Unwanted Tag-Alongs
Who: Day, Christian, and Hayden
Where: The car ride home and the Danui house
When: Early evening
Day made his way back to his car, patting his pockets to find where he'd left his glasses. He even had them halfway on when, as the world jumped into focus, he spotted not one person waiting against the pale blue sports car, but two. Hurriedly, he tucked the glasses away again, squinting until he made out Hayden.
Oh, joy.
Putting on a smile once more, he waved. "Hello! Am I right in guessing I'm giving you a ride home, as well?"
"Well... actually... you're giving her a ride to our house." Christian said, swallowing a little and putting on his best pouty face. "Please?" he said, sounding more than a little hopeful. He doubted that Day would say no, especially when Hayden was right there. Mostly the reason he'd had her come to the car with him in the first place.
Hayden grinned and waved at Day when he approached. "I promise not to misbehave," Hayden told him, after Christian had asked Day to give her a ride to their house. "And my mom would be able to pick me up at your house, so you wouldn't have to take me home afterward, or anything."
Well, of course he couldn't say no, no matter how he felt about it. "It's no problem, if you don't mind cramming into the back." The Mustang did have a back seat, but it was a bit cramped, since the car was only a two-door. Their father's way to discourage them to drive a lot of friends around, Day had always guessed, in the hopes that if there was an accident a minimum of people would be involved. He pulled his keys from a pocket and clicked the lock open with a button and a beep. "Hop on in."
Christian grinned and reached for Hayden's hand, pulling her around to the opposite side. He pulled the door open and climbed in the back himself, freeing up the front seat for her because, well it was the nice thing to do. Besides, he wasn't exactly tall so it didn't bother him to be a little crunched in the back seat.
She really didn't mind cramming in the back seat. She was a small girl as it was, so she knew it wouldn't be terribly uncomfortable. But Christian was beating her to it, so that she could have the front seat, and she smiled in appreciation, resisting the urge to go 'awww'. Because it was sweet of him. Hayden slipped into the front when Christian was settled, and she shut the door. "Thanks, Christian." She shifted her smile to Day. "Did you have fun today? I barely got to talk to you, you were always surrounded by people!"
"I had a wonderful time," Day answered-- lied, actually, but it was a good one-- as he settled in the driver's side and turned the engine on, immediately turning down the volume on the stereo so Hayden wouldn't have to hear Ben Folds Five at the volume he and Christian had been listening to on the way over. "I'm kind of surprised you and Chris lasted as long as you did." He cast his brother a smile in the rear view mirror, then pulled the car away from the curb.
Christian was surprised that he'd lasted as long as he had too. But that was just Christian. He wasn't a party kind of boy but it was a little easier when Hayden had his attention most of the time. "Yeah." he said simply. "Part of me is glad it's over though."
"I like pool parties," Hayden said simply, shrugged as she pushed some of her hair behind her ear. It was a bit damp still, but drying quickly. Of course. She liked pool parties when she wasn't swimming. But mingling and talking to people was always fun. Maybe she could try to convince Christian to go with her to Gabe Winter's party. "It's easy, when you've got someone fun to talk to."
"Does this mean I should expect to see my dear brother out and about more often this summer?" Day asked with a teasing smile that he was sure the could both see. As much as he would like that, he just wished it hadn't taken Hayden for it to happen. He still wasn't as pleased with this development as he could have been. Well, all right, he wasn't very pleased at all.
"I don't know about all that." Christian said. "One party doesn't mean I'm going to be running out to every single one I can find any time soon. I'm just saying that this one wasn't as bad as I thought it would be."
She shifted on the seat to look back at him with a grin. "We don't have to go to only parties. There's a lot we could do this summer. So yes," Hayden said, glancing at Day. "Summer is way too nice, and way too short, to spend it inside all the time. I think he'll definitely be out and about! I mean, if he wants to be," she added with another smile in Christian's direction.
Making a smug-sounding chuckle for Christian's benefit-- now he at least knew part of what it meant to date a fire elemental: they were generally social and liked to do things-- Day pulled a u-turn and headed back down the street towards their house. After all, they lived pretty much just around the corner from Charlotte. Or, you know, right down the street. "Exactly what I've been telling him every year," he told Hayden in an amused tone. "Good luck getting him to agree."
Christian looked down at his hands in his lap and back up at Hayden and then at Christian. "This is all a conspiracy isn't it?" he asked. "A way to get me out of the house during the summer. I should have known you two would band together."
