she gave it credit for. As the boy took the cloak from her, she smirked. Though tempted to ask him whether or not it was acceptable to put one's hands all over someone else's things where he'd come from, she refrained this once. Kira could seem heartless at times, but she wasn't so bad as to offend a boy who possibly only had confidence when his identity was hidden. Once she got a proper feel for this boy she'd bring out the typical Kira, but not a second sooner. "Cheers," she added, watching as he draped her cloak around the lion statue. He seemed confident enough leaving it there, so either he couldn't care less what happened to her cloak or he was secure enough with the Gryffindor common room to know it wouldn't just walk out. Though the typical Ravenclaw in her had to begin guessing which house he belonged to, Kira rationalized a mask paired with confundus could leave anyone looking otherwise. She still found it rather amusing he thought her to be gorgeous despite not properly knowing and seeing her for who she was, but went along with the compliment all the same.

Once the boy turned back around, Kira averted her eyes back to his. His attire alone told her he took pride in himself, and at least that was admirable. When the stranger offered her a dance, Kira thought about it for a second before wrapping her arm around his. "Gladly." Stranger or no, dancing was certainly a weakness of hers. As was displayed so plainly the previous night, Kira didn't discriminate on the dance floor. She had no problem dancing with Xenophilius Lovegood, who had taken the form of some erroneous purple creature, when one of her favorite songs had come on.

As they made their way through the crowd toward the center of the room where the music was its loudest, Kira kept a lookout to see if she could spot any of her mates. No one in the common room appeared to be wearing anything she'd seen before, so that didn't help her case any. That aside, she thought for sure Sirius would be a dead giveaway. His overly cocky, confident manner could only be mistaken with one other--James. To her surprise, no one struck her as being either of them. Mentally shrugging off her reserve once the couple had come to a stop, Kira turned to face him. Her eyes were glued to his for a second before she took his hands in hers. It seemed as if they'd caught the tail end of a more upbeat song, so she wasn't sure if they were meant to wait for the next one or to have at it now. Either way, she wasn't about to stand there looking lost. Far be it from Kira to not take the initiative. Holding the boy's hands allowed her enough space between them to keep from getting too inappropriate, considering the way she moved would have warranted a second glance from her brother if only he'd known any better.

Typically Kira would have made small talk, but the fast-paced and rather loud song allowed for otherwise. Content with dancing alone, Kira finally became slightly more comfortable releasing the boy's hands in order to dance properly on her own. Though she was unaware of it, the students around them kept unconsciously creeping closer to the couple, making it almost inevitable that the pair dance closer. By the time Kira realized what had happened, she was within inches of the boy's body. Resting her hands on his chest as they moved to keep some sort of decency between them, she finally decided it was time to make small talk about the only thing she assumed everyone at the party had in common. "So... how do you know the birthday boy?" she chimed in rather loudly, just when the song began to fade into a slower one. Kira slowed her movements to an abrupt halt as if expecting that to be the end of their dance.

As if it were necessary in addition to all of his other gifts, Sirius Black was quite a good dancer. When this mysterious blonde accepted his invitation to a dance, he couldn't help but grin. The first song was rather fast-paced, which made Sirius remember the slight debacle of last night. He had very nearly come to blows with the Head Boy on the dance floor, and for what? Far from deciding to censor himself, with this one, Sirius decided instead to not divulge his identity this time. After all, his reputation proceeded him, and it would be interesting to see where he got with a bird who didn't know who he was, for a change.

He was also well glad that the other students at his party were the pushy sort, because despite the girl's apparent propriety, they were being pushed closer and closer together. Even when she put her hands against his chest a bit, he continued to try to slip closer to her whenever possible.

When the song ended and another started up, Sirius didn't particularly want to stop dancing with her. For his part, he was having quite a good time thus far. Therefore, as the slower song began, Sirius simply slipped his arms around her waist and continued dancing, coaxing her into moving along with him. At her question, he gave a slight noncommittal shrug. "Housemates," Sirius answered, which wasn't so much a lie as an omission of the truth.

Eager to change the topic, he didn't ask her the same question, as he might have otherwise done to try and suss out her identity. Instead, he shifted just a bit closer to her and continued the conversation. "My guess would be that you're..." He paused for a moment, as if in contemplation, and continued, "A Ravenclaw? Rowena always did like beautiful things, or so they say."

