Eileen was still on the fence as far as her last blood-getting errand was concerned. On the one hand, she had gotten enough blood to sell to her mother’s customers; on the other hand, after testing the blood (it was important to know what you were selling, especially where vampires were concerned), she realized that the girl had been a rare blood-type. She wasn’t kicking herself too hard about letting her go, however. Scarlet Oak wasn’t that big of a town and, though she wasn’t as familiar with it as her mother, Eileen was sure it wouldn’t take long for her to find the slutty blonde again. Hell, she even had a head start: she remembered the bar the girl said she worked at. Anywhere But Here. She would be visiting that bar again sometime in the near future, but not tonight. Tonight, Eileen considered herself ‘off duty’, which was displayed as much in her clothing. She had dressed herself in a manner that had caused Scottie to refer to her as ‘dowdy’. Her familiar didn’t seem to like it when she wore clothes that covered the better part of her body. Eileen didn’t care what Scottie, or anyone else for that matter, thought about her clothing. She wasn’t looking to attract attention. Tonight was just for her to go out and relax. Normally that time would be spent at home with her mother (she would have preferred that, honestly), but Kiara was out on business and Eileen wasn’t in the mood to stay up all night watching movies.
She was two drinks deep when a brunette caught her eye. It was her dress, more than anything else. The other woman looked like she belonged in a bar that was much more upscale than this one. She also wore her confidence as well as she wore the designer clothing she had on. Eileen would have likely carried on with her business had a grotesque man not approached the brunette, obviously violating her space. She took a slow sip of her drink as she watched the scene unfold – it was better than television. In a second, Eileen knew that her mother would have killed the man on principle. He was guilty simply by being a man, but putting unwanted hands on another woman? The corners of her mouth picked up a little at the thought of how her mother would have bled him slow. She may not have been one for violence, but she could not tolerate handsy men.
It was debatable whether or not she would have stepped in if the need arose for it. Though she’d like to think that she would, it truly depended on her mood. Fortunately, Eileen would be facing no moral quandaries tonight; the brunette seemed more than capable of handling herself. She finished her drink and motioned for the bartender to send her a new one as she moved down the barstools until she was close to the other woman. “Want to see something fun?” There was nothing really friendly about the smile Eileen gave; it wasn’t menacing, but it was obvious that she was up to no good. With a napkin in hand, she bent to the spilled blood to make like she had the intention of cleaning it up. Some of it was wiped away by the napkin, but a good portion was smeared and collected by her bare hand. She went back to the stool beside the brunette. With the blood cupped in her hand, she brought it to her lips and began whispering into it. Once the spell was set, she silently wiped the remaining blood away. Eileen turned her eyes toward her work, nodding in the man’s direction to make sure the other woman didn’t miss the show. The man started shaking his head within seconds. He brought his hands to his ears, digging his fingers into them as though he was trying to get something out. In a way, he was. The spell had filled his brain with the buzzing of a dozen flying insects; they weren’t really there, but he didn’t know that. “Doesn’t seem to enjoy having gnats in his ear, does he?” Eileen grinned as she reached for her new drink. She was going to end the curse eventually, but not before he had suffered a little.
