It seems all of these words
Who: Karine and Whisper
Where: Whisper's home
When: 3:00 a.m.
What: A strange homecoming that isn't all hugs and kisses when it's two sleepy vampires.
Tabloids were the bane of her existence. Or at least they were right then because they were hitting a little too close to the truth. Seeing pictures of her and Kikuya from the model's birthday party in Las Vegas would have been fine, but seeing them flashing out at her from the covers of those excuses of magazines? Something else entirely. The vampire was not regretting what she had done by any means - they had both enjoyed themselves and not made any sort of big deal over it during their spa date or flight home - but she was ready to find the editor of the tabloids in question and wring their neck. First person who tried flashing a camera in her face was going to find it shoved down their throat and then she would go and present them to Kikuya, let her use the blood. It would be good to finally be home and just relax.
But there was a strange car in the driveway. That was enough to give Whisper pause but then a little flicker of hope whelmed up and for the first time in weeks she reached out tentatively along the connection she shared with all other Kilcrowen, hoping... and there! Whisper's dark eyes lit up and she shoved the front door open, letting it slam shut behind her. "Karine!" she shouted happily, forgetting all about anything that was wrong with the day because her sire had found her. Karine was there, she had heard a mumble of her sleeping thoughts and saw her evidenced in how clean everything was. More, when she started up the stairs she could smell her perfume lingering on the air and... wait. Whisper stopped, her smile fading as she scented a few other things upon reaching the landing. it was familiar as well; blood. Blood she had tasted not long ago at all. Siren's blood.
Whisper shook herself and hurried to her room, finding the door ajar as it never was when she slept. The room was dark but her eyes cut through the dim to the bed. There were the golden curls she had missed so much, spilled across the pillow and tangled up with strands of brunette. A small woman was curled up in Karine's arms, her chest falling evenly in the rhythm of breathing. Adelle. Karine had gotten the siren that Whisper had lured back and tasted first. So what if Whisper had just had a rather fun night with a gorgeous model she had known for years? "Karine," Whisper hissed, only just keeping herself from lunging across the room and shaking both of them awake. She had been so happy to know that Karine had found her but returning to find her wrapped up with someone else in her bed changed that. This was not what she had envisioned at all.
Karine was sound asleep, tired after her day and even more so after her romp with Adelle, when something stirred in her mind. The brush of a connection she'd been waiting for and her eyes fluttered open. Smiling a little she rubbed her nose against the back of Adelle's head. Right until she heard the hiss of Whisper's voice. Oh of course she couldn't come home when Karine was just cleaning or behaving herself. Oh no it had to be when she was cuddled up in bed with someone else. Had Whisper ever come on her in this situation? Probably not seeing as how it only happened when the other vampire was temporarily missing from her life or when they both were playing with someone. Which Adelle definitely had the potential to be.
Carefully, the blonde vampire unwound her arms from Adelle and pulled the blankets up around her small form before slipping out of the bed and walking to Whisper, appraising her with a single glance. She managed to step past her and into the hall, reaching back to grasp her wrist and pull her along before closing the door. Wouldn't do to wake the siren up when she seemed to need the sleep. "I was wondering where you'd gone off to. I finally find you and you're not even here." She kept her hold on her wrist, though it became looser. She was very glad to see her, glad wasn't even a strong enough description. "Though you do have excellent taste even when I'm gone, that girl's an ace."
Whisper allowed herself to be pulled and her expression was sullen when they were in the hall and Karine remarked on her taste. Of course it was superb, Whisper settled for nothing less. And she had felt it in the girl and now seen it evidenced - she wanted to be bitten and all of that. Because Karine did not have the ability to transfer a wanton need for attention to someone else, did not have it herself. Before she said anything else she scanned Karine's body. She had hoped for a moment that maybe they had just fallen asleep together but no. Karine was not wearing anything and she usually slept in at least a night robe. So there had been something between the two. Shouldn't be surprised since she bit her, that blood is potent. At least she had had the restraint to send her away. Not that she was sure she could have done it a second time.