"It's more that I like spending time with you, and I want to do as much of that as I can this summer," Hayden countered. "Before you know it, school will be starting again, then you're stuck inside practically all day. And then winter hits, and you're inside like, all day." She smiled at Christian. "Don't you want to do stuff this summer?" Specifically with her.
"Air and fire, little brother," Day reminded him sweetly. "Of course we'd band together." He let Christian answer the question as the Mustang pulled up at the Danui house, rolling up the driveway and cutting the engine.
"Some stuff." he shrugged. "I mean... there are some movies coming out I wanna see and... I wanna swim some... and... hang out and just... I dunno. I haven't really set anything completely in stone yet and... why?" he asked. "Do you... want to hang out with me this summer?"
Hayden blinked in surprise before she smiled. She thought she was being obvious about that, wasn't she? "Of course, I do. I wouldn't be talking about it if I didn't want to." Once the car stopped she unbuckled her seat belt and got out so that Christian could get out from the cramped back seat. "Thanks for the ride, Day. I like your car."
Day rolled his eyes at Christian's question. He wasn't that dense, so Day had to assume he was just insecure. He made no other comment, though, just climbed out of the car. "Thank you, Hayden. I'm pretty fond of it, myself." He petted the hood with a grin, then headed up the walk to open the front door for everyone.
He wasn't dense, just maybe disbelieving. Unsure of himself as always. Hayden wanted to spend time with him and that continued to be strange and confusing to the boy. Christian extracted himself from the backseat and shut the door behind himself. "My car is better." he teased, heading up to the door.
"Oh, definitely," Hayden agreed with an equally teasing smile. Once they were inside, she glanced around curiously. They definitely had money, it looked like. But then again, they lived in this particular part of town, so it wasn't surprising. Now that they were inside, she was hoping Christian would just lead her to the tv, or game console, whatever it was they were going to do. And hopefully Day wasn't planning on joining them.
Unfortunately for them, Day most certainly was. Leave the two of them alone when he could, ahem, be the responsible older brother and chaperone? Or, more appropriately, the nosy and over-protective older brother and keep an eye on things? "Do you two want anything to drink?" he asked, dropping his towel over the stair banister. "Or eat?"
He's totally not going to do this to me, is he? Christian thought, but he already knew the answer. "I'm alright." Christian said. "You want something Hayden? I can get it and we can go up to my room and watch a movie or something." he said. Of course his 'we' meant himself and Hayden, not Day, and the look on his face when he glanced at his brother clearly said as much. He doubted, however, that Day would listen unless he came outright and said something.
"Oh! No, I'm good. I drank and ate a lot at the party, so I'm okay," Hayden said, slipping her fingers into the pockets of her jean skirt with a shrug and a happy smile. "The movie sounds great though." And alone time with Christian, thank you very much!
Day was pretty obviously ignoring Christian's look. He wasn't even looking in Christian's direction. "All right, then. What do you two want to watch?"
Christian inwardly sighed. MOTHERFUCKER!!!! he yelled in his head, so loud that he was half sure even the thought could be heard. "I don't know. Hayden gets to pick. So..." he said, turning to face Hayden. "Come on, my room's upstairs." he said, taking her hand and heading in the direction of his bedroom.
Hayden took Christian's hand to follow him to his bedroom, mildly confused as she glanced at Day. She felt like she was missing something! But maybe she wasn't. "I would be up for watching anything. Maybe something funny?" She doubted two boys owned girly movies, after all.
"We've got plenty of comedy," Day said as he started climbing the stairs after them. They did, in fact, have more than a few chick flicks. Day rather liked them, if they were intelligent and not completely implausible or ridiculous. "There's a whole shelf in Chris's room and another in mine, if you want to look."
There was no getting out of him sticking around aside from turning around and begging him to leave them alone and Christian wasn't going to beg in front of Hayden and he wasn't going to put Day into a position like that either, so he bit back his annoyance. Reaching his bedroom door, he pulled it open to let Hayden walk inside and once she'd passed him, he glared at Day. He was already thinking he wanted to have a nice long chat with his brother. If he wasn't going to tell him what to do about Hayden, that didn't give him a right to watch over every visit.
Hayden walked into Christian's room, immediately looking around again. Because she was in Christian's room! Her heart was pounding, in a really good way. And... it would be totally perfect without the big brother there with them. It wasn't like she was planning on stripping and seducing Christian or anything. "I like your room," Hayden told Chris. She walked over to the shelf of movies and began to search for something, her gaze glancing toward Day before she realized he was probably sticking around.
