A much belated phone call
Who: Tayne and Johan
Where: Phoneland
When: Around 4ish in the afternoon
It had been a long day, and it was only going to get longer in the last two hours of work, but instead of pausing to eat something or even take a nap, Tayne had again begged Annie for a few minutes alone in her office to make a phone call.
He sat at her desk and nervously twisted the phone cord around while he waited for Johan to pick up. God, he hoped the guy didn't hate him.
Johan felt like shit on the side of the road. He hadn't had a proper drink since he'd kissed that guy at the bar and it was showing as he picked up the phone. "Hello, this is Johan Vik," he said, voice sounding terrible as he waited to hear who this was.
"Heeeey Johan. Uh, it's Tayne." Please don't be angry, he thought, a bit worried. "Sorry it took so long to call you back...." Should he explain, or would that sound like he was trying to make excuses? He didn't know. He'd never done this sort of thing before. Not with another guy, anyway.
Tayne, God. He wanted to hang up and throw up again as he swallowed, hard. "Hey Tayne- it's okay. I haven't been feeling good anyways," he admitted, not telling the whole story of throwing away all his booze right then. "I met a friend of yours, Justin"
Holy shit, that was the first thing out of Johan's mouth? That he'd met Justin? Now Tayne felt a little sick, too, and he mimicked Johan's heavy swallow. "Oh yeah? He's a n-nice guy, g-good friend. You should meet his d-dogs, damn. Sorry you haven't been feeling well... your hand?" There shouldn't be any infection... his mother was thorough.
Johan rubbed his forehead, laying on his back in bed, his head spinning a bit. "No- the hands' great actually. I just...haven't really drunk recently," he said simply, as if that was a normal thing for Johan to do. "Yeah- met him at a music store. Nice guy," he said after a moment. "How are you?"
"Uh, I'm okay," Tayne said with a blink. "Bit tired. Life's gotten kinda hellish for some reason. You haven't drunk recently? Drunk what? Johan, you kinda need liquids, or yeah, you're gonna feel bad." Unless, of course, he was talking about drunk drunk, as in... alcohol. The guy did have a lot of it.
Damn Tayne being cute, even over the fun. Damn Tayne for being worried, even when Johan was pretty sure that Tayne didn't really want him around as much as Johan wanted to be around him. "No, lots of juice and water. Just no...vodka. That kind of stuff," he said, almost moaning at the word vodka- god he'd kill for a nice big glass of one.
"That's probably a good thing, Johan," Tayne commented, still a bit perplexed. He felt ill from not drinking? The guy had... withdrawl from not drinking? Had he been drinking that much? "You don't need vodka right now. J-just hold out, man, the bad part'll pass." He thought. Tayne drank as much as any guy his age, but he'd never been a heavy drinker.
He didn't really want to focus on the whole drinking thing right then as he pouted, knowing he should get that out of his system before he saw Tayne himself. "Yeah, I'll be fine. I quit smoking cold turkey, so this can't be too hard," he said, not clarifying that he'd been smoking pot at the time. "I got a proper job with my roommate, so I have money for once. Can I treat you to dinner?"
This time, the first thought in Tayne's head when he heard that offer wasn't for Justin-- it was Krist. He didn't wanna ditch the guy tonight, after being gone all night and asleep all morning. He finally said, "Yeah. Yeah, I think I'd like that." And he was sure Johan would, too. After all, he was making an effort not to be pathetic, right? Right. "But tomorrow? I owe a friend some time tonight, but tomorrow I'm free."
"I don't think I could get up tonight if I wanted to," Johan admitted, closing his baby blues once more. "But tomorrow sounds great to me. I get off of work around four, so I can either come pick you up, or vice versa after that," he said, thinking that Julianna would surely force him to work the next day, and that would take care of any chance of him staying in bed feeling pathetic or sick.
"I don't get off work until six, so why don't I just swing by your apartment then and pick you up?" Tayne suggested. He'd have to explain to Krist why he wasn't going to be home on time. If Krist even really understood the concept of time.... Damn, with both of them having housemates, it was going to make getting any private time hellish.
"That sounds perfect- Julianna should be out for a while tomorrow night, so I don't think we'll run into her. Have you met her? She's really great, and I'm not even being paid to say that," he mentioned with a chuckle. He did actually like his roommie- she was sweet, and treated him pretty damn well.
"Uh, well, I know of a Julianna or two--" Who his brother had wanted to go out with. Or the Julianna his sister worked with. Tayne wondered if they were the same Julianna. Small world, if so. "Though I don't think I've met her personally. So tomorrow at six?" He'd ask about the job and the alcohol and Julianna then. "Try'n still be sober, okay?" he suggested with a wry little smile.
Oh- duh. Julianna wasn't exactly an unpopular name, even if it sounded a little alien to Johan's ears. Then again, so did a name like Tayne and that was one he was used to thinking about. "I plan on staying sober," he said, wishing he was at least still smoking pot. That might help with the sweating and vomiting. Or just make it worst, Johan really didn't know.
"Good," Tayne said with a little grin. "I oughta go-- I'm at work still. Using the work phone, and everything." And maybe if he hung up soon, he could have time to grab a bite to eat. He was definitely hungry. "You're sure you're okay, other than the feeling sick thing...?"
"Yeah- go eat or something. I'll see you tomorrow Tayne- I promise casual food. No tuxes or gelled hair," he said, managing a smile at the thought of how Tayne had looked at him in a tux before, utterly confused at the idea of Johan dressed like a penguin.
As if Tayne would let him take him somewhere fancy, new job or not. He couldn't be rolling in money yet, and Tayne knew about living paycheck to paycheck. He nodded a bit, almost tentatively, though Johan couldn't see it. "If you're sure... I'll see you then, Johan. You can tell me all 'bout your new job." And he'd tell him about Krist. Somehow.
"It's boring, I promise. But I'll see you tomorrow Tayne," he said with a smile, feeling pretty damn good about the situation, despite wanting to turn around and vomit into a bucket again as his body begged for anything: whiskey, vodka, wine. Whatever it took to get that buzz back.
