I hate to look into those eyes and see an ounce of pain
Who: Viuly, Liam (NPC), Mittens (NPC), and Zazriel (NPC)
Where: Theiss household
When: Morning
Viuly didn't know which was worse: being woken up with a cat in your face or a 3-year-old kid in your face. Her head still throbbed from the prior night of binge drinking with a couple of her friends. So what if it was a Monday night? If a bar was opened, then it was fair game in her book. Liam busy tugging at his mother, trying to get her to wake up so he could have some breakfast. "Mommy, I'm hungry!" Viuly just ignored him and tried to roll over, only to realize that was harder than she thought when a certain kitty was curled up on her back. Do you mind? I was enjoying myself here, Mittens perked up in her mind while yawning. With a sigh, Viuly simply buried her head back into her pillow, wishing she could be left alone long enough to get over her hangover. I'd advise you to get up and get your day going instead of being a schlump in bed. Besides, doesn't your father expect-
Mittens didn't even need to finish that sentence and Viuly shot right up in bed, causing the tuxedo cat to meow as he slid on off. Any mention of Zazriel was enough to get the redhead going, even if it was going to be a useful effort. Maybe this morning could be different. She always hoped that maybe it would be. Rubbing her eyes with a groan, Liam's excited cries fell upon deaf ears as she ignored the kid while crawling out of bed. Clad in a pair of shorts and a tank top, Viuly sloppily pulled her hair back into a half-assed bun while slowly making her way downstairs to the kitchen. Something seemed... off. It was quiet.
"...where the hell is the brat?"
You mean Lumi? Mittens purred and rubbed up against her leg.
"Yeah, whatever."
I believe I spotted her heading out this morning.
Oh perfect. Lumi was out for the morning, which meant her headache was more manageable without the spoiled bitch running around. That and Viuly wouldn't have to ruin some eggs by burning them for Lumi. Shuffling over to the counter, she lazily worked her telekinesis to pull out various plates and silverware, along with a big ol' mug for her coffee that she began brewing. Liam stayed by his mother's side, tugging at her shorts while he asked her to make him pancakes. Any other mother would look down at him with a smile and promise him pancakes with a smiley face in chocolate chips. Viuly? She didn't even acknowledge the kid. Too selfish to even consider the fact he had been waiting for a couple of hours for food. Viuly was going to make her coffee and food first before even worrying about Liam.
Taking a seat by the middle island, Viuly took massive gulps of her steaming drink, not once flinching at how hot it was, barely touching the bagel she made for herself. It's an absolutely fabulous day outside! Mittens had jumped up on the counter to sprawl out by the window. You should take advantage of this moment, Vi. Perhaps take the little one out to the park. Oh, Liam liked that idea way too much. "Yay! Mommy mommy! Can we go to the park! Pleaaaaaase?" She turned her head to glance down at the kid, trying hard not to let her heart break as those piercing, blue eyes stared up at her. Each time she looked at Liam, she saw him. Both of them, in fact. Just a constant reminder that neither Cael or Leon were ever coming back. Her child was more of a burden in that regard.
With a sigh, Viuly rubbed the side of her head and shook it lightly, "Not today, Liam."
"But, but-"
"Mommy has a headache and her medicine won't work on this."
The blue-eyed boy pouted with puppy eyes, not liking this idea at all. Mittens simply thumped his tail against the windowsill while speaking strictly to his mistress. I don't understand WHY you insist on being such a stick in the mud.
And I don't understand why you honestly give a fuck, she shot right back at her familiar, staring at him before returning her attention back to her cup of coffee. A few more gulps and it was enough to dull down the pain throbbing in her head, thus letting her get up and begin making breakfast for the household. While Liam was jumping up and down over pancakes, Viuly busied herself with another meal first. Zazriel wasn't a fan of pancakes and preferred poached eggs over corned beef hash and a side of light rye toast. No butter, no jam, and a lot of pepper on the eggs. She tried perfecting that very meal for years, hoping that maybe he'd look up to her one day and thank her for making it. Thank her for doing it better than Lillian ever could. Thank her for sticking around in the house to take care of him.
She sighed gently at the thoughts, knowing they were wishful thinking at best. Continuing to prepare the food, she used her telekinesis to open a couple cupboard doors to grab whatever she needed. It was the lazy way of going about it, but she figured if she could do it, then might as well take advantage of it. Though the second her left eye began burning and that one dish she was not focusing on was rattling, she knew the rest of her morning was going to flat out suck.