This time unable to miss the glare, Day raised his brows at his brother as if he didn't understand why he was so irritated. This was his house, too, after all, so he could go where he liked-- and Hayden was his friend, too, so surely he could visit with her when she was here. He leaned comfortably on the door frame and waited for Hayden to pick a movie.
Like he really didn't know?! Yeah right. Christian was far smarter than that. He knew that Day was being a nosy pain in his back end, but he couldn't really say much about it. Letting out a brief sigh, he kicked off his shoes and dropped down on the bed, glancing over at the television and then back up at Hayden. "Thanks." he said, giving her a little smile. She liked his room! Awesome. It'd be a little more awesome if Day wasn't playing guardian.
Hayden grinned and went back to studying his movies. "Oh! I love this movie." She pulled out The Wedding Singer and twirled around toward Day and Christian. "Is this okay?" It was funny, and boyish but also had romance in it. Which was awesome. She smiled at Day. "Are you going to stay and watch with us?" She hoped not, but she didn't want to be rude and say so.
"I thought I might, yes," Day said, looking between them innocently. "That's a fun movie and Chris doesn't often like to have mutual friends over." Even if Christian and Hayden weren't exactly friends. And even given Christian didn't like to have friends over usually. "Is that a problem?"
Yes! Christian cried internally. The word never left his lips though. Instead what he said seemed to have the tone of 'get the hell out' but came out with the words. "I suppose it's alright." Maybe he'd get the hint and leave or... something. Hopefully.
"I don't mind," Hayden said, after Christian answered. Though it was pretty clear that Christian wasn't very happy with it. "If don't have anything else to do," she added with a smile before handing the movie to Christian. "I can't imagine it would be very exciting, watching a movie with us lowly soon to be juniors." Didn't he have a blog to write or something?
Inwardly, Day rolled his eyes. If neither of them had the guts to tell him to go away, they'd just have to deal with his presence. He donned an injured expression. "Christian happens to be one of my closest friends, and I happen to like you quite a bit, too. Are you suggesting I ought to have some kind of problem associating with people younger than I am?"
Christian took the movie from Hayden and popped it into the player then sat himself down on the bed, reaching out and taking Hayden's hand and pulling her down beside him before she got much of a chance to argue. He was going to have that much if Day had to stick around. He wanted to be sure that his brother didn't plop himself right on down between them. To make sure that it wouldn't happen anyway, he laced his fingers through Hayden's. Look at him, getting all brave and not waiting for her to make the movies. He couldn't help but inwardly feel just a bit smug.
"Not suggesting that at all," Hayden remarked, smiling when Christian took her hand. She say down next to him, that giddy girlish excitement flowing through her when their fingers entwined. She liked that he was willing to hold her hand on his own. "I just know what a busy guy you are most of the time... but if you want to watch the movie with us, that's cool!" Hayden snuggled a bit closer to Christian, since she was of the same mind that Day might try to sit between them.
Day wasn't that stupid. He wasn't going to sit between the two of them. Instead, he pulled over Christian's desk chair and pulled both feet up onto that, sitting cross-legged. "Oh yes. Terribly, terribly busy. When school's out and friends are here. Right." He smirked at them both, then settled in to movie-watch. And hopefully keep them from necking.
Christian watched the movie for a quite sometime, fingers staying twined through hers, squeezing them just slightly ever once in a while, letting his thumb brush across her skin. Occasionally he'd glance up to look at his brother, hoping he'd get the picture and leave, but no luck. He still remained perched in his chair. Why oh why can't I send you telepathic messages? he thought to himself.
Hayden was comfortable where she was, and didn't really mind Day being there. At first. Eventually she placed her head on Christian's shoulders, happy with the tiny hand squeezes he kept giving her. She really wanted to kiss him, but she was reluctant, with Day sitting right there. Though maybe if she started kissing his brother, Day might get the hint and leave. Or get grossed out and leave. Maybe after the movie was over, Day would take off and leave them alone.
Day was not only not telepathic, he was actually enjoying himself. It wasn't often he got to play "irritating big brother" and get in Christian's way romantically, and he found it rather amusing. He didn't muffle himself when he laughed at the movie, he made comments now and then about what was going on in it, and he pretended not to notice how snuggly Hayden was getting.
