nothing bonds people like a busy day at work
Who: Drina and Lizbeth
When: After the lunch rush
Where: The Golden Dragon
The Golden Dragon wasn’t the type of restaurant that was busy every hour that it was open for business. For the most part, customers filtered in and then back out again at a rate that was hardly overwhelming. There were certain hours that were busier than most. For example, there was always a rush that came in between 6pm and 7:30pm – that hour and a half when everyone decided to come out for dinner all at once. The other rush of the day, the one that Lizbeth had just survived, was their lunch rush. Everyone who had a lunch break to take all came in at the same time. Some were nice, friendly even, but most of them were pushy and impatient because of the time constraints. Lizbeth managed to keep a bright smile and a positive attitude while she was at work, but today was finding her with a slight crack in her normally sunny disposition. Last night, she had worked a full shift at Heme, and yesturday she had worked a double at The Golden Dragon. Lizbeth was doing little more than running on fumes at this point, and it was starting to show. She set down her tray full of sugar containers on a table near the kitchen, where she would refill them before placing them back out on the tables. Her next task was to go into the back to get said sugar for refills, but she stopped to reach in her apron for her cellphone. Despite the fact that it was on vibrate and she would have felt it had it gone off, Lizbeth flipped the phone open nonetheless to check for messages. Even when there were no alerts for a missed call or a new voicemail, she still called her inbox to make sure. A disappointed sigh made her shoulders sag as she returned to her duties. Since her interview, Liliya had called her all of once for more blood. She had been thrilled, more so than her brother would have liked, but maybe it was more than Liliya liked as well. The vampire hadn’t seemed to mind her enthusiasm during the interview. There was a good chance that Lizbeth’s anxiousness to see the other woman again was making her irrational and she tried her best to remind herself to be patient. Besides, she wasn’t in the best physical shape to be a blood doll tonight. When she returned to the front, her eyes caught sight of her partner today. Out of all her co-workers at the restaurant, Drina was by far her favorite. When she had moved to town and been hired, Lizbeth replaced the other woman as the “new girl”. It was nice to have someone else around that wasn’t familiar with the way things worked at The Golden Dragon, in addition to not being a Scarlet Oak native. She was always incredibly friendly to Drina, but she suspected that the reason they were not friends outside of work had to do with a great deal of apprehension on both their parts. Lizbeth had her own habit of shying away from friends; she never asked anyone out for dinner or over to her place, and when Drina never offered either, Lizbeth suspected that the same was true for her as well. She smiled brightly at the brunette before speaking. “Is it just me or did it seem like everyone in town decided to come in today? I feel like my feet are about to fall off.” Speaking of which, Lizbeth decided to take a seat while she did her side work. |
