"I swam here," Melia said, her tone expressing how obvious that should have been. "The same way you did, probably. I just followed the rivers into the big lakes and the big lakes here. It's quiet and people left me alone. Plus there are humans that live outside near the river by the town. They smell, but not if you leave them in the water for a few days." It softened the meat up a little, but it was a tradeoff she was willing to make. She took a bite of her own kelp, savoring the fresh, crisp taste. Swallowing, she scowled.
"Fishermen are never going to keep their boats out of our waters unless we sink them all," she informed him, remembering her own run-in with too-inquisitive humans. "Perhaps if they lose enough humans like we lose fish, they'll start to understand."
