After all they shared, he turned away from her to go
Who: Fina and Roxy
Where: Fina's apartment
What: Comfort... it's been a shitty day.
When: Late evening
As soon as he'd left, she collapsed on the floor. In her heart, she knew he would come back. He'd said he loved her. Out loud. And, while she'd known this since he'd come into town, hearing those words meant so much to her. But he was still gone. In her mind, when they finally said those words to each other, they'd likely spend the day in bed, holding each other, probably naked, but together. Not with him out the door cause some fucking demon caused a clusterfuck in his brain. Fina hated demons. A lot.
She sat there, tears running down her cheeks and waited to see if maybe, just maybe he'd come back. Like how she had waited all those months ago in LA, wishing he'd come back. When she was sure he wasn't coming, she grabbed her cell and crawled her way over to the couch. The pillow still smelt like him. She sent a short text to Roxy, one she hoped the other girl would understand and answer.
"He's gone"
"The hell is that noise?" Katherine looked up from her computer, hearing the sound of something vibrate obnoxiously against the nightstand.
"Rox, your cellphone's going off." Audrey informed their older sister, who was sitting on her bed, iPod plugging into her brain - full volume, mind you - and busied herself with making a small nest out of all the stones Charlene had given to her. Yes, she was making a nest.... on her bed. She was completely oblivious to her sisters calling out to her or even the fact her cellphone had vibrated, but it wasn't until Audrey flung a pillow at the girl that she snapped back to reality.
"OH MY FREAKING GOD! THE FUCK WAS THAT FOR?! YOU RUINED MY NEST!" Roxy ripped her earbuds out, fuming at her little siblings.
"Maybe you shouldn't have your cellphone sound like a jackrabbit and we wouldn't be pestering you!" Audrey stuck her tongue out at Roxy before going back to her book, rolling her eyes.
Blinking, Roxy, eyed her cellphone, noticing that it had one new text message on it. Intrigued, she reached out for her phone and flung it open to see who it was from. "Oh, it's just Fi, she-" And that's when her jaw dropped. If she was able to defy physics, it probably would have crashed through the floor and into the kitchen below. Instead, she quickly shot a message back: "WHAT?!?!!?!? FOR REALZ?!"
She knew exactly what was going on, and before Fina could reply, Roxy was already out of her room and preparing to head on out. It didn't matter if this was a false alarm - it was her best friend, and there was nothing false about that.
Wiping at her eyes, she grabbed her phone the second it vibrated and looked at it, knowing in her heart it would be Roxy. That didn't stop her from hoping. Then again, Rigby wasn't big on using his phone. She bit her lip and sent one back. "Yeah. Can you come over?" There was some major explaining on her part and she didn't think he would mind if she told him everything. The last thing she wanted was for her best friend to hate the man she loved. God, she loved him. That was so weird, knowing they'd said it to each other. Finally. But more so that he wasn't there.
She curled up on her side, pulling the pillow close. There were a few things in the apartment that smelt like him. Today had been absolute shit, with the one bright spot of her lunch with Chase. K-lee had marked her body with her magic and she was exhausted. And the one person she really wanted to be with was gone.
Roxy didn't check her cellphone at first, seeing that she was busy gathering a variety of things. First she quickly filled a small duffel back with toiletries, knowing full well that she was not coming back home that night. Even if Fina didn't let her stay in the house, then she was camping on outside. Then it was to the living room to grab a handful of DVDs, then to the kitchen to steal half of the goodies in the cupboards - chips and dip, popcorn, chocolate, pretzels, gummy bears, and more. With her arms completely full, she shouted out to one of her siblings staring at her, saying she wasn't going to be back until morning. After shoving everything into her Corvette, she flipped the cell open and texted back: "Girl, I'm ten steps ahead of you. Do you need anything while I'm on the road?" "Aside from the prick, of course..." Roxy rolled her eyes while mumbling. At the very least she could pick up some tissue or even a bottle of booze if that's what her friend needed.