"You finally find me and I return to find you sleeping with a siren." Whisper's voice was quiet and chilled. "In my bed."
Arching a brow, Karine tsked. "Like you wouldn't have done the same if you'd have had the chance. I know you bit her, Whisper, and I know you've spent this time doing what you always have. Except there's no one around. What happened to that witch you ran off with?" Karine had rather been looking forward to strangling him and leaving the body for the police to find. No one ever suspected a vampire if there wasn't a puncture mark on the body and the blood was all preserved.
"I killed his familiar and gave him to Kikuya because he was starting to bore me," Whisper shrugged. It was true. Jerold had lost his interest far quicker than she had thought he would and had not even had an acceptable blood type to add any reason to keep him around. Now had he been a B then it would have been a different story, but that was neither here or now. Here and now involved a siren sleeping in her bed with Karine, her sire, standing in front of her with no clothes on and admitting that she had done it. She had slept with the siren. And Whisper was... jealous, I'm jealous. And far too tired to just deal with this right now. She had had a very busy past day and a half and collapsing in her bed was high on her list of things to do. Now tomorrow when she was able to pull her thoughts together more... that would be a different story. "Just tell me how this happened. Briefly. I'm tired."
Oh, so she had given him away to one of her models. Karine knew the name, Whisper'd worked with the woman before and liked to point out how good she was. One of her favorite models and wasn't that a fun little fact to know that she too was in Scarlet Oak. Perhaps Karine would finally have the chance to meet her. Wouldn't that be delightful. "You're tired? You just woke me up and I had quite the day from cleaning up the mess you'd made while you were on your own. We need to find you something better to do when you're upset and lonely, love," Karine reached out to touch Whisper's face, stroking her cheek gently. It felt so nice to have her there again. Even the scent of her perfume was the same, if the circles under her eyes were a little darker and her hair a little more messed than it should've been. "But can't we talk in the morning? I'm tired, you're tired and we'll both be fresher then." With the possibility of a light breakfast in bed. If only Whisper could read her mind clearly then she'd see that this had all started because she wanted to secure the little siren for them, for her really...though she had enjoyed Adelle's company quite throughly. The girl was a delight.
The attention in Karine's touch was almost enough for Whisper to give in. If not for the fact that she had just been with Kikuya not twenty-four hours ago she would have given in easily and just gone to bed. But, tired or not, she had received quite a fix of attention and could stand her ground for a little longer. Especially when she was picking up occasional thoughts from Karine's mind about her, which were nice, followed by how Adelle made made this noise and it had been oh-so nice. "No, Karine," she said firmly, reaching up to take Karine's hand down, though she did twine their fingers together. That little bit she could not resist because she had missed her sire quite a bit and hearing her voice outside of her head was a refreshing change. "I want to know how you got that particular siren into bed. Because I had her in this house not two days ago and I was toying with a little plan." Which actually, Karine might have made possible. If that were the case Whisper would be delighted. After she was done being angry and jealous. Just because she slept with other people did not mean that she had to accept that Karine might do the same.
"Fine." Karine sighed, squeezing Whisper's hand gently. At least she wasn't going to stop touching her and the little flickers of thought coming through the mindnet told that she was, like she'd expected at first, jealous more than anything else. That histrionic streak that demanded she be the center of attention didn't like coming home and finding that she wasn't. "You're the center of my world, you know that," Karine threw it out casually, but the meaning was there. "And all I did was play with what you'd already brought into the home. She came looking for something and I could just... tell. Then I saw the band-aids and got her talking and decided that, well, I wanted to see if she tasted good and she's pretty and there was just something about her I wanted. But." Karine brought Whisper's hand to her mouth, kissing the back. "I really wanted to secure her, let her know she could be herself around me... and you. How long has it been since we had a siren to play with? And that one only lasted a day... Adelle is so much fun."
