Pugsley's motives one way or another were missed entirely by his witch. Yes, she had scooted closer to Reggie so that their knees were brushing against each other, but that was just because Pugsley was trying to be comforting, right? She didn't realize that his way of comforting her also had the intention of letting Reggie comfort her too. Her fingertips massaged the smooth fur behind Pugsley's ears, which told him that he was doing a very good job of whatever it was he was doing, which naturally made his tail wag gently behind him. When Reggie responded with 'wow,' Keelin finally looked back up at him, her gaze locking onto his eyes. Were they always that green? Or had she forgotten just how bright they could be since she saw him Friday? Regardless, she noticed how much she liked that shade of green. Her realization pushed her eyes back down to her hand on Pugsley's head.
Except, then there was a hand on her shoulder and her gaze shifted again to Reggie's eyes. "You could say that -- here. She's staying here." Which made it even harder because Kahlan was around her all the time, so the newness was constantly in Keelin's face. "I-I told her she could stay here for a while, until she could find a job and a place to stay. But I don't know how long that'll be, really. Kahlan showing up was more than just my sister coming back from the past. Even if I didn't believe her, I can't just not help her; she's pregnant. I'm going to have a niece or a nephew someday... It's a family I never thought I'd see again and it's growing right in front of me and there are so many questions I want to ask her. I don't know what really happened after my adoption... All I know is that she's left with nothing and has a baby on the way."
'She's a witch too. She has a mouse named Woodhouse, but he's depressed or something. I bet if he met Tiger, he'd ask him to eat him. He's weird. He's out with Kahlan to help her look for jobs.' Pugsley shifted and rolled onto his back, so his belly was face up. "I don't know how to talk to her," Keelin admitted. "I don't know how to fall back into life with a sister there. I'm not eight years old anymore; I don't even know if I can let her in like I used to." Her hand had slid off of Pugsley and onto Reggie's knee, but she didn't realize it at the moment. All that mattered was the fact that she was talking and letting everything out; she hadn't spoken to anyone about Kahlan's arrival at all, and so she was finally able to release her thoughts and frustrations.
