I don't know where to begin
Who: Coby and Brian
Where: Coby's townhouse
When: 11am, after meeting Chloe
Warning: Language
It was a good thing Coby had stayed under the covers all night, or she would have been half laying on Brian when she woke up. As it was, she had stayed mostly in the same position all night, hand on Brian's chest, curled against his body. Except for when the fucking protesters woke her up, and then she went back to sleep after meeting the neighbor. It was nearing 11am when she woke up again. She opened her eyes and realized there was a warm body next to her, and that body's name was Brian. But wait. They were both fully dressed, and Brian was laying on *top* of the covers. What had she done last night? Oh. Oh fuck. Memories flooded into her sleepy mind quickly, and she heaved a sigh. Fuck. You kissed him, you idiot, Coby thought.
Brian had, as the sun came up, slipped into a doze. He'd worked to stay awake all night, but no matter how big a cat was, he was always defenseless against the sun. So, though he was in the stiff and straight position that he'd kept all night, his eyes were closed and he was breathing deeply. Sprawled on his chest Pika rose and fell an inch or so, also deep asleep.
Coby smiled widely at the sight of Brian asleep, and figured if he was still asleep, she could steal another kiss before he woke up entirely. She leaned up, being careful not to squish Pika, and kissed him softly but surely, then, if he didn't wake up, she would sneak off to go to the bathroom. Her head was pounding, and she needed to go.
He stirred quickly, opening his eyes, then blinking as he recalled where he was. Turning he saw her and sat up, Pika tumbling down his shirt and then bolting to her feet and scampering off. "Huh...." he frowned an rubbed the back f his head before looking at Coby again. "Morning. You ok?"
Damn. Coby leaned back quickly as well, watching him with a little secretive smile. "Yeah, just a bit of a headache. Did you sleep alright?" Oh god, and she had cried in front of him last night. She was never going to live this down.
He smiled gently. "Of course," he said, then yawned and stretched. "Could I get you anything? Asprin? Food?"
Sarah: Brian was proving handy to have around. Protection and an offer of cooking breakfast? Damn. "Either or both would be nice," she said, her stomach choosing then to complain that she hadn't fed it since early last night. "Um..sorry for making an ass out of myself last night." Coby tried to to apologize often, but she'd been a huge bother to him last night.
He looked at her, then shook his head. "Everybody takes more than their fill once in a while, it's nothing to be worried about," he said, patting hr hand a bit awkwardly before he got up. "If you tell me where the asprin is I'll get you some, then start on the food," he said
Coby ran a hand through her hair, wishing she had the guts to reach out and pull him back into bed and kiss him until they both couldn't breathe. She didn't. "Medicine cabinet in the bathroom, top shelf." She pointed in the direction of the bathroom, which was attached to the bedroom, and put her head in her hands. "What sort of stupid shit did I say or do last night?" She knew very well what she had done--but maybe she could get it out of Brian and see how he had reacted. She didn't remember his reaction so much.
He bit his lip. "Not much. A bit unsteady on your feet, but, other than that you seemed just a bit down, which is normal for people who drink," he said gently, finding the pills and a glass, filling it with water and taking it back to her. "Here, take these and lay down. I'll bring the food up to you, alright?"
Coby frowned and nodded, taking the pills and water from him. She took them dutifully and laid back. He must have not liked it, otherwise he would have said something. At least he was a good friend, taking care of her like this. But it probably wouldn't go any further. Coby knew the heartache she felt meant she'd liked him. She tried to push it away. She curled up in a ball on top of the covers. Fetal position always made her feel better. "There's eggs and stuff down in the fridge," she said, her voice muffled a bit by the way she was laying.
He looked down at her, then sighed and turned and walked out. He wasn't any good at emotions, so... well, he'd try to figure out what to do while he cooked.
Sarah: Coby managed to get all her tears out before Brian came up to check on her, and feeling exhausted and emptied by the act of bawling her eyes out, she padded out to the kitchen after a bit to see what Brian was cooking. It smelled good at least. She sucked at cooking, which was why most of her meals came from the frozen foods section at the supermarket.
He'd rounded up plenty of eggs and bacon, and after putting toast together he had put up a big tray, along with juice and coffee. After a hesitation he'd wandered out briefly, finding a small red flower in a neighbor's years and bringing it back, putting it on top the eggs. He stared at it for a moment, then sighed, turning to go upstairs when he suddenly saw her and froze, caught red handed with the flower he probably would have stuffed in his pocket right before opening her door. "Oh. You're up."
Coby looked up at him and rubbed her eyes tiredly, her gaze wandering to the flower. She smiled widely, holding back a sarcastic comment. "Yeah. Looks good," she said softly, her smile holding. "That for me?" Coby asked tentatively, taking a step towards him.
He took a step back impulsively, but then forward again before he stopped and just looked confused. "Erm. Yes. I mean, the food and the... everything," He said, before looking over. "Would you like to sit at the table?"
"Yeah. I didn't mean to surprise you. Thanks a lot." She stole forward and took the flower lightly, sliding it behind her ear with a tender smile. This had to be a dream. Coby sat at the dining room table, watching Brian curiously.
He stared a bit befuddled for a moment, then robotically went after her, putting the plates down in front of her. He'd cleaned as he cooked, so the kitchen was near spotless as he sat with his own plate, looking around as Pika wandered in sleepily and smiling, putting a plate of bacon down for her.
