The past couple of days had been...for a lack of a better term, good. This was such a strange thing for Keira to deal with -- since coming to Scarlet Oak things had been decent, tolerable, okay. She had accepted that those were adequate words to describe what her life had become since leaving New York. She would never ever feel as though she was flourishing, despite the fact that she was finally going to school and finding out what it was she wanted to do with her life. She was exploring herself and her abilities, learning more about her magic and her psychic empathy. Some days were better than others, mostly those days when she didn't want to run screaming from the outside world to protect herself from feeling, but then, she was sort of used to that by now. For her, life had sort of settled into a routine of non-excitement. Nothing really happened and she was more than fine with that.
And then. Dominic had found her.
Really, it had only been a matter of time, knowing him. She had felt too many things at once to really define what had been at the forefront -- their relationship was far too complicated for her to assign it a clear, distinguished reaction. And then, the last time she had seen Dominic... A smile came to her lips at the thought, the feeling of an uncharacteristic laugh coming close to being released. She settled for a heavy sigh instead, but anyone that saw her would be able to see it. Happiness. It wasn't the full-on bliss that she'd experienced before -- too much had happened to allow for such a casual slide into something as comfortable as that -- but there it was, all the same. It was like a blanket, wrapping her up and buffering her against everyone else's feelings. So much so, that Keira found herself in the most unlikely of places. Scarlet Oak park, to be exact. Classes had ended over at the university much earlier, and despite the chill in the air, she had felt the urge to spend some time outside.
It was strange how easily she walked through it, almost as if she was holding onto the moment for as long as she could. It wouldn't last, because she was still completely mixed up about all of it, but at least she could enjoy just a bit of fresh air in relative peace. Peace. This time, Keira did laugh out loud. She felt so exuberant, she aimed a sloppy kick at a soccer ball as it came rolling her way off of a nearby field where some kids were playing. She kicked it so hard, it shot right into a nearby tree. A squawking tree. Looking for the source, Keira's eyes fell on the raven flapping in the air. Her line of sight shifted downward and she gazed upon a very familiar face. For a moment she just lifted one eyebrow, a wry little smile on her face.
Without stepping forward, Keira lifted her chin slightly in acknowledgement. "Castel," she said, her voice devoid of any particular tone or indication of how she felt about seeing him again. Lifting her gaze, she smiled a bit deeper. "Nice bird."
