If August had had any hint of what tonight would have in store for him, he would have stayed at home – and made sure that his two youngest siblings did the same. He had been out at a pack member’s house, enjoying a bite to eat and the after dinner company. His father had always taught him that it was important for the Alpha to remain close to each and every one of his pack, keeping himself on a familiar basis with them should they ever need anything. Tonight was supposed to relaxing, and it had been up until he had gotten a call from Jo. It had taken him less than a full minute to excuse himself, get in his car, and speed to the high school. He spared no time on the trip; August called every member of his pack who he knew to have children old enough to be at the Homecoming dance. They were all frantic with worry over why none of them had called or come home. For those who weren’t already at the school, August reassured them that he was on his way and he would do absolutely everything in his power to get the children free. He couldn’t blame them, but he got the sense that many of them felt reassured more so because they knew that he would do anything to protect his siblings above all else.
The school parking lot was complete chaos. Police were everywhere, mostly trying their best to keep the terrified families at bay. He had no choice but to park his car at a distance and get out to search for his sister. As he weaved his way through the crowd of people, his ears tried to pick up what he could from others. It was all a mess of confusion and fear, and all of it did nothing to ensure his sense of calm. Inside he was terrified. August, along with every other member of the Summers family, would be devastated if anything were to happen to the youngest members of the brood. As he searched faces for the familiar one of Jo’s, all he could think about was seeing Lotti’s smile or hearing Kyle’s laugh again. Finally he spotted his sister, leaning against her car and obviously fighting an oncoming panic attack. He had to be strong now and keep it together for her. “Hey, hey,” he said reassuringly as he rushed up toward her, placing strong, reassuring hands on each of her shoulders. “I’m here, Jo. Talk to me. Tell me what you know.”