It was just like Roxy to already be on her way when she needed her. That's what best friends were for. Fina smiled at little. "I don't really know." Her mind was so conflicted. She wanted to scream, to cry, maybe even light something on fire. She pushed herself into a sitting position and looked around the apartment. It felt so empty without him there. It had been hard, getting him to hold on to a key of his own. And she knew that was because of his nature, but she had gotten more than used to having him there with her. How he cooked her dinner sometimes when she worked late. How they had gotten distracted on the couch watching Star Wars. How he held her all night, and she woke up wrapped in his arms. Knowing he wasn't there hurt, even if she knew he was coming back.
"That's totally code for milkshakes..." Well, it was now. Gave Roxy an excuse to pick up some ice cream and milk at a Seven-Eleven on the way over. After texting her back informing her she'd be there in ten minutes flat, Roxy slipped into the Corvette and peeled on out of the drive way and sped on off. She was at said Seven-Eleven in two minutes, running in quickly to grab five different flavors of ice cream along with a gallon of milk, screamed at the cashier for even bothering to count out her change, then went back to the car. It actually took less than ten minutes to reach Fina's place, but with balancing all the crap in hand it probably topped off at ten minutes. Dumping everything to ground upon reaching her door, Roxy gave it a swift knock, knowing full well her friend was going to need a massive hug instead of tubs of ice cream toppling onto her.
It didn't feel quite like home without him. Fina heard something on the other side of the door and frowned. She was half way there when there was a knock and she opened it to find her best friend. It was clear she'd been crying. The welts were still visible on her neck and there were marks on her hands from K-lee's magic. Truthfully, the whole day made her feel like shit but having Roxy there helped a little. Instantly, she wrapped her arms around the were and tried very hard not to cry. "He's gone," she whispered softly.
Pulling Fina into a tight hug, Roxy rubbed her back while swaying back and forth. "It's ok, Fi, let it all out. I'm not going to raise hell if your mascara is like, running or something. I'm here for you and not leaving until you're better, ok? Even if you kick me out, I'm going to pitch up a tent in the front of the complex... and I don't even know how to pitch a tent!" She smiled softly, but knew no matter how much she joked it wasn't going to make anything better. What Fina wanted wasn't DVDs or milkshakes or junk food or pillows - she just wanted Rigby. It was like how miserable Roxy was for several days when Charlene was in the hospital. Just sucked balls. Sighing gently, she looked on over to her fiery friend and rested her forehead against Fina's. "Mind if I haul my crap in here and we can make a night out of this?"
Yes, this was exactly what best friends were for. Fina squeezed Roxy before letting go and looking down at all the stuff. "Did you raid a slumber party or something?" she asked with a half smile. She wasn't very hungry. All she really wanted was to be in his arms, but she would settle for not being alone. She helped her get it into the apartment and closed and locked the door. She bit her lip and looked at everything Roxy had brought. And she started to cry again. "I know it's stupid but I miss him. He hadn't even been gone two hours!" Moving to sit on the couch, she put her head in her hands.
"Raided my house, though I should've crashed from teen slumber party before coming on over," Roxy giggled at the thought while bringing everything inside. Once that was all settled, she quickly cracked open a bag of chips along with some French onion dip. Before she could even offer some to Fina, she realized that her friend had broken down into tears. "Oh, Fi, darling!" Placing the bag and jar to the side, Roxy quickly grabbed a box of tissues from her pile o' crap and darted over to the couch to join her. "Here, this along with three more boxes are all yours." She waved the box of tissues at Fina before plopping them to her side, then pulled the redhead into a tender embrace. "What even happened, Fi?" Aside from being his normal prick self and deciding to revisit the Cali incident all over again. Men...
Taking the tissues she was offered, Fina relaxed against Roxy. She really did have an awesome friend. It took her a few moments to calm down a little. "It was a demon. He got attacked and it messed with his head. He had to go, to get away from everything cause it hurt too much." She didn't realize that Roxy had no idea what so ever what she was talking about, that Rigby was a telepath and that he couldn't control it. All she knew what how she was feeling and that it sucked. Hard core. She blew her nose and looked over at her friend. "He promised he'd come back but that doesn't change the fact that he's gone now and it hurts."