Whisper was not sure what she had expected, but it was not that. Definitely not the tone of affection in Karine's voice, though it was hard to be mad after she said that Whisper was the center of the world and kissed her hand... "So she's fun?" She was going to mad. Whisper kept promising herself that once she slept and had something to eat she would be raging mad, but it was hard to be right then. Especially when she felt herself getting a little excited at the prospect of Adelle coming back again. Or even just being there when she woke up. A nice, warm body with a pulse and blood that had tasted quite good. Maybe the siren had a sort of death wish after all. It wouldn't be the first time one of them was a little off their rocker.
Eyes glittering, Karine showed her fangs in a full smile. "Oh yes, she's a lot of fun. I haven't enjoyed anyone who isn't you so much ever." The part where the girl'd never been with a woman before she left out, thinking that maybe Whisper wouldn't like knowing that so much. Might just flare up the jealousy again and it seemed like she was managing to get that under control. "And she tastes divine. Such a young siren who doesn't know what she wants from the world... could be fun in a lot of ways. And I'd like to see what happens with her, make sure she realizes there isn't anything wrong with killing for immortality." Because to her, a vampire, of course there wasn't.
A flare of jealousy sprung up. "You like her," Whisper accused, eyes narrowing.
Karine blinked and then shrugged. "Yes, a little," she admitted, seeing no reason to lie. Whisper might be able to pick out the lie and then it would take forever to convince her. "But I really would rather share her with you... you'll like her too. I'm sure you already think she's pleasant or you'd not have taken a bite. Don't be so angry and suspicious, Whisper." Enough of this. The blonde reached out, tugging Whisper up against her and leaning in for a kiss. It had bee far, far too long since this had happened. She was always just a little surprised to realize how much she had missed the vampire she had sired all those years ago. Whisper was as much a part of her as her body and she hated when they'd been apart. "Enough of this fighting and bickering... we can both have her if she's not scared off and there's no need to argue. Come to bed and sleep on it, we'll talk more in the morning."
Fight though she might against it, Whisper agreed with Karine and the kiss that she gave had a lot to do with it. It reminded her of how much she had been longing for the blonde, Kikuya or not, and she was truly glad to have her in the house. "In the morning," she reminded Karine before stepping into the room, hesitating upon realizing again that Adelle was sleeping there. "Really..."
Rolling her eyes, Karine stepped up behind Whisper and undid her dress, letting it fall to the floor as she also removed her necklace and earrings. "I'll sleep in the middle." She really wanted to be there anyhow, Whisper on one side and Adelle on the other. It would be nice to wake up to either, or hopefully both, there. "I'm too tired to keep this up, my eyes are hardly staying open, love." Placing a kiss on Whisper's shoulder, Karine slid back into bed and stroked Adelle's hair lightly when she stirred, murmuring soothingly while she waited for Whisper. This was all going to seem a lot different in the morning when the other vampire was not as tired as she was. She had seen Whisper's temper in action more than once. But never when she was sleepy. She was a lot nicer and even-tempered when she was tired. "Come on, love, I want to go back to sleep."
Whisper saw Karine smoothe Adelle's hair and it didn't sit well with her... though she had to admit, Adelle did look nice lying there. A lot better than the last time when she had seen her all afraid and running away with a broken heel. Karine seemed to have a better handle on how to go about these things. Maybe I should just leave it up to her in the future. Though I'm not letting this go. Have to remember that I'm mad about this. It could be hard to remember when she was mad with Karine because the other vampire knew all of the right things to do and say to get her calmed down. Mostly. There were some exceptions to the rule. This might well be one of them. Whisper could not be sure if it was or was not until she actually assessed it while in possession of all her wits. "Good night, Karine," she said after pulling on a nightgown and slipping into the bed next to the blonde, kissing her lightly before closing her eyes. Despite the new smell and the sound of a heartbeat and blood rushing, Whisper fell asleep easily.
It had, after all, been an exciting few days.
Karine noted to herself that she needed to wake up early and hide anything she didn't want broken. If Whisper's temper did get out of hand then she didn't want her going after things they couldn't just replace. Shaking her head, she let her eyes fall closed and went back to sleep.
