After all these implements and texts designed by intellects
Who: Holly and Fiona
Where: bookstore
When: late morning
Holly had been in the middle of working on a translation when she realized that she'd left a few of her dictionaries and reference books in London. It would take too long to have them shipped - and would require a conversation with her boyfriend Jamie she wasn't sure she was ready to have - so the only thing to do was replace them. Hen Wen had been snoozing on her feet while she worked and snuffled as she was woken up by Holly moving. Is it time to wallow yet? her family asked rather sleepily. It had been raining for most of the morning and Hen Wen was looking forward to rolling around in the mud later. As were, no doubt, at least three of her less magical pets, though her father's two Siamese were unlikely to be impressed by the display. Holly loved animals, and cats were no exception, though Sekhmet and Bastet had always struck her as a little, well, snotty. She preferred her pets to take themselves a little less seriously, though in truth they tended to choose her rather than the other way around.
"No, not yet. You can come to the bookstore with me if you want, though." Hen Wen didn't look entirely convinced at first, wondering if the offer of a trip was just a distraction, but after a reassuring look from Holly, seemed to accept that the outing was legitimate. All right. But only if you think the others will behave without me here.
"I think Dad can handle the others, Hen." Holly pulled on her boots and jacket and grabbed her purse as they spoke. Satisfied that she had everything she needed, she scooped Hen Wen up into her arms and carried her downstairs. Twenty minutes later, she'd been rained on slightly, but was safely - and dryly - ensconced in the nearest bookstore. Hen Wen explored the bottom shelves and the shoes of everyone that passed while Holly scanned the foreign language shelves for the books she needed.
