have only just begun
Who: Bianca and Emyli
Where: The Court
When: Mid-afternoon
Black blood welled up from a neat cut on her wrist and Bianca watched, both fascinated and sickened by the sight of it. Fascinated because of all the things that she could do simply because her blood was black. People with red blood in their veins were not able to make dead animals come back to life and prance across the floor. Or make vampires do it, for that matter, when they had practiced hard enough like Aunt Delta. Black blood would work different spells than red blood could too, surely. The sickening part was that it was the reason she was going to die before the age of forty. Mid-thirties if she was lucky. That and she had been brought up in a religious family so the black blood was the reason why she had spent most of her childhood in some sort of religious-induced agony. And it abnormal. Bianca was struggling with that, and with the fact that her great-grandmother was a demon, since she had been trying to be on the side of anti-supernaturals when the whole Light of May had begun. It had gotten a lot harder to stay on that side when she had been shoved into the world of understand who and what she was.
And really? Bianca thought she liked this world better. When she actually gave in and played with dead animals her migraines would go away and the black would leech out of her eyes. But it never, ever left her blood. She had asked about that and Delta said it never would. Bianca had to learn to deal with that and she would. It was just a bit much to deal with when she had to stare at it like this. "I could just not do magic," she murmured to herself as she watched a drop bead up and drip off her arm, landing on the counter. At least when it died it would be impossible to distinguish from any other blood; even red looked black when it was dry.
Bianca snorted at herself and shook her head, the edge of her ponytail hitting her in the face. Like she was going to stop trying to learn something just because her blood was a funny color and made her feel a little squeamish. She was going to get over it just like she had gotten over the sight of her eyes making her flinch or grab for sunglasses. She was going to get over it because she would be damned if she was not going to know how to defend herself if something happened. Who was to stay that someone would not figure out what she was and think she was dangerous because of it? A few years ago, Bianca would have thought anyone like her was a freak who needed to be put down. It was one thing to put on a big show accepting witches and weres and elementals, but it was completely different to make friends with the people who could go out and make your dead grandpa dance a jig at his funeral if they felt like it. Though her style was decidedly more Pet Cemetery these days it still amounted to the same thing: zombie freak.
She was startled from studying the few spells she thought she could manage by the sound of the buzzer. Without even thinking she went over, arm still dripping, and pressed the button. "I'm trying to do something, Aunt Delta," she informed the person she was sure was on the other end. "Can't you come back and get me drunk after dark?" A pause. "If grandma's there, tell her no."