Christian didn't mind the snuggling at all. In fact, he kind of enjoyed it and after a while, tilted his head to rest it against Hayden's. He wanted to kiss her just as much as she wanted to kiss him, but there was the little fact that Day was right there. The last thing he wanted was to look like a total dork in front of Day. Yeah, not happening. He supposed it wasn't that bad that his brother was perched in his room. Hayden wouldn't be able to make him feel like a fumbling idiot if she couldn't kiss him or touch him or make him feel hot all over. But at the same time, that was exactly the reason that he wanted Day to leave.
She smiled a bit when she felt him rest against her. And he smelled really nice! Like sun... if sun had a smell. Oh well, it did now. She wanted to turn her face and nuzzle him a bit, but she couldn't do that either. Maybe next time, movie time could be at her house. Or when Day was out with his many other friends. Somehow she doubted he was sticking around because they were friends. He was sticking around to play big brother. Because she remembered Christian saying that Day wouldn't think it was a good idea, fire and water. But Hayden was determined to prove him wrong. After awhile, she pulled back a bit from Christian. "Can I use your bathroom?" she asked with a small smile.
"Yeah, of course you can." Christian said, nodding just a little. He gave Hayden brief directions to the bathroom and then looked over at his brother once he was sure Hayden was gone. "You're just going to sit there and watch me like a hawk the whole time she's here aren't you?"
"I am watching the movie," Day protested. If he happened to have half his attention on his brother and Hayden, it wasn't obvious. "It isn't as if either of you complained about my being here. You both said it was fine, didn't you?" He arched a brow at Christian pointedly.
"Because I wasn't going to be rude to you in front of her..." Christian said, shaking his head. "You really just want to watch the movie and aren't sitting in here for any other reason than that?" he asked, eying his brother.
"Do I ever do anything for just one reason?" Day asked, rolling his eyes at his brother. "Of course not. Sitting here knowing you two are cuddling is actually a little irritating, but it's better than sitting in my room knowing you're making out or more on the other side of my wall. I'll probably be able to hear you, you know. Not only you, but the movie, too. So I might as well be here."
"So you're just going to sit there so I can't make out with her?!" Christian practically hissed. "I don't do that to you when your girlfriends would come over." Not that it really mattered. Christian knew that most of the girls Day brought over just hung around or watched movies. He never had to really worry about hearing his brother doing unmentionable things when girls were over. "That's so not fair." Christian pouted.
"Then I guess next time you need to tell me to leave, don't you?" Day shrugged. "Or go someplace where I won't be forced to listen to every move you two make on this bed, all evening." He settled back in his chair and looked back at the TV, even though they'd paused it for Hayden.
"You suck." he cried out, letting his head thunk against the wall. "You act like I'm going to screw her or something. I'm not. You won't be hearing anything unless you've got your ear pressed to the wall."
"Christian," Day sighed. "Unless I have my music turned up loud? I hear you roll over in here. So yes, I will probably hear it. I have told you twice now what you have to do, even if I don't really want to do it. It's not my fault you aren't listening to me."
"Well then turn your music up loud and leave me alone." he sighed. "I'd like to be able to kiss my girlfriend... friend... whatever the hell she is without you sitting there watching me do it." Christian immediately felt bad for what he'd just said and he looked down at his hands. "I'm sorry... that was rude and I'm... sorry, don't be mad at me..."
"I'm not mad at you. I think I'm in a bad mood, though." He got up, suddenly sick of the both of them. Of everything even remotely romantic. Of everything even remotely difficult. Maybe he'd go play video games or something. "Enjoy the movie. If you even watch any more of it." Now that was probably rude.
Christian sighed and watched him go, feeling pretty shitty about saying anything at all. "You should have kept your big mouth shut." he muttered to himself. "Lot of good that did. Now he's all aggravated and what good did it do?"
Hayden washed her hands and stepped out of the bathroom as Day was coming down the hall. "Hey! Taking a break too?" she asked with a smile. That would give her at least a couple seconds alone with Christian, which was better than nothing.
Lovely. Day put on a wry smile instead of the more irritated face he wanted to wear. "No," he said with a shrug. "My dear brother finally said what I'm sure you both are thinking. So I am making myself scarce. Do try to watch some of the rest of the movie, at least."
Hayden's smiled faded a touch. "Oh." She didn't know what he meant by watching 'some' of the rest of the movie. Though she could take a guess. Her cheeks flushed and she fumbled for a minute. "It's almost over anyway, Day, I don't mind if you watch the rest with us."
"But Christian does, and I have to live with him, so off I go." Day shrugged again, and started back down the hall, towards the stairs. "I'll be downstairs, if either of you need me." Which he doubted would happen.