The little red flower went quite well with her mass of brown curls and dark eyes. She had noticed that he'd cleaned, which almost deserved a kiss by itself. She beamed up at him when he sat the food down in front of her and dug in readily, definitely not one of those girls who tries to eat sparingly in front of men to make themselves seem feminine. "It's really good," she offered before taking another bite.
He blinked and looked at her. "Oh? I'm not really a chef," he said, then smiled. "Just good at breakfast, I guess." he ate himself and then looked at her. So pretty with that flower in her hair... his heart lurched, but he coughed to hide it from himself and took a deep breath. "I'm glad you're feeling better. That'll probably be the were blood kicking in," he said.
Coby nodded. The crying had helped clear her mind a little, even though it made her eyes red. She munched on a piece of bacon, "You're really damn good at breakfast. Should keep you around as a personal chef," she said, blushing a little at the connotation of that. Keeping him around. "Headache's pretty much gone now. The food's helping too." She couldn't help noticing, as she had last night, how fantastic his jawline was. The werelioness could almost feel his jaw under her hand again, her breathing sharp as she leaned in to kiss him last night. Her blush grew darker.
He smiled slightly. "I'd be glad to make food for you whenever you want it," he said, then looked down. She was blushing and had been crying. So many emotions... he sighed slightly to himself. "I... I wasn't the reason you were upset last night?" he asked, then paused. "And this morning."
"No." Her one word reply was hard to believe, but Coby was starting to come back to her senses with the food and being awake and not drunk. She didn't like people seeing her cry, why was Brian any different? He might like her, and the feeling might be mutual, but there was no way Coby was ready for a relationship. And a small part of her didn't want to hurt Brian when she moved on. But regardless, she was not getting into this shit. "I'm totally fine," she added on, finishing up her food and taking the plate out to the kitchen. Thank god for dishwashers, because Coby hated doing dishes. She rinsed off her plate and put it in said dishwasher, peeking into the dining room. "Um, thanks for staying with me last night. I don't know why I was so paranoid, probably that guy who got all uppity about me being a were." She also didn't like thanking people, and she had thanked Brian way too much already. Coby owed him a lot.
Brian shook his head, finishing his food and waiting for Pika to be done before taking her plate. "Don't mention it," he said, coming in and following suit with the dishes. "I'd still be careful for a few days. If you see anything suspicious make sure you keep track of it. And get an alarm system, in case you don't have one already."
"That's not a bad idea," Coby murmured. She'd have to look into that tomorrow, today was for job searching. "Don't worry, I won't be telling anyone from now on that I'm a were." Even if the asked. Coby didn't generally enjoy lying, but when it came to her safety, apparently it was necessary. "I might be getting a roommate soon. I put an ad in the paper and a guy responded to it. He's got a little girl. Should be good, less rent for me to pay." And she wouldn't have to take Brian up on his offer of working in his shop. Way too awkward.
Brian bit back the rush of protectiveness, barely holding his tongue as he listened. Still, a little girl probably meant the guy was safer. Maybe. He nodded and then resisted telling her he'd check the guy out and make sure he was safe for her. "That might be good. Family man is better for keeping the place safe. The more the merrier," he said, voice trailing off as he closed the dishwasher and then stared at it, knowing he was probably supposed to leave now, but not really wanting to. "How old's the girl?"
"Five, I think. Her name is Grace." Coby wasn't too great with kids, but she was sure Austin would be taking care of her most of the time. She didn't even know if he'd leave her alone with Coby, since Coby was a bitten were. He had sounded worried about that. She didn't blame him, if she was a single mom with a kid, she didn't think she'd leave her kid with a bitten were she didn't know either. "He..he sounded worried about me being a bitten were, so I don't even know if he'll move in. It's a possibility though." She leaned back against the counter, suppressing a yawn. How she was even tired after sleeping for so long, who knew.
"Ah," was all Brian had to say, though mentally he was thoroughly stunned at how many people she told in such a short time. She was the only one who knew about him, really, and he'd been here years and years. Still, the young people of the world seemed ready to take the Light of May and run with it, and for all Brian knew his personal 'don't ask, don't tell' policy was outdated and laughable. Didn't mean he was going to print business cards with his status on them. "Well, I hope it works out."
"Don't worry, I'm not telling anyone else," she said with a frown. Coby could almost see his thoughts on his face, like what the hell are you doing telling everyone what you are, girl? It made her angry. She thought that people would be more open about being supernaturals here, and less biased about it. She had obviously been wrong, and didn't like it. "He's coming over at 2 to check out the place." She crossed her arms over her chest, daring him to say something about how dangerous it was.
He frowned deeply at her, but didn't say anything. She was a grown woman and not his mate, even if they'd kissed and he wanted her badly. He nodded, however. "Good luck with your meeting. Call if you need anything," he said gruffly, turning and going to the kitten and picking her up, putting her in his pocket and then looking at her, wanting to repeat himself but holding back. "Is there anything else I can do before I go?"
It wasn't like Coby didn't want Brian, but the strings that came attached were too much for her to handle right now. She gave Pika a scratch on the head before he put her away, and managed a smile for Brian. "Nah, I'm good. Could we..maybe..go out in were form next week sometime?" It felt like asking for too much, but he had offered his help.
He nodded and smiled gently, brushing her hair away from her face as a sign of gentle affection, something his aunts and mother would do to him when he was younger. "Take care," he said seriously, then smiled before he showed himself out.
Coby blinked at his touch, blushing a little. "I will," she replied softly, watching him leave. Coby shook her head and went about cleaning up the rest of the house, Austin was due to be there at 2.
