My heart is drenched in wine
Who: Laurent and Rae
Where: Broadway St.
When: After sunset
While Laurent worked at Heme he was not a constant worker and that night he had decided to take off. He had made plans to visit Odette, perhaps take a walk in her dreams and perhaps talk about old times. About France. One of the only people he knew with whom he could talk about his home and actually feel like she understood. Oh others came from France, but they did not know it from long enough ago, from before the Revolution. When there were still Kings and all of that. A painful nostalgia but one that he did not embrace enough. If he did not speak of it then he would forget and the last thing he wanted was to forget. Raven-black hair and brilliantly blue eyes, flames licking at the skin - his sister, Maddie. Long since dead but still, she represented the France that he remembered and loved as much as anything else. And Odette? She understood that place and time.
The part where she was beautiful and intriguing and a soothing presence were all added bonuses.
A shift in the wind caused Laurent's hair to ruffle. Automatically he reached up to fix it and paused as, also automatically, he breathed in through his nose. Not because he needed the air but because he liked to know what else was around and scent could be very useful for that. Also meant that sometimes he would be able to catch someone before they snuck up on him. Scaring vampires was a lot harder than humans and - wait. Laurent paused and took another breath, eyes closing at the so familiar scent. It was tainted by the odor of what was definitely a man. So she's doing that again. Not that he had room to talk since he was on his way to see Odette, but Laurent had never been exactly reasonable in this regard and besides, he had never left.
Odette was gone from his mind when he turned towards the scent, placing a hand over his chest in an exaggerated motion. "Chérie," he begun, meaning that word more when he said it to her. "I didn't expect to see you in Scarlet Oak so soon but it's more beautiful for your presence. I was beginning to miss you." And all of the hurtful things, sleeping around, smelling of men... making me feel two inches tall. Ah, to have Rae in Scarlet Oak, just like everywhere else.