That mere twinge of pain for a second was all Viuly ever got as a warning before the curse activated. She could have lit a candle, lifted up a pencil, a car, a person, anything. It didn't matter - it was grounds for the curse to activate. The scars lingering over the left side of her body instantly light up, as if smoldering with dark fire. By the time Viuly dropped to her knees, all the dishes in the cupboards had flung out and began twirling about in the kitchen as if dancing in a nonexistent tornado. Viuly clenched her jaw, not enjoying the pain that was thrumming in her body, knowing that curse ate her up each and every time it went off. Liam screamed as the drawer of knives came out and began lodging themselves into the opposite wall at full speed. The sound of ceramics crashing into solid objects was the only thing outdoing her child's panicked cries. She did her best to grab him and pull him under the table with her to wait for this shitstorm to blow over. And that was all she could ever do - wait it out.
This one was a long one in comparison to past episodes, lasting a good three minutes before it ended. When it was over, Viuly opened her eyes and spotted virtually every dish and pot and pan being fucked up beyond all repair. Awesome... Mittens finally came out from his hiding spot from under the sink, padding his way over to Viuly to nuzzle into her. Are you alright? You look frazzled.
"Not exactly how I expected to spend my morning." Hungover? She accepted and welcomed that with opened arms. Her curse activating? Not so much. Now she couldn't figure out if her head was pounding due to said hangover or the fact Liam would not. shut. up. "Liam, it's over. Shhhh, don't cry, it's ok." I don't think it's working, Mittens pointed out as the kid continued to bawl his eyes out. Rolling her eyes, she looked to Liam again and tried to smile softly, just like her own mother had when she had a bad day. "Sweetie, please... you don't have anything to be afraid of." Though Liam only continued to cry. Why did this have to be so difficult? Why couldn't Cael be here? For the love of everything, why? He would know what to do. He could just hold the kid and Liam would have silenced. The earth elemental had that patient, loving touch about him. Viuly knew, of all people. If it worked on her, it could work on a kid.
Though Viuly wasn't Cael. She wasn't patient or kind or loving when a throbbing headache was involved. Her eyes flared up as she narrowed them onto her child, then latched her hands onto his shoulder and shook him roughly before bellowing, "SHUT. UP." Why that worked was beyond Viuly. Liam's cries were silenced into a state of shock while he looked at his mother, still sniffling and wibbling the whole time. Though that silence wasn't welcoming for very long, for a sharp, repetitive knock on the floor came into earshot, growing closer and closer.
"What the fuck happened here?"
Viuly was a big girl. A tough one at that, but if there was one person who made her shrink to three inches high, it was Zazriel. Shaking slightly, she poked her head out from underneath to spot the older man trying to hold himself up with just a cane.
"Oh, right, I forgot you live here. That explains everything." Drier than a desert and actually made Hitler seem like a sentimental individual. Zazriel wobbled his way on over to the counter, doing his best to avoid the broken shards of dishes littering the floor while he inspected the state of the coffee. "You couldn't even try and salvage the damn coffee?"
"Dad, I can't con-"
"Tch, useless. Full of excuses."
Viuly swallowed hard while she stepped out from under the table, mentally telling Mittens to take care of Liam while she confronted Zazriel. Her one good eye darted around the area, actually seeing that her initial cup of coffee was still intact. Oh, this was a godsend. "Here," she reached out for the cup and extended it out to Zazriel, trying ridiculously hard not to shake in his presence. "You can have mine if you-"
With his free hand, Zazriel backhanded the cup out of Viuly's grasp, adding it to the pile of broken dishware. Viuly found herself flinching at his actions, desperately trying to recompose herself so who would think even less of her. "You actually think I want your cup of crap? What happened, wake up on the wrong side of the bed again or is that vodka still distorting whatever you have left for a brain in there?" And to think that this was actually tame for Zazriel. Viuly stood there and took the verbal abuse, blinking her eyes before quietly speaking up again.
"I'm sorry."
"Sorry? Sorry ain't going to cut it, cupcake. If you're so persistent on being sorry, then why don't you clean up your damn mess and go on with your day, hmm?" Zazriel's eyes widened while speaking, then proceeded to walk off into the living room in hopes the television would be more soothing than the sight of his daughter. As he left Viuly alone in the kitchen, she stood there for a second, feeling as if a slap to the face would have been better than the treatment she was just given. So much for relaxing this morning. Now she would have to go out and replace the entire kitchenware... again.
