TIME UPDATE
DATE: Sunday, June 21, 2009. Father's Day, and the first day of summer!
WEATHER: Light sprinkles through-out the day, but nothing so bad as to warrant an umbrella. It's insanely hot and muggy though, making the weather all around miserable.
EVENTS: Summer Solstice is here, though it falls on a somewhat dreary day. Opening today is the N. Chief Farmer's Market, which opens every June and runs through to November. It's one of lower Michigan's largest farmer's markets, with everything from local produce to crafts and second-hand goods. And despite the dreary weather, there will be a small petting zoo and pony rides for the kids today. Because nothing says 'happy father's day' like your kid smelling like wet pony.
Camelot Place apartments has announced today that they will happily welcome familiars - though obviously, some animals are just not fit for apartment living. There have been reports of bears and horses in the area becoming familiars, and Camelot Place is responding to this in an interesting and perhaps heartwarming way. The management has announced plans to turn several of the property's outdoor dog-runs into housing for larger familiars, and have even gone the extra step to work out a lodging deal with Scarlet Oak Community Stables in the meantime. Isn't it nice to see a little acceptance in the world?
Um. Well. Maybe not immediately - at least for the residents of Camelot Place. The announcement is made with the early edition news, and by nine AM, the protesters start showing up - most of them not even living at Camelot Place. It's just a few grumpy old men wanting to give the management a piece of their mind at first, but it doesn't take long for a crowd to form. And they get noisy, shouting at anybody who comes or goes from the property. Police are called to the scene to make sure the protesting and picketing stays peaceful, and that they stay off of private property.
Also in the news, an adult man was found dead on the Shore-to-Shore Trail near Ann Arbor. It appears that he fell from a high point, though no word on whether it was accidental or a suicide. Locally, there was a break-in at an Ann Arbor blood bank last night, and it appears that file cabinets were raided. That... doesn't bode well for anyone...
