it's not you, it's me
Who: Belinda and T.J.
When: Afternoon
Where: T.J.'s house
Truth be told, Belinda had not been gone that long. Her trip had lasted no more than six months, and most of that time had been spent traveling to and from South America. Some would make the argument that her endeavor had been an unsuccessful one, but she would (of course) strongly disagree with that statement. Though her time in the other country had been brief, she had indeed made a visible difference. There had been several villages that experienced an early and successful harvest because of her; she had also, with the help of a Water elemental, created a lake so that the villagers could have a closer water supply. She would invite any negative voices to tell those happy and appreciative people just how much of a failure her trip had been. And that didn't even include all that she accomplished on the way back! She had been involved in no less than fifteen protests, one of which included her tying herself (naked) to a tree to prevent the groundbreaking of a new suburban neighborhood. It didn't matter that they were likely building the cement neighborhood at the current moment, at least not to Belinda; she knew she had made a difference, even if it was only in bringing attention to the cause.
Despite her short "vacation" from Scarlet Oak, Belinda felt as though she were an entirely different person -- a more advanced, more mature, better person -- and she felt the need to honor that. There was a small part of her that considered delaying the painful inevitable, but she had never been the type of person to back away from a decision once she had made it. What did this mean for her day? That today she was going to pay a visit to T.J.
As she always did when visiting the other elemental, Belinda rode the bus to the nearest stop and walked the rest of the way. For all that she loved her van, it was not very gas efficient and she refused to waste such an important resource for what wasn’t even a thirty-minute trip; that, and the bus allowed for her to interact with others, and she was always fond of meeting new people. The weather really wasn’t the best for traveling in and Belinda had not dressed appropriately for the cold rain. Her shawl offered little protection and eventually became more of an enemy once it was soaked through; she kept her head up, however, delighting in the mud that caked on her feet and up around her ankles as she walked. She was a few yards from T.J.’s front door when the rain shower stopped. The peeking sun was a welcome comfort, but it did not change the fact that she looked like a drowned rat.
Not to be discouraged, Belinda bounced up the door. When she knocked, it came out more like a melody than a commanding blow to answer the door. She began digging in her purse as she waited for a response. Though she may not have had the forethought to tell him that she was leaving for a few months, Belinda had been considerate enough to find him some souvenirs. Her enormous purse seemed to have swallowed the presents whole. No matter, she was sure she would find them eventually. The door opened with her hand still halfway in the bag, but it didn’t stay there for long. Upon seeing her (current) beau, Belinda opened her arms and jumped into a hug. “TEEGE!” The name came out more as a squeal than anything else. What? She was still excited to see him, no matter what her reasons for visiting today were.
