What's that make us? Big damn heroes, sir.
Who: Jonas and Regina
Where: The bridge
When: Late morning
"Are you sure you don't want someone to look at that?"
Jonas looked up to see the paramedic, just a kid out of school really, the girl pointing at his shoulder. The marks from where the demon had clawed at him earlier were clotted over now, the once blue color of his tee soaked to tarnished red in spots. The last thing he cared about were his own injuries - if he got hurt, then that was a risk he was willing to take, all things considered, so long as more of those demons lay dead by his hand. Selena was probably going to have a field day with him once he returned home tonight, but he knew his woman wouldn't begrudge him this fight, not when she wanted the demons gone as much as he did.
So he only shook his head and passed the paramedic the little boy he was carrying. Thank whatever gods were out there that the National Guard was still around to help with the recovery efforts, for the weaponry and backup they provided at a time like this was beyond helpful. "Nah, not worth your trouble." He didn't say he was all right, because he wasn't - but the last thing the angel would do right now was put himself before someone else's needs. "This little guy's needin' some attention, looks like he's been tore up plenty." Jonas was tired, and his accent was coming back out, evidence that, once upon time, he'd just been a farmboy in Oklahoma, minding his own business and helping his family out on the farm. In truth the kid had been lucky, couldn't have been more than ten years old and hiding underneath one of the huge slabs of fallen concrete that still remained from the bombing. Jonas didn't know how the kid got there or what he'd been doing before realizing the demons about, but at least he was safe now. That was more important.
There was another low snarl off in the distance, a sound Jonas recognized immediately. Another demon realized he was here. Good, let 'em come. The young paramedic's eyes went wide, and Jonas nodded towards the waiting ambulance. "Get him out of here." There was no question in his voice, but a command, and the girl didn't hesitate. Once he was sure they were out of harm's way, at least for the moment, he turned and headed back down to the shore, ax in hand. He doubted this would be the last demon he put out of its misery today.
