With my backbone stuffed inside your purse, this fairytale couldn't get much worse.
Who: Rigby and Graham Donovan
Where: Random bar! That also features live music :)
When: Eveningish
What: Old friends in the most unlikely of places... Graham's hometown!
Though he'd played at an open mic night the first night he was in Scarlet Oak - and met Fina in the bar afterward - Rigby still knew he needed to find paying work in town if he was planning on staying for any length of time. It was just a stroke of good luck that the band that was scheduled to play tonight had broken up an hour before the show and Rigby, sitting at the bar, offered to take their place - for half of the original band's fee. The bartender had been to that open mic and remembered him, vouching that he was, in fact, a decent guitarist and singer to boot.
He just had his fingers crossed that this would work out into something permanent - or semi-permanent, as was the case with him. Either way it meant he was leaving tonight with a few dollars in his pocket, enough for gas in the truck and maybe a little something for Fina too. Maybe, depending on when he left the bar, he'd make her dinner as a surprise when she got out of work.
His set wasn't terribly long, and he stuck with the songs he knew he was good at - closing with "Kiss on the Neck", with a verse from the Eagles' "Hotel California" thrown in. It was one of his favorites in spite of what implied - that he couldn't get his California girl. She was going to be waiting for him to come home tonight, he knew that much already.
After his song ended, the bar was a bit more crowded than he would like, and Rigby bowed quick before heading off stage. One beer, maybe, depending on how many people were in the bar, and he was out of here.
