Drina laughed easily at Lizbeth's comment, nodding briefly in agreement. "Exactly," she remarked. "Just enough to afford a greasy heart attack." She wasn't a health freak by any stretch of the imagination, but a home-cooked meal would always win over fast food in her mind. She'd eat it if she absolutely had to while on the run, but with a place she slept regularly (there's no way that she considered that tiny apartment home) there was no excuse to not cook a meal. Especially now that she had a dinner companion nearly every night. She never stopped to think that Marco only wanted to spend time with her for her cooking; sure they jested about it, but she knew the roots of their friendship went deeper. Ever since he had helped her home that night, she had been inclined to trust everything about him and she had not trusted so implicitly since Heath.
Whether Lizbeth thought she was being nosy or not, Drina did not mind. It was a simple enough question and harmless to boot. If anything it gave her coworker the knowledge that she was physically capable of taking care of herself. She laid her hands flat on the smooth surface of the table, running her palms gently over the pseudo-marble finish. "The owner's been teaching me a little judo and taekwondo lately, but whenever he's busy I use the equipment." She studied Lizbeth for a moment and realized that there was a method to the girl's meekness. She was friendly to be sure, but something in her life caused her to be reserved. She barely knew her, but Drina felt the maternal instinct to be protective over those weaker than her and Lizbeth fell into that category just from her disposition. "You don't have to be very strong for some things," Drina said with a light smile. "Knowledge is one of the best weapons you can ever have to defend yourself; knowing where to apply pressure even when someone is bigger than you can be the difference between life and death in some situations." She paused for a moment and then continued. "You know, if you ever wanted to learn some, you could come with me sometime. Troy's an excellent teacher and I think his sister works there too. Or," an idea suddenly bloomed in her mind. "I know a few things myself that I could show you that would be really simple to learn. It never hurts to be prepared."
Uh oh, Drina thought to herself once the subject of school had been broached. Lizbeth was clearly uncomfortable with the subject, so once she explained that she as just working for the time being, Drina let the subject fall. She wasn't about to make the redhead talk anymore about things that made her uncomfortable. "I'm sure things will let up at some point and you can go." She glanced down at the table, trying not to let the awkward silence hang in the air longer than it had to. "Do you have family here?" She asked, hoping the mood would remain light and friendly.