"A demon?!" Roxy fluttered her eyes upon hearing that bit of information. She remembered the day that the attacks broke out and how all hell broke loose, though it had calmed down quite a bit. There hadn't been any 911 calls relating to them, at least not on her shift. Once the initial shock washed away, she rubbed Fina's back in an attempt to soothe the poor girl. "Did he say when he was coming back?" So I can have enough time to grab my hockey stick and pound his ass into the ground... "Maybe it'll be sooner than you think." Or maybe he would just skip town completely and never come back, just like he had in California. Roxy swallowed hard and did her best to shove that option out of her head. Fina didn't need to hear that at all, but the pink-haired girl couldn't help but worry.
She nodded. "A demon. I have no idea what kind or what it did exactly, but it got into his head." Fina shivered, wishing there weren't demons. They just fucked everything else up. There was no denying that. She'd faced her own demon and it had nearly messed with her job. "A few days? He didn't say exactly when. Took a key with him, so I know he's coming back." The more she said it, the more it made her feel better, even if that 'more' was only a little. It was in this moment that Ciro came in the window and she was never so happy to see the familiar. Instantly, he knew something was wrong and he fluttered by her.
"What's wrong? What's happened? Another demon?"
She nodded. "Yeah. It went after Rigby. He's gone, hoping to clear his head, get rid of the voices. He promised to come back though." She looked at the little humming bird and wished for half a moment that it was something she could cuddle. Biting her lip, she turned to Roxy. "I should tell you why he went away this time. It's because he's a telepath. It isn't something that he can control. The demon, it got into his head, and he heard all sorts of horrible things and then, even after it was dead, there was still all the voices of the thoughts around him, magnified so that it was this migraine and he needed to get away from so many people."
Oh... fucking lovely.... Roxy wasn't entirely psychic savvy, nor did she have a medical how-to-treat-a-psychic guide at hand, but she did know that telepaths read minds.... and that was it. Didn't occur to her that a telepath could pick up on a demon's mind and...yeah. Not good. "Geez, I would want to make a cave out of my bed and hide for days if that was the case. I scare easily enough on my own, I can't imagine what that was like." Oh great, now she felt somewhat sorry for the guy. Pouting, she hugged Fina again. "If he took the key, then that has to be a sure sign that he's coming back, right? I mean, he's just probably doing some soul cleansing... er, mind cleansing or whatever on his own, be away from everyone, and then poof! He'll be back at your door!" Well, at least it sounded good in theory.
"I hope so." She had to have faith. In the morning, she would likely feel like shit for doubting him, but until he came home, she would worry, she would miss him and she would want to be curled up in his arms. "He told me he'd call too. Which is kind of big for him." Her humming bird was hovering near her ear, the gentle sound of his wings soothing, at least a little. "And he finally told me he loved me. I've been trying to figure out since he'd got back when I would actually say those words to him and he chooses the moment when he's leaving to say it." She didn't know what it all meant and she curled up on the couch a little, grabbing the pillow with his scent.
Holy crap, Rigby dropped the big one - he loved the girl. Was rather hard to be pissed off at someone when they announced their undying love for someone... right? Though Roxy couldn't wrap her head around why he couldn't stay. If he loved her enough, he wouldn't have left, right? That's how love worked. You were there for someone no matter what, and Rigby seemed like he went 'pfff, fuck that noise' and skipped town. "I can't believe he said he loved you and then just left. What the hell, seriously?" Well, that was Fina's thing to stress out. Roxy couldn't deal with it if Charlene pulled that on her. Sighing gently, she rubbed Fina's back with a hopeful smile. "Maybe he'll call in the morning and keep tabs on you, who knows. Or maybe he'll change his mind and show up on your frontstep in the morning!" Though if that was the case, Roxy was going to be there and introduce herself to him with a fist in his face. Bastard shouldn't have toyed with her best friend's heart. Jerk.
