He probably should have been surprised at the fact that Harper had shot balls of fire at the problem customer. It certainly wasn’t something that someone heard about very often, not terribly common, but it felt like a natural part of their lives. Josh could manipulate energy, or at least that was what it seemed like when he jump-started a dead laptop earlier today. He’d known that he could produced small electrical charges, like the kind of static jolt you got when you rubbed your socks against carpet, but today had been the first time that he had done anything more with his abilities than giving a few playful shocks to Harper. His smile deepened at the sight of her flicking on the flame as though she had a lighter in her hand. They had powers, and he really liked that fact about them. “I can imagine,” he said with a chuckle. “You’re at least going to let him get past appetizers before you start giving him a hard time, right?” Josh knew that Harper would waste no time in busting her little sister’s boyfriend’s chops. He was a little too happy not to be in this guy’s position -- tonight was going to be interesting.
For his own part, Josh did offer a smile to the other couple. Hey, Daveigh wasn’t his sister and he felt no reason whatsoever to pretend that either of them had anything to prove. He was just happy to be out with Harper; that he had been invited out for a double date was just a bonus. Josh nodded toward Daveigh, his smile taking on a charming tilt. “Daveigh, I’ve heard nothing but good things.” And that was entirely true -- as far as he could remember. He extended his hand out toward the other man. “I’m Josh,” he said as he shook his hand in greeting. He was vaguely aware of the fact that Harper was staring Daveigh’s boyfriend down like prey, which may have prompted him to be a little friendlier than usual. He had to make a good impression on Daveigh, after all, though his job wasn’t nearly going to be as difficult as the poor sap that sat across from him.
“You two haven’t been waiting that long, have you?”
