FIRE IN HOGSMEADE; HOGWARTS STUDENTS INVOLVED
Less than one week ago, on Wednesday, 9 September 1942, the Hogwarts Inquisition was called for the first time this century, under the leadership of Professor Jubal William Goyle, who promised to set things right following the deaths of Professor Douglas Barlowe, Miss Claire Jeannot and Miss Giselle de Rais. The concerned parents of Britannia were promised by the War Bureau that Professor Goyle would put an end to the disorganisation, disorder and mismanagement at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
It is difficult to see how things can possibly have improved, given that last night, The Three Broomsticks (a Hogsmeade institution since 1742, beloved of nearly all Hogwarts alumni) went up in a blaze that is variously said to have been started either by called lightning or by a gaslight accident, but was certainly the work of the students who were holding a party there after their curfew. Miss Philippa Brown joined the ranks of the Hogwarts dead last night during the fire, at which a number of students and townspeople were also injured.
Two professors have also died since Inquisitor Goyle took office—Professor Binns, who is said to have died of old age, and Professor Lucas Bettony, who also died last night, under circumstances which have not been revealed.
Fortunately, Armando Dippet has retired as Headmaster, and Professor Albus Dumbledore has taken his place; we can only trust that Professor Dumbledore will soon bring matters under control, since the Inquisition has proven unable to manage it.
Our sympathy remains with the families and friends of Miss Brown, Miss de Rais, Miss Jeannot, and Professors Barlowe, Binns and Bettony.
