Here's to the night
Who: Liliya, whoever she invited to her dinner party and various NPCs (Liliya's family and sire)
Where: Kennedy home
When: After the sun sets
Due to circumstances beyond her control - meaning Whisper's little dress up and play photo shoot that was for charity and therefore completely necessary no matter what anyone said or thought - Liliya had needed to cancel original plans to have her birthday 'celebration' on her actual birthday. The following night should serve just as well and if fewer people could come then all the better. Less polite banter that she would be expected to engage in and fewer members of her House who would come with Maureen. Because oh, her sire could not simply leave her be for something like this. No, Maureen had emailed to ask when she was celebrating and even though Liliya had not extended an express invitation she knew that she was going to be there the moment that the sun set along with several of the others. Liliya knew the vampires that Maureen worked with and got on well enough with them but they were all older than her. Having them combined in with Maureen always served to make her feel like a child who had wandered in on adults having conversation not meant for her ears. And she hated feeling that way. She was a grown woman who had been turned to take the position that none of them wanted, groomed for it even, and being made to feel as though she did not deserve it never sat well with her.
She had just finished putting her earrings in when she heard the doorbell ring. Knowing that Naoki would not hear it, she was not even sure what the man was up to right then, Liliya looked over her outfit one more time before going to answer the door. Before she laid her fingers on the handle she knew that Maureen was waiting on the other end with two others. Luke and Kevin, probably, her other children, both of whom had at least five decades on Liliya. Smoothing away the frown that had started she opened the door and smiled at the three of them. "Good evening, please come in." Part of her wanted to tell them to stay out since, with Naoki living there, they did require permission but she doubted she wanted to pay for that. "There's refreshments in the kitchen." Luke and Kevin were automatically off towards there, dropping cards onto an end table that Liliya had not meant to be used for that purpose, talking about something that had happened in Lansing. Maureen, however, remained there, eyebrow raised as she took in Liliya's attire. "Hello, Maureen."
"You look like you're prepared to go to a funeral," Maureen started. Technically... I am dead so doesn't it make sense to wear black? I'm not physically a day older than my last living birthday. "Did you really need to wear black on your birthday?"
Here we go. In some ways Maureen could be so much like her mother. The mother who was going to be there because no matter what Liliya said or what she was, her family still insisted on seeing her as often as they could. "My birthday was yesterday and I wasn't wearing black then, so no, I didn't have to wear black on my birthday at all. I have your bloodtype set out special since I knew you were coming if you'd care for that."
"And angelic?"
Liliya allowed herself a smile. "That's for me. Go along, Maureen, I have to greet the rest of my guests. I'm sure we can catch up later." As though on cue the doorbell rang again, the scent of fresh blood wafting over her and she touched her forehead, slightly dizzied by the assault. It appeared that her family had arrived after all. Good thing that she had had Naoki set out food suitable for human consumption since he would not be the only one there.
