What was it that her father had told her before they moved out here... staying calm was always key. Granted Dalila had known that since she was a little kid. It was hard not to pick up on the memo when mom and big brother were sharks. She knew what happened when people freaked out around a shark and true, she was sure her brother would never take a chunk out of her, but she still knew. Only she was a really far way away from scared of them. No, what she was scared of was actually sitting right in front of her with dark hair and eyes, looking up at her as calm as day. Only you're not calm. Dalila did not need to be a telepath to know that, she could see it in how she was sitting. Tense, that was the word. Rico would have snorted and made a remark about a stunned fish at that point, but Dalila only thought it idly because she was not the one who looked at everything through the eyes of a predator. No, hers were very much human... only the sort of human who was not afraid of anything. It was really hard for her to register what it was like to be afraid of someone when she was so unused to feeling it, but it was right there.
This was why she needed to find a way to keep Jaws with her all of the time. He would make everything so much easier to deal with if he was there to boom his voice out in her head, or even in this Ronnie's. Ronnie who... she had not caught onto it yet. Oh, oh good. Dalila could work with this.
"Yep. Dalila Palminteri." She pulled on her friendliest smile, the one that showed all her teeth and did not look near as predatory as Rico's managed to, and held her hand out. "I went through the new girl act last year so I know what it's like. Wasn't that bad." Telepathy helped. Being naturally out-going helped more. Finding people like Lumen and Evelyn right off the bat helped the most. Now this year she had the scariest big brother that anyone could ask for - what beat a shark? - and yet it was this year she had found something to be freaked out over. "Lunch... okay, lunch is better. If I miss class then Lumen will lose her fiery little head and you will have an enemy on day number one. No one wants that." She flipped her hair back over her shoulder and tried to empty her mind, letting nothing but the echo of Ronnie's thoughts sound in them. "Good enough for you? Only thing is that between now and then you don't say anything about me and I don't say anything about you. Deal?"
