Noah had closed up the shop early that afternoon. It was warm, and there were no patients to be tending to. He'd heard about the Familiar thing and he'd been checking periodically to see if he'd end up with some Animal that would be keeping his conscience clean. He couldn't imagine it. The animal would yack him to death if he decided to go about his business as usual to relieve some stress. And then likely it'd promptly sit in the corner, rocking back and forth because of what it had witnessed. He was lucky though. No stray animals hanging out and asking him questions. Just the Johnson's cat that had swallowed a chunk of cardboard, a lizard who'd gone a little pale and a couple of pigs that had been out on the farm and had gotten in to a case of beer. The last one had been his and Aden's favorite to talk about. He sent Rowena home though, after telling her that he was going to get the boy's a sitter for the night and that he was taking her out on a proper date.
The boys were good, after promises of pizza and a movie, and settled in the parlor to play. Noah made a phone call to a babysitter he often used for the evening and let her know he'd be needing her, likely a little late. She was able to do it luckily on such short notice and once while Noah went to the back of the house and got himself showered (so he didn't smell of Pig) and dried off. He combed his hair and made sure it looked nice, shaving to make sure the day's stubble was gone and after that got himself dressed. He heard the bell ring, and knowing it was the sitter, he let the boys answer it. He could hear them yapping at her Aden speaking up more as, for once, he knew more about this person then Caius did, and he got to show his older brother type the ropes of what happened when it was time for a sitter. He went over to his medical case and pulled out the neatly wrapped silver box with blue ribbon and smiled, taking it with him out of his room.
Noah had managed to make a detour on his way back to the office from tending to the beer drinking pigs and picked up Rowena little gift. Well...perhaps it wasn't so little but that was okay. He wanted to buy it for her and he had a feeling she'd really like it. At least, he'd hoped. Coming down the hallway from the back of the house he smiled at the girl who had been caring for Aden once in a while, here and there, for the past year. He'd found her through one of his patients, she was reliable, and Noah appreciated her services, paying her well. He gave her the usual instructions giving her money for both pizza and a movie rental, and telling her the boys were to be put to bed at a certain hour. It was a week night for everybody but the kids and the sitter, but that didn't mean they couldn't go out and have some fun. He assured her without her inquiring that he'd be paying for both boys, as she wasn't used to two, and gave her the spare key.
"Miss Rowena's here!" Aden called suddenly, and Noah finished with the babysitter before heading over to the window where the boys already stood, faces pressed against the glass.