The mystery boy certainly kept Kira guessing. She couldn't put a finger on anyone he reminded her of. Surely someone who danced as well as he did would have caught her attention before that night. It wasn't someone she'd danced with at the Halloween ball, at least that much was certain. She would have remembered despite the confundus charm, or so she'd convinced herself anyway. Needless to say, his true identity was secure.

Dancing with a boy who appeared to respect her personal space was an added bonus. He didn't seem too eager to please himself, which meant she had the reigns. Yet again, this was another thing working in his favor. It gave Kira enough time to feel out the situation and decide if he was the type of guy she wouldn't mind spending a little more time with throughout evening. Once she'd decided it was more enjoyable and relaxed than anything, she'd made up her mind to worry about finding her mates later. Why not live in the moment while she was here?

As his hands slipped around her waist, she followed his lead and rested her own around his neck. Granted it was near impossible to avoid any form of physical closeness at this point. Still Kira tried her best to refrain from her body pressing against his, not wanting to give off the vibe that she was in any way easy. It was an uncomfortable first few measures, but as their talking continued, she eased up a little more. "Sharing the evening with a Gryffindor. How could I be so lucky?" she added with a smile, her eyes shifting back to his as they danced. It was a given the girl was drawn to bold personalities. Well over half her mates were from Godric's house. Of course at that point she was gathering a list of Gryffindors she could have been dancing with, hoping to narrow some down in her head. It had to be someone from the upper years considering his height, of that she was almost positive. Maybe one of the Prewett twins or perhaps Osric Finnigan? Her mind became fuzzier the more she tried to reason through it, so Kira caved to the rather strong power of confundus and decided to enjoy her company despite herself.

Kira's instinct was to provide more room between them as mystery wonder boy shifted closer to her, but against her better judgment she remained fixed in her position. She cast her gaze downward briefly, trying to stifle the smile and maintain a steady composure prior to looking at him again. Unfortunately it was in vain. The second their eyes met again, the easy smile returned. "First I'm gorgeous, now I'm beautiful. I wonder what I'll be in the next ten minutes or so," she teased, chewing on her lip briefly before giving her head a slight nod. "You have me figured out already, sir. I do belong to Rowena."

Her better sense told her to err on the side of caution, but the hopeless romantic within that was dying to get out for the first time in ages to stretch her legs insisted otherwise. Kira relaxed a bit more in her partner's arms, allowing her torso to press against him as he led the dance. Once it became too overwhelming to continue to stare into his eyes, Kira rested her head against his shoulder to give her a moment's reprieve. When she had collected her thoughts again, Kira straightened up to give him another smile. "I think I could use a drink. You interested, Gryffindor, or would I be keeping you from something?" Without so much as a moment of reserve, Kira backed out of the mystery boy's arms, allowing her right hand to linger against his suit vest before turning away to walk toward the refreshment table where they'd first met up. Sure, it wasn't a complete dance, but she figured if he was going to hold her to it, that would guarantee her a second turn about the dance floor with someone she perceived to be fairly charming thus far. It was a win-win situation as far as she could see.

Maybe on another night, Sirius would have been more curious about the identity of this mystery girl, but tonight, the entire point was to be anonymous. Besides, it didn't really matter. He had established that she wasn't a Slytherin, which was good enough for him. Add to that that she was gorgeous, somewhat scantily clad, and seemed to be playing right along with his flattery nicely, and he was perfectly content to follow this interaction wherever it may lead. When she pointed his compliments out, Sirius grinned his effortlessly charming grin. "Oh, I've got sorts of compliments I can give you. I know you Ravenclaws like a bloke with a big," he paused for a moment, and just a flicker of devilishness passed over his eyes, before he continued, "vocabulary."

He enjoyed the slower dance, too, making sure not to let his hands slip anywhere as he might normally. With Ravenclaws, you had to keep yourself in check until just the right moment. It was tricky business, but Sirius had always enjoyed a challenge. He figured that if he continued being charming and playing his cards right, he would manage to get what he wanted out of this. When she broke away and suggested getting a drink, Sirius followed her, catching up to her as they neared the table.

Casually, he rested his left hand on the small of her back, then leaned his other hand on the bar. "What do you drink? Looks like Sirius got quite the spread," he said, mouth fairly close to her ear. Slowly but surely, he was ramping up the physical contact. Of course, a drink for the pair of them couldn't hurt things either.
