And I don't wish to know the secrets of summer at all...
Who: Adam Rowe and Langston Wilde Where: A nice restaurant in town When: Around dinnertime What: Adam asks Langston to join him for a birthday dinner.
Adam had never been the sort of guy to want a big, lavish party or crazy celebration for his birthday. The tiny cake Ross had brought him, and his decorated office door, was more attention than anyone had paid to his birthday in years. He was grateful for it - it meant that, whatever their age difference might be, Adam had a friend in Ross.
Still, it didn't feel right to spend the night with his kitten in his townhouse, writing or playing piano. It was his birthday, after all - Adam should do something. It was with that thought in mind that he gathered what courage he had and called up Langston. He half-expected her to tell him she was working tonight - or worse, that she had other plans, ones that involved a boyfriend of some sort. All Adam knew was that he'd enjoyed their coffee shop rendezvous and he wouldn't mind seeing her again.
He was having a hard enough time keeping the soft, sheepish smile off his face as he held the restaurant door open for Langston to go through. It wasn't the fanciest place in Scarlet Oak, but it was nice for an evening out - the kind with decent food, but where Adam's jeans weren't out of place, either.
"Thanks again for coming out tonight," he said to Langston as the hostess led them to a table. "I wasn't sure if you were one for last minute plans."
