Pitter-pat, the angel on my shoulder is haunting me tonight.
Who: Mal, Cathy and Open Danny
Where: South Scarlet Oak, out around Sarah's Place
When: Evening
Covering two people with a single umbrella was a task all unto itself. Which could be the reason why Mal had finally handed it over to Cathy to hold onto while she had mostly attached herself to his back. She was really starting to get a little too old for this, but it was his baby sister. He had a hard time not indulging her and right now it was working out pretty well to leave her in charge of keeping them mostly dry while he could hold on to her (at least as well as he could manage) and keep half an eye on street signs. The rain had left the streets a little more empty, though that could also have something to do with the fact that it was dark. Of course all the "freaks" came out after sunset, but they were mostly known now to be vampires. Mal didn't mind the rain so much though and just hearing the gentle taping of raindrops against the umbrella. He would get them home eventually, but there was no harm in taking a little walk. Well maybe a little harm, but he'd dealt with odder things in his life already. Living your life in fear was not really living after all.
They'd gone out for dinner though over at Sarah's Place in one of his rather rare splurging events. Spending most of the weekend inside had obviously not been Cathy's idea of a good time, and he knew she was getting bored. Of course his father and Darla had been worried about him staying in Scarlet Oak alone since the whole kidnapping. They'd offered to let him move-in temporarily down with them and the extra gas it would take to get to work. He'd respectfully refused though, expecting they might suspend the idea of Cathy coming to visit until further notice. They hadn't though, which made him much happier. At least until she had to go home tomorrow morning. Then it would be back to wishing for school to get started again for the added distraction of it. "Hey Mal. Watch!" He wasn't sure what he was supposed to be looking at until the umbrella spokes were going around, sending water flying in all directions. He would have been laughing at her new discovery to keep the umbrella a little dryer until the rain hopefully let up again if there hadn't been someone turning that particular corner that now had rain splatters off their umbrella.
"Oh God, I'm so sorry. I'm sure she didn't actually mean to hit anyone one with it." He glanced back at his sister who was now trying to make herself as small as possible. "I think I have some paper towels here... Somewhere." Mal started checking his pockets, hoping for once they might be of use for something other than a drink coaster.
