No, Zeke was never Holly's boyfriend, not back then. Not now either. He'd wanted to be, but he'd been too scared to do anything about it, afraid that if she didn't return those feelings, then he'd just fuck up the good thing they had and he'd lose his best friend. It wasn't like anything that happened in the past mattered much now, because it was all said and done. All he could do was try to fix the present, because he wasn't sure he could deal with his jealousy for much longer, much less deal with not talking to Holly while he was at it.
"What if she doesn't listen?" Zeke was scared now, this being a whole new territory for him. He wanted to tell her, he did, it just wasn't that easy. It was hard enough getting the words out now, for crying out loud. But Calista looked like she believed in it, and he would try. He rubbed at his eyes for a second, drawing a couple deep breaths. He was still shaking, and a small gust of wind blew up from nowhere and started to swirl around him. "I mean, like... I guess it's kind of obvious, the way I feel about her. I've just... never put it into words."
