A fishy bonding exercise
Who: Corentin, Nineveh and Claude
Where: An unoccupied boathouse.
When: Late morning.
It had occurred to Corentin at one point that the dockhouse probably had a human occupant, and that said occupant wouldn't take kindly to having a family of merfolk rifling through his or her things and bouncing naked on the couch.
That certainly didn't bother Corentin--humans invaded merfolk's territory all the time, and they shouldn't dish it out if they couldn't take it, but being walked in on by the angry owner of the place would put a bit of a damper on family fun time, and things were tenuous enough between all of them at the moment. He wasn't willing to get his hopes up just yet about Claude enjoying this. It was often difficult to remember being that age, but when he tried, he had to grudgingly admit that he would have been every bit as surly and uncompromising with his own father under the circumstances.
Still. If this didn't draw Claude out of his shell, what would? Corentin was certain his son couldn't have been inside a human house before, and even if he'd probably refuse to show it, Claude would have to be impressed by the radio and the various electronic devices. With any of the other merfolk they knew, Corentin's expertise with the humans' playthings would have been a mark of shame, not a badge of pride. But with Nineveh and Claude, he could admit to it without fear of repercussion. They wouldn't tell.
He hauled himself up on shore and shook himself free of water, smoothly slipping into human form and signaling to the others to stay back in the water while he investigated to make sure the coast was clear. Only when he had explored the living room and rattled a few things on the shelves to make sure there was nobody in the house to bother them, he poked his head back out the door and waved to them to come inside.
