At that precise moment, Kaye was doing an uncanny impression of a goldfish and was greatful there was no-one around to see her mouth opening and closing like a twit. "That's great Lou" she managed to say once her mouth had finished flapping up and down.
Louise smiled on her end of the phone before standing up and walking to the window. "Okay- so I'll be landing tomorrow, and all the stuff comes after me. I'm bringing Merlin, so he'll be a very angry kitty," Louise said, going over the mental check list. "Now, I don't think that I need the internet at the new house for a week- but then I will".
Brain still not entirely in gear, Kaye nodded in understanding before remembering that gestures were ultimately pointless in a phone conversation and let out a small sigh of frustration at her dumb ass-ness. "You and a very angry Merlin arriving tomorrow. Check."
She laughed at the mention of the internet and shook her head in disbelief. "You might survive a week without the net but I won't - the forum would probably implode or something if I don't keep a close eye on it. Don't worry though, the house is already wired up, I'll just need to make a call to get it connected."
"Perfect," Louise said with a smile. As she thought about grading those papers for school so that she could focus on her next job. "I miss you- I know I said that already, but it's still true. I miss you a lot," she commented after a few moments. "I think that my students thought I was going nuts during lectures. I have that picture of us at my parent's as my wall paper and I would stare at it whenever I turned my laptop on during lectures".
Kaye knew what picture Louise was talking about, it was one of her favourites of the two of them and the mental image of what her girlfriend described was so clear in her mind that she found herself grinning from ear to ear. "God you're adorable," she replied, pulling her knees up and resting her chin on them. A thought suddenly occured to her and her smile took on a wicked note.
"Maybe I should take a new picture for your laptop, one that'll really distract you during lectures," she said coyly, thinking of the cerise silk slip Louise had bought her for Christmas.
Louise blushed at once, but smiled wickedly as she looked at the purring Merlin. "That might be fun- I think my students would get pretty distracted as well!" she said with a laugh before sighing a little bit. "I wish I'd just gotten a ticket for tonight," she said with a huff.
"I'd be able to just fall asleep with you now," she commented.
"Oh sweetie," Kaye replied, all naughty thoughts disappearing from her head as at that moment she wanted more than anything just to be able wrap her arms around Louise. She might be arriving a day earlier than planned but she wasn't there now.
"I love you so much Lou - I really can't wait for you to get here."
"I can't either- I just want to hold you again," she said with a smile, sitting back on the window sill as she played with her long black hair. "How about you come pick me up at the airport and we don't let go until we have to work?" she said as Merlin began to chase a little fly.
Relaxing against the wall behind her, Kaye unwittingly mirrored her girlfriend's action as she ran her hands through her own hair. "I can't think of anything I'd enjoy more," she replied. "What time is your flight due in?"
"...that would be good to know," Louise said as she began to cradle the phone between her shoulder and ear looking at the paper work all around her before finally spotting the ticket. "We're supposed to land at....1 pm. So I'll be hungry for food, and Merlin will be crabbier than usual," she said. Louise often talked about Merlin like his happiness was as important as Kaye's or her own, but Louise just honestly loved the furball.
"Yes it would." Listening to the rustling of paper which she presumed was Louise looking for her flight details, Kaye couldn't help but marvel at the fact that her girlfriend had successfully organised herself. "1 pm, got it. I'll sort out something to do for lunch and pick up some cat-nip to appease his lordship," she replied, an indulgent smile on her lips. Merlin really was as close to a kid as her and Louise were likely to have anytime soon and they spoled him rotten.
"I guess I'll see you tomorrow afternoon then hun."
"Yeah, you will," Louise said, almost beaming as she thought about it. "Want me to bring anything from here? A box you hid and forgot about, anything?" she asked as 'his lordship' began to rub between her legs, a low rumbling purr in his chest as he looked up at his 'mother'.
Kaye thought for a moment before shaking her head. "Nothing that can't wait Lou, you're the only thing I'm desperate to see." She paused before adding with a grin. "Well I can't wait to see Merlin either, but I'm mostly excited about you."
"Thank you for ranking me above the cat!" Louise said with a laugh as she went back to her 'bed' and sitting place, the muffin long forgotten now as a hand went up and through her long black hair. "I think I should sleep- I'd really hate to be late for my plane," she said, not really wanting to go. But it was rather like Christmas, wasn't it? The sooner she went to bed, the sooner she'd wake up to find gifts under the tree.
Letting out an exasperated breath, Kaye pushed herself up from the floor and picked up her bag. Louise was right and as tempting as it was to talk for hours, the prospect of having her there with her in less than 24 hours was far more appealing. "Okay I'll let you go," she said, a note of sadness in her voice. "Sleep well gorgeous, I'll see you tomorrow."
"I'll see you as well!" Louise said, happily thinking about all but mauling Kaye at the arrivals gate and horrifying anyone over the age of 50 or republican. With a final 'I love you' she hung up the phone, letting it fall to the ground as her eyes closed and she began to feel just...perfect.
Entertaining similar thoughts of her own regarding their reunion tomorrow, Kaye slipped her phone into her bag and made her way downstairs with a slight bounce in her step and a smile on her face. Tomorrow couldn't come fast enough.
