Well there went any and all slivers of hope that Charlene had held onto for a happy little reunion. Those slivers had not been very big in the first place but they had existed and now they had practically gone and exploded with the sound of that accusation. Of course she had needed to expect it because this was Nixie and she had a thing against non-merfolk, just like everyone else in the pod. Well, mostly fishermen, but apparently it extended just as well to people that her sister had interactions with. She briefly wondered if this same reaction would have been brought about by just a friend who had two legs instead of a tail. Probably.
"Not at all," Charlene replied at last, voice just as full of anger. This was Nixie and she had been worried about her - for good reason apparently - and yet here she was being all accusatory and making what should have been a pleasant reunion as far from that as she possibly could. "My wound was on my side and yes, I'm mated to her." Charlene was proud of that fact. Extremely proud. There was nothing, nothing at all, wrong with Roxy and she would defend her against anyone. Sister included. "You're not going to let that bother you, are you? You're my sister and I want you happy for me... can't say you didn't see this coming, me being different." If she kept talking then Nixie would stop being upset because that had to be what happened.
