Playing Cops and Robbers
Who: Bailey (Solo)
Where: Scarlet Oak Police Department
When: Saturday June 20, 2009 late afternoon
Bailey had been contemplating getting a job for quite a while, initially he was going to bring it up with Katrina, especially after the whole announcement that they were hiring vampires for the police department. He knew almost nothing about his past, but it sounded exciting. So he did a bit of research on himself during his downtime the previous day. Turns out he a bachelor of science in Criminal Justice as well as three years in the Air Force, the last three months of which he had started training for the military police. He was only vaguely aware of being in the military, the rest of it had completely come as a surprise to him. There must have been a reason for Katrina keeping all of this from him, maybe she just didn't think it was necessary for their survival.
It probably wasn't, but it seemed that they were staying in Scarlet Oak for a while. Which meant they would have to blend in or risk being caught. And what a better way to blend en and cover his tracks at the same time than apply for a job at the police department? He knew he'd have to start at the bottom, apply, interviews, psych evaluations, police academy, and then the dreaded rookie shifts and crap route. But he'd take it because it was something better than sitting around in a hotel room. He was also hoping that this would somehow impress Katrina.
The real problem would be not messing with his lighter as he turned in his application though. He would try his hardest because he really really wanted to set things right with Katrina. His late night disappearances were probably getting on her nerves and as much as she probably didn't understand, Bailey really truly needed her in order to survive. This was at the core of his beliefs, so he couldn't live with letting her down. She was all his life revolved around, the things she told him only helped him, the things she kept from him were that way for a reason. He didn't realize though, that all of this could backfire.
He wore his best clothes as he walked into the station. They directed him to a Sergeant Buchanan who looked over his application as he stood there. "You expect me to even give you an interview when you've been MIA for two years?" He asked shaking his head and handing Bailey back his application.
"I was dismissed recently." Bailey lied, though he would be the moment he called moment he called his old base and told them he was now a vampire. He knew what was going on in the world around him. "If you would look at the bottom you would see that I was turned two years ago." He said handing back the application.
"Turned?" The man asked looking down at the application. "A vampire?" He asked looking somewhat surprised. "You come here for the nightclub?"
Bailey nodded, figuring it was better to lie with this than tell the truth. Lying got easier with each and every one he told. "But we decided to stay. My girlfriend and I. And staying means we need jobs. This was my first thought. I really loved what I did back in the air force, or what I was training to do and I'd like to continue with it." More lies, he couldn't remember anything from his former life.
"Girlfriend?" He frowned. "Well whatever makes a man responsible I suppose. Just realize that you're not going to be having all the time in the world to be at her beck and call if you get hired on. And I said if. So don't go home telling her you've got a job."
Bailey smiled. "Does this mean I have an interview?"
He rolled his eyes. "I don't know maybe. We'll call you to set up the time."
Bailey took a step closer. "Or we could just set it up now. Whatever time works for you works for me."
He chewed on his lip for a moment. "You're a persistent little fuck aren't you? Fine. Interview's on Monday. Ten am."
Bailey nodded. "Alright see you then."
He looked a little shocked. "You go out in sunlight?"
This was a stupid question, as the sun was still out, not that they were near a window. Bailey's eyebrows furrowed appropriately. "If you think that I'm going to burn up in it you're wrong. If you think that it's going to deter me from getting this job, you're wrong. I want this. And you being an asshole isn't going to stop me from trying again, and again, and again."
"And you've got balls too." Buchanan laughed and shook his head. "Fine. Monday, 10 am. Show up early, have references, and have references for those references."
"Will do." Bailey said with a nod. Surprisingly, the references would be the hardest part of the whole application process. He'd worry about that later. At least he got the interview.