Fina had no idea her best friend was currently thinking violent thoughts when it came to her boyfriend. She was more concerned with figuring out why he'd chosen that moment to confess his love. Maybe it was to prove he'd come back, that he had to come back. He'd taken the key (finally) and she knew that was a huge thing for them too. And he'd told her he'd call. Yet another thing he didn't normally do and it could also be added to the list of things he didn't do the last time he'd left her. This had to be a sign that he would come back and soon. And yet, all of that knowledge didn't help her miss him any less or have the fact that he was gone not hurt quite so much. Sighing, she squeezed her eyes closed and wished this was a dream. A really bad dream.
No response. Well, at least nothing verbal. So much for being the optimistic friend. Even though Roxy did her best to put people into good spirits, she couldn't help but think she was being way too idealistic to even be remotely helpfully. Still rubbing her friend's back, Roxy did he best to think quick and figured out something that would cheer up Fina, even if it was a little bit. "Hey, do you want to watch a movie at all? I brought over a bunch of DVDs. Oh, and ice cream! We can have milkshakes! Not to mention half of my family's stock of goodies in general. Hell, if you want me to run out and pick something up right now, I'll totally do that. Just let me know, Fi."
"I don't know what I want," she said softly, part of her knowing exactly what she wanted but they both knew she couldn't have it. "God, this day just fucking sucked!" As angry as the words could have been, they were more distraught than anything else. Taking a deep breath to attempt to keep the tears at bay, Fina looked up at her best friend. She figured she looked like shit and the fact of what happened was the only thing not sending the penguin into full preening mode. The mark of a true best friend. "PS, your ex? Total bitch, skank, ho. Which, I'm sure you already knew."
As much as Roxy wanted to transform Fina's apartment into a spa to give her at least ten different treatments, there were far more important things at hand, like her well-being. Roxy wasn't entirely sure what to do, but she wasn't leaving until she could get Fina to crack a confident smile of some sort. She continued to rub her back, but stopped abruptly when she heard her fiery friend mention one person that always got her panties in a bunch - Kayla. "Wait, wait, wait, back up the train for a second. You saw Kayla? Holy crap are you serious?! She didn't do anything to you, did she?!" And bitch skank ho was sadly not even enough to describe Kayla. God damn witch had to stop messing with people in her life. First Charlene, now Fina? Roxy was going to have to break out her old field hockey stick for more than just Rigby it seemed.
"Yeah. Saw her window shopping. Probably shouldn't have gone up to her and her freaky cat." Sheepishly, she moved her hair so her friend could see the welts on her neck, small, like drops of blood. Then she showed her arms and the marks that looked like ant bites. "Bitch is uber crazy but then again, I might have provoked her a little. But I only set fire to her purse after she cursed me the first time. Swear!" She rubbed at her back a little and it felt tender, which was odd. "But that started the day of epic suck." She had wanted to tell all that to Rigby and have him hold her all night, keeping her warm body tucked against his own.
It was hard not to gasp at the sight of such injuries. Roxy knew he ex was a witch, but she never knew what she was capable of... well, aside from being a massive bitch who needed to die in a fire. Apparently Fina agreed with that thought from the sounds of it. Roxy couldn't help but snort at the idea of her friend lighting her ex's bag on fire. Oh god, she would have paid so much money to see pictures of that! Though sadly now was not the time to be cracking up over it. Poor Fina had been through hell that day and there was nothing funny about that. "Oh my god, I'm so sorry you had to put up with her, Fi. I commend your effort, though. Next time you should light her hair on fire." Roxy wiggled her eyebrows before slipping off the couch. "You know what'll make this all better? Milkshakes!" She thrusted her arms up into the air with a smile on her face. Ok, maybe that wasn't the end all problem solver, but it was a start. "You have a blender, right? I can make us up some to enjoy. I always drink milkshakes when I'm down." Well, anything that was cold and had chocolate in it, but details details.
She nodded, wry smile on her face. "Yeah, well, funny enough that she equates me torching her purse to causing me all this fucking bodily harm. Total shallow bitch." Shaking her head, she rubbed her back again. "And don't worry about it. At least she lost her bag. She was all matchy matchy too. It was gross." Milkshakes didn't sound back. "Blender is over the sink. And I don't think there is such a thing as too much chocolate, by the way." Fina lay back on the pillows, trying to get comfortable. At least, she got to knock K-lee down a peg on her shit-tastic day.