"Okay." Hayden frowned and watched him go. She returned to Christian's room to see him looking miserable. "What happened? You two didn't fight did you?" If they did, it was probably because of her, and that... didn't make her feel good.
"No." Christian sighed, leaning back against the wall again. "I asked him if he was just sitting in here because of the movie or because he wanted to spy on me and things just got aggravating." he muttered. "He said if I wanted him to leave I had to ask him to leave so... I did..." Only now he felt really bad about the whole thing.
"Well, if he's here, maybe it's more that he wanted to keep an eye on you more than anything. Or, keep an eye on me," she said, moving to sit back down next to him. "It's not like we would have been doing anything bad... and I wouldn't be... doing anything knowing he was in the same house, you know?" She just wanted to kiss him is all. "I'm sorry if you guys had an argument."
"That's what I told him." Christian sighed. "It's not like I'm going to just... do that while he's here. What if he walked in? I'd just... die. What if he heard me or heard you." Great now he'd never have sex for fear of someone hearing it or walking in on top of his fears of being horrible at it to begin with. Virginity for eternity seemed to be the route Christian was heading.
Despite herself, Hayden flushed a bit at the mention of sex. Even though he didn't really say sex, she could read between the lines. "I'm not... I mean... we wouldn't... we just started hanging out," Hayden pointed out, wondering if Day thought she would really try to have sex with his brother already. "I would never do that, I mean... so soon. And... with him here."
"That was my entire point." Christian agreed. "I mean... I know you and all and I... I mean... it's not like I wouldn't... ever... with you... I just... wouldn't... right now." Stammer much you idiot. "Not while he's here... not..." Ever if you keep going like you're going. "I'm sorry." he said softly.
"You don't have to apologize," Hayden promised. "I mean, if that were to happen, it wouldn't be for a really, really long time. I just... I like spending time with you now. I want to get to know you and everything first. I know Day doesn't like it. I mean, maybe he likes me, but he doesn't like me with you because of the whole elemental thing, but I'm willing to prove him wrong if you are."
She liked him enough to do that? Christian couldn't quite fathom that possibility. Someone liking him enough to want to actually spend time with him even though signs pointed to it being a horrible mistake. Hayden didn't seem to mind though and that made Christian feel all sorts of awesome inside. "Thanks." he said, nodding just a bit. "I don't see waht the harm is in trying... I mean... what's the worst that could happen?" Besides her breaking his heart or hating him, or never talking to him again, or being in it for a joke or... stop!.
"The worst that could happen is, we hang out a lot, and then decide it's not working? And then we stay friends," Hayden said with a small shrug before she smiled and took his hand. "But the best thing that could happen is that we hang out a lot, and then decide it's really awesome, and we continue to do it. And I like that path a lot better." She leaned over to place a kiss on his cheek. "I really like you, and I promise I'll try not to ruin everything."
Christian's cheek went a little hot beneath her lips and once she pulled away, he nodded. "Yeah." he agreed. "I'll try not to ruin everything either." Even though he knew he ruined a lot of things, or at least felt that he did. "So... does that mean that we're like... dating or just... hanging out or...?" He couldn't say for sure what they were doing. He'd never really had a girlfriend before and he wasn't even sure how it would feel to have one. Had Hayden been his girlfriend this whole time and he just not realized it? Oh, god.
She grinned and laced her fingers through his. "Do you want to date me? I don't want you to, if you don't really want to, but I think... I mean, I know I would like to date you."
She wanted to date him? The world around Christian just seemed to get weirder and weirder. He'd spent so much time thinking that he was barely making friends with a couple of people and yet, here was this girl that wanted to date him. It was odd and confusing and totally new and different to him. He felt his face go hot when she asked him that question and let her fingers twine through his. "I... Yeah. I mean... if... I mean yeah I do... wanna be with you... date... you..." he said softly, glancing down at their fingers and after a moment back up at her. "I just... I don't want this to end badly." he said. "You gotta promise that we're not going to hate each other if this... stops..."
She looked at him before glancing down at their fingers when he did. He wanted to date her! Like, be her boyfriend and everything. She wanted to smile and dance around and be giddy about it. Maybe later in the privacy of her bedroom. But for now, Hayden managed to focus. "I don't want it to end badly either," she said. "And I think... I think we're predisposed to think it will because of our elements." Thanks, Day! "But I don't really believe that it'll be a disaster. I like you, and you like me, and that should be good enough. I promise that I won't hate you if it stops." She couldn't imagine any scenario but him cheating on her that would make her hate him, and she highly doubted that would ever happen.
