Put the horse before the cart
Who: Derrick and Elaine
When: 5:15 p.m.
Where: Elaine's trailer
Derrick had been sitting on the steps in front of Elaine's trailer since a little before five, a bag of fast food sitting beside him while he waited for Elaine to show up. Here he'd thought that maybe she'd be there early to get ready for him or something, but no. Her car wasn't even here. Just an empty driveway and a house that was quiet since Cow had stopped barking at him awhile ago. Good too, Derrick wasn't a fan of that dog -- or any dogs, he'd always been more of a cat person -- and he was pretty sure the collie knew it. Awhile ago he'd decided that it was because he usually smelled like blood. Today when he went in he would too because he'd been passing the time by taking little knicks out of his fingers to watch the drops well up before he muttered a child's spell and threw the hardened drops of blood at the squirrels that were running around. The drops got bigger and bigger the longer that he had to wait and when five twenty came he was about to pull out the bigger spells. He'd wanted to see Elaine back when he texted her, but oh no, no that hadn't happened. She hadn't even been paying attention to her phone if the wait he had to endure said anything. What was she so busy with that she couldn't take extra time to spend with him? She didn't work at either of her jobs and it wan't like she was still taking classes.
And no, spending time with friends or just by herself doing god only knew what didn't count. If Derrick wanted to see her and he wasn't busy then damnit, he was going to see her. He'd wait, he'd text her over and over again... he'd do whatever it took. Especially since it was the full moon and he wouldn't get what he wanted. She wouldn't even take the time out of her precious full moon night to spend in a tree so he had peace of mind knowing she was safe. He didn't think that he was asking for all that much. But apparently it was too much to even expect the girl to be on time when she didn't even have a lot of it left before she shed her skin and grew feathers.
Derrick didn't like the feathery thing. He tolerated it because Elaine was perfect otherwise, but he'd really have rather she had fur when she changed forms or that she didn't change them at all. Was it so much to ask that his girlfriend be a witch or psychic instead of a were? No, it wasn't, but apparently the world didn't want to -- Derrick's mini tirade stopped when he caught sight of the familiar car. His pensive frown faded to be replaced with an easy smile and, instead of jumping right to his feet, he stretched out languidly, running a hand through his hair before standing. When Elaine got close enough he swept her up in a hug before claiming the kiss he should've had hours before. "Someone's been a busy bird the past few days," Derrick teased when he let her go, picking the bag back up. "Got your food right here. Tame the beast whose barking inside that door and I'll even think about giving it to you without making you pay." Derrick stretched out a bit. "If I had a key then I'd have been able to save your McFlurry from its melted doom." Or if you'd been on time.
