the things you see are not the things that i see.
Who: Castel and Keira, featuring Noctis (NPC).
Where: The park.
When: Early afternoon.
The cooler weather didn’t trouble Castel in the least. Growing up in New York had helped to build his resolve when it came to the fall and winter months and as surprising as it might seem to some to learn he actually liked snow. Not for the same reasons that children and other innocents enjoyed it, but there was something pure and powerful and unapologetic about it that he couldn’t help but appreciate. It had yet to come to Scarlet Oak this year but he didn’t doubt that it would. He almost believed he could feel it in the air, that little bite at the tips of your fingers and nose, at your ears and against your cheeks, and he smiled quietly to himself as he walked along the path, easily tuning out all the noise of the other occupants.
“Enjoying yourself?” Noctis glided overhead, his feathers barely even rustling in the cool air as he went from one perch to another.
Why would you assume something like that? he asked the bird, keeping his voice between them, much the same as the raven had. It wouldn’t do to start talking to what appeared to be little more than a regular bird and have people casting him questioning looks. Because I smiled?
“Well it can be difficult to tell,” Noctis replied, taking a moment to preen and tidy his feathers before hopping to the next branch in the tree he’d come to perch in. Castel could feel the raven’s eyes on him as he walked. “Even to me you are difficult to read.”
That is exactly how I like it, Castel told the bird with another smile. While he didn’t go out of his way to be aloof and mysterious it was a state he was comfortable with, one he had become more than familiar with over the years. It was so much more challenging for someone to judge a person if they couldn’t get an accurate read on them and Castel did so like to make things difficult for others.
“Well, please don’t let me--” The words were cut off by a loud and undignified squawk, not Noctis’ usual deep and unmistakable caw, and Castel turned his head towards the sound, about to chastise the bird before he saw the ball come sailing down from the branch where the raven had been sitting. A soccer ball. Castel sneered and turned his eyes around to find the source, even as Noctis flapped overhead, cawing and grumbling all the way.