Christian nodded a little. "I hope it's not going to be a disaster." he said softly. Of course he was already playing out scenarios in his head about ways that things could go wrong. It was surprising how vivid his imagination could be when it got started up. He just hoped that if it did turn into a mess that they wouldn't lose a friendship over it in the process. "Guess we'll just have to see what happens."
"That sounds like a plan to me," Hayden agreed. She smiled and squeezed his hand. "Do you want to finish the movie?" Or totally prove Day right and make out? Though she didn't say that, even if she wanted too. She had a feeling he would blush and stammer and she didn't want to embarrass him.
"Sure." he said, reaching over to snag the remote and unpause the movie. He settled himself back on the bed again and let her return to her original position beside him before lacing his fingers through hers again. Christian sat there for a moment, contemplating. Wondering if he should kiss her, knowing that he wanted to, but being a bit afraid of when he should do it. Was there a right time? Should he ask her first? Would he look dumb if he asked her first? So many questions rushing through his brain it nearly gave him a headache. He settled for leaning a little closer to her, letting their shoulders brush against each other.
Hayden didn't mind it when he moved closer. She leaned over against him, feeling more at ease now that she didn't have to worry about Day eyeballing them. She wondered if he would kiss her. Or if he would be too shy to do it. Then she wondered if she would kiss him. Or if that would embarrass him. Or maybe she ought to stop thinking about things and just do them instead. Because what if he was thinking the same thing, and they were both pondering the whole kissing thing when they could just be doing it? Hayden lifted her head from his shoulder to place another kiss against his cheek. If he looked at her, then she could kiss him properly this time.
Again that warm sensation flooded through his cheek when her lips pressed against it. He swallowed and then did something brave and turned to catch her lips with his before she could pull them too far away. Let that have been okay... he thought to himself as he slowly pulled back from her mouth, eyes searching out hers, almost pleading for some sort of sign for whether or not he should have done what he did. Christian was silent as he tried to read her face, read her eyes for what she was thinking. Why couldn't I have just not been an elemental?
She was surprised when he kissed her, but not unpleasantly so. And it was definitely okay. Hayden stared at him before smiling and leaning in to kiss him again. Softly, and not too eagerly, because she didn't want to freak him out.
In the brief half-second that it took for her to look at him just before she kissed him again, Christian thought he might die. His brain went through a slew of spontaneous and creative insults about how he shouldn't have kissed her. How she was probably thinking he was insane for doing so at this very moment and then her lips were against his and he couldn't let his thoughts cloud up his head any longer. The thoughts disappeared and everything around him seemed to slow down, catching the tempo of Hayden's kiss. A tiny flicker of a smile came through across his lips, but it vanished as quickly as it had appeared. He was far too interested in kissing her to continue thinking much about it.
Insanity was the last thing on Hayden's mind. This was all she had wanted to do since he showed up at the pool party. And now that Day had disappeared, she could. She brought a hand up to his cheek, holding it lightly as she kissed him. She liked it just as much as she had the first kiss at her house. She kept herself from rushing into it, and kept it fairly simple for the moment. She didn't need to jump him, especially with Day still wandering around somewhere.
Christian's body was doing a good job of getting hot all over. It was almost like that feeling where you ate something way too hot and you needed some water but there wasn't any around, only all over his entire body. He finally pulled back after a long moment, letting his eyes open again to catch hers. "I really hope I'm good at that." he said, the words coming out even though he'd wanted them to stay in his brain.
Hayden's eyes opened when he pulled back and she smiled a bit breathlessly and nodded, her fingertips brushing over his jawline. "I think you're really good at it," she told him. "Otherwise I don't think I would want to keep doing it."
Surprisingly, that didn't make Christian blush. It just made him feel a little smug which was definitely a different feeling for him. He actually accomplished something and felt he could acknowledge it. He couldn't argue with her saying she liked kissing him because people really wouldn't kiss people that couldn't kiss well. It just didn't work out. So obviously he was doing something right. He smiled a little at her and reached up to brush her hair over her shoulder. "I think you're really good at it too."
Hayden grinned. "Thanks. I certainly hope so. I had been wanting to kiss you all day," she admitted. "I didn't think we'd ever be alone for it to actually happen though." And she was really happy that it had. Hopefully he would get comfortable enough with her, and with kissing, that he wouldn't mind doing it in public.
"You have?" Christian asked, finding that part a little bit harder to believe. "All day? Really?"
