Check Your Pulse
Who: Adelle and Oz
When: Late night
Where: Phonelines
Rain wasn't usually scary, and wind wasn't usually scary either. The two of them together wasn't anything special or out of the ordinary or completely terrifying. When you added in a newly placed curfew, hired a dozen new police officers, and the probability of getting drained by a vampire, that's when you started scaring Adelle. The little brunette wasn't easily scared by vampires either, she was attracted to them more than repulsed. Case in point, her virginity, taken by a gorgeous, mature blood drinker more than ten lifetimes her superior. But when the rain was pounding against her windows and the wind howled, echoed and whistled as it whipped trees around, then certain little sirens started to hear things.
To her own credit, she'd tried everything she could think of to calm her nerves. Pop filled the apartment as iTunes trawled through her massive playlist, the huge flatscreen television ran Who's Line Is It Anyway? reruns, and she'd pushed all of the furniture around so that she could twirl about and do the one thing that always calmed her down. But dancing wasn't helping. As easily as she could lose herself in the music, twisting, gyrating, tumbling and spinning, all it really took was one good bump or howl from the wind to bring her out of it and have her standing there, wondering when it was all going to end.
Had she thought it out earlier, the frightened siren would have hightailed it to spend the night with some friends, but sooner rather than later, night had fallen and she didn't want to brave the streets alone. The thought of being surrounded by the Diaz family was a happy one, but she was currently boycotting Roxy's parents for kicking her out. Stupid time to hold grudges, right? It wasn't like she was going to walk outside and all the vampires were going to be nice. They weren't going to be Whisper, Karine, or Graham. The vampires were draining people, killing them, a whole fudging lot of people. There was a vampire bar in town, too. Heme, if she was remembering it properly. If all the vampires had to do was go in and order blood or get it from a blood bank or something, then really, it was all the scary evil ones that were out killing.
After a good twenty minutes of standing there, lost in her own thoughts, Adelle finally moved. It was a twitch, but she found herself compelled to turn off everything, grab her phone and crawl into bed. She wanted to talk to somebody, anybody, and when she came across Oz's number all she could think of was that he would be the person that could keep her safe. He was huge for one, and with his were strength, he could probably punch THROUGH a vampire. Roxy too, but the penguin was probably curled up asleep, tired from her long, long day. Before she knew it, the phone was ringing against her ear and she was propped up against her headboard, knees pulled to her chest. Please, please, please pick up.
At the sound of something on the other end, Adelle let out a shaky, "Um... hey."
