And if there was an overnight miracle cure, Ross probably would have already tried it, thus eliminating the whole point of meeting up with Brogan. Sadly he had to deal with what he had, regardless of how difficult it was. Ross wasn't sure how many more sessions it would take until his life would go back to normal, and that was under the assumption it would go back to normal at all.
"Yeah, we met back in college out in New York." He rubbed his forehead before tucking his hair behind his ears. "I was attending Pratt and she was at Julliard. When you're in the city and a student, especially something related to the arts, you begin hanging out with the same people. Lanni was definitely one of them. She was such an elitist dancer, filled with life, and then you had me who was more or less the polar opposite of her. She couldn't STAND me at first, always giving me the silent treatment, but that didn't stop me." Ross stifled a laugh while recalling the memories. The tears kept coming slowly, but there was a small smile on his lips while he continued. "I'm not sure if it was because of my empathy that I was able to put her at ease or if she eventually opened up to me, but down the road we became excellent friends. And from there became girlfriend and boyfriend, and then eventually married."
The way his eyes sparkled right then showed how much he dearly loved Lanni. And he missed her desperately. It felt like a part of his life had been ripped away and he was struggling to survive. Ross let out a deep sigh, rubbed his eyes, then went on. "You know, when you have abilities like empathy and reading, it's easy to hide them. Lanni always felt that I was an emotional person and knew she could go to me to cheer her up. Doesn't sound so supernatural to anyone, now does it? And whenever I attempted reading it wasn't as if other people could see what I saw. Sometimes I saw answers in something as simple as the leaves falling during autumn or in the water inside a fountain. I kept it to myself and figured if people didn't find anything obscure about it then why bring it up?" Ross had learned the hard way not to inform people of what we saw in his vision back when he was a kid. That had landed him the mental ward the first time around and he had no intentions of going back.
"Then again, Chloe was starting to become suspicious." Ross laughed a bit more at that thought, even though the tears had yet to stop. "I always knew when she was lying to me - always know when anyone is lying to me, actually. It's the same, knotting, guilty tension and I can't ignore it. So I always knew when she wasn't going to Sally's house for studying and instead had plans to go out partying with some college guy. She was always livid with me when I figure it out, and saying 'Father's always know' only went so far." And Ross wondered why she was furious with him when he came out to his family about being a psychic.