Aha! That's where that smile was! Not the typical happy-go-lucky one that she was used to when around the fire elemental, but it was a step in the right direction. She scurried on off to grab the supplies she had dropped on the floor and gathered up the milk and ice cream before heading into the kitchen. "Ugh, she's still doing that?! And to think she's like, a model or some bullshit! I bet she needs like, ten personal assistants to tell her that she canNOT do that." Then again, Roxy never seemed to mind when the two were dating. Then again, she was head over heels for the gorgeous girl regardless. She made a burlap bag look hot, for christ's sake. Quickly whipping up two large chocolatey milkshakes for the two of them, Roxy headed back to Fina and handed her the drink. "Oooo! I even picked up something extra special for this!" She dove over the couch, all sorts unladylike while trying to grab a small bag on the other side. Finally grabbing it, she settled back down and whipped out a package of colorful bendy straws. She broke open the box and plopped one into both their drinks and beamed. "Tada!"
She glanced over at the kitchen. "You mean looking like a freaking crayon?" She shook her head. A model. She'd forgotten about that. No wonder she was all about appearances. Ugh. Fina put a pillow over her face and let out a scream of frustration at this day. Maybe it would be easier to be angry at K-lee because she knew she couldn't get all that mad at Rigby. She understood why he had gone, to a certain extent. Still, she was thinking about it and it hurt. Soon her bouncy friend sat back down with milkshakes and she sat up to accept the beverage. "Thanks." There wasn't really a smile on her face yet. How could there really be? Turning, she stretched to grab her phone, her shirt sliding up and revealing two, long, angry red welts on her back, ones that Fina had no idea existed.
The thought of Kayla being an ugly ass crayon made Roxy crack up. That was definitely an insult she could throw at the model if they ever crossed paths again. "Hey, not a prob! That's what friends are for right?" Taking a long sip on her shake, she inched over closer to Fina, realizing that her friend had some nasty welts on her back. "Oh my god! FI! Those are freaking monstrous! Uuuuuugh! I wish I was there. Would punch that bitch right in the face." How dare she hurt her friend. K-lee was definitely going to pay for putting the fire elemental through this. "I'm going to peck her freaking eyes out, I swear!" Rolling her eyes, she tried to calm down, knowing that this probably wasn't making Fina feel any better. "Whether it's standing off against Bitchface or letting you lean on my shoulder to cry, I'm always here for you, Fi. You know that... right?"
"What?" She turned, as if she could actually see what was on her back. Her fingers touched them and she bolted up and moved to the bathroom, looking at the wounds in the mirror. "Bitch." Fucking witch. It wouldn't surprise her if Rigby leaving was some how her fault too, if she had somehow cursed her enough that a demon sought out her boyfriend and caused him to skip town. They were angry and they hurt a little more now that she knew they were there. Fina wanted to kick something. Or someone. Or maybe that freaky cat of hers. "I had no idea they were even freaking there." She moved back to the couch, officially the grumpiest person alive. "I know, Rox. I do. I just don't know what I need right now." She collapsed back on the couch, no longer really in the mood for a milkshake. Closing her eyes, she curled up facing her friend and trying very hard not to cry again. She was stronger than this.
Roxy sat there speechless for a minute, not knowing what she was suppose to do to make her best friend happy. She couldn't help but think that no matter what she brought up, poor Fina was just going to curl up and be sad, which was completely understandable. Roxy did nothing but sulk in her cooler as a penguin when Charlene was sent to the hospital. It was one of those things that no matter what her friends and family did, it just didn't help. That in mind, Roxy put her milkshake to the side and lied down with Fina, looking at her face while scratching her head idly. "It's ok, Fi, I'm here for you. I'm not going to leave until you're doing better, ok? I'll sleep over for a month if I have to." And she meant every word of it, too. Roxy wasn't going to ignore any of her friends no matter what, especially when someone they loved just got up and left. While the pink-haired girl wasn't a massive fan of Rigby right then, she respected the fact that Fina cared about him, and was starting to hope the idiot would come to his senses, turn around, and come back to the one thing that should have matter more than anything else - Fina.
