The fact that she responded so quickly to the hug warmed him, it truly did. There had been a time in his life when he'd have given anything to feel this again, and now that she was here, it was hard to remember what it had been like without it. It would come back once she was gone, it always did, but he'd hang onto it for as long as he could. It didn't matter that she was upset, Clive was prepared to be there through thick and thin and here he was, doing just that. "That's what dreams are," he reminded her softly, "so real they almost take us out of our own minds and put us somewhere else. But it was just a dream. Take a few deep breaths, it'll be alright."
The next thing she said, though, that one got him. It wasn't like Clive didn't know she was sorry, because he did. It didn't change the fact that they'd gone forever and a day without her here, that she'd missed their son growing up to be a happy, well-adjusted young man. There was no use in going over all of that again, and he didn't want to get upset over it - or worse, angry. Clive angry was never a good thing and it wouldn't help anyone. "I know, baby," he murmured, resting his cheek against her head. "I know."
