Summary: This is the end of the year Ball, for some students it will be the last.
Ginny looked around, definitely please with herself. She put her hands on her hips and grinned. She had offered to help organize the Ball this year and was very glad she had done so. Usually she'd let other teachers handle such things but this year was slightly different. It was James' last year and after that, it would be Albus' then Lily's. Ginny couldn't believe it had been so long now and even that night, it felt like James was still a Firstie, mad he wasn't allowed at the Ball. For the Ball was for Fourth Year and up, a reward for having worked so hard on the exams.
Blinking away a few tears and released a breath as she turned to her son, who looked quite like a gentleman in his formal robes. They were simple black and white robes, much like the ones James had worn for the Yule Ball back when they were at school. "You look dashing, dear." she said in a soft voice as she placed his bow. "What? Why are you smiling like you know something that I don't?" Ginny asked James, cocking her head to the side.
"Because.. well, I don't. I'm just very happy tonight." James answered, blushing just a little bit. What would have been a night of dancing with various girls, making everyone happy was turning out to be a night he would probably remember all his life. "Very nice job, Mum." He added, looking around.
"You better be happy. You are.. done with exams." Ginny said, bringing out her own smirk. On the other hand, she was still quite unhappy with her husband.
"That I am." James answered brightly.
"Just don't do anything.. impulsive, darling." She warned him with a smile.
"I won't. Everything is carefully planned." James said in an attempt to appease her doubts but it was no use. "Okay, I'm going to go to the dungeons to get my date for tonight." It was the first time he had a date for such an event. It was new and fun at the same time. "I'll see you later, okay?"
"Okay, you go get your girl." Ginny said excitedly. She had seen her son grow from a young man keeping everyone at a arm's length to someone who had willingly let Cambrey into his world. His heart even. She wasn't blind..
As James strolled out of the Great Hall, she turned her attention to the food table. Perfect.. There were snacks and drinks for everyone and thought they had done well to not include dinner, everyone had had dinner before they turned the Great Hall into a Ballroom.
Round tables were decorated in white and blue and gathered in a way that reminded her of the Yule Ball so it would give plenty of room to dance. The whole room was now ready for the students to enter.
