Son, can you play me a memory?
Who: Ryder and Kiara
When: Evening
Where: Superstition
It had been another one of those mornings, where Ryder had simply fallen asleep behind the bar. He'd gone back to the motel to shower and change this morning but other than that, he'd been at Superstition close to 60 hours by now. Still, he wasn't anywhere near as tired as he should have been. Still, it was a pretty slow night. Mondays were always pretty quiet and there was this whole Battle of the Bands thing going on somewhere that was bound to have drawn a lot of their would-be customers away. Standing behind the counter, he only had a couple customers, with only two sitting at the bar. Neither of them were ordering fancy drinks (just a beer & a gin and tonic) so Ryder pulled out his tarot cards and started flipping them casually, asking random questions. He'd learned a while ago not to ask questions about his past on shift. The last time he'd tried it, he'd gotten a splitting headache and broken nearly two hundred dollars' worth of alcohol in his little mini-seizure. Not to mention scared off several customers. That had been the last time he'd used tarot to check for his past.
He started off with a simple Celtic cross spread, placing the ten cards face up behind the bar. His deck was sized so that it could all fit on the small space he had to work in. He sighed as his final card was The Moon. Typical. The Moon signified delusion and uncertainty, following one's instincts and just confusion in general. Story of my life, Ryder sighed and smiled at one of the men who was now watching him with a curious look on his face. "Would you like a reading?" Ryder asked with a smile. He usually charged but he sometimes did it free for customers and considered it just a quirk of the store. The other man nodded and Ryder came around to sit by the man on the stool next to him. "This is a basic spread...first card is your present situation, the Knight of Cups...a good card, romance and love...perhaps a proposal? Crossed by...the Eight of Swords...restriction. Are you afraid of commitment? Or is she?" Ryder continued his spread, opening cards and explaining them to the man. He tried not to read too much into the cards and usually ending his statements in questions. Some people didn't like being told what was going on. That also ended in bar brawls and people getting ejected. Ryder had learned much since he first started working at Superstition.
