Still feel the rainfall bouncing off my skin
Who: Eilidh and *OPEN*
When: Midday
Where: Clothing store
Eilidh had been in the Mortal Realm for several weeks and she felt as though she had not even made a dent in absorbing all of the information they had to offer. It seemed like every day when she woke up and headed out she was all-but assaulted with waves of new knowledge that even she wasn't able to absorb all at once. No these things took time, which so far as she knew she had an eternity of, and she was beyond thrilled with it. She hadn't lacked things to study or read at home, but she felt like she'd been getting close and here she had an entire history to comb through. The library had proven to be one of her favorite places, though she'd been most disappointed when they'd asked her politely to leave several nights in a row. Closing time was possible her least favorite thing. She didn't even understand the point of it. Wouldn't it be better if the doors were open all night so that everyone could seek knowledge whenever they found themselves in need of it?
Though today she wasn't seeking knowledge. Today she was seeking a warmer outfit. Eilidh knew that this was still technically summer, but it didn't feel like it to her. The rain had put a chill into her bones that wasn't helped by where she lived and, even though she'd never wish the rain gone!, people in this place seemed to get upset when you lit fires outside of designated sites. She'd been spoken to in a rather firm manner that she found condescending and amusing all at the same time by a man in a blue uniform when she'd built one along the river a few days after arriving. It didn't bother her that she'd broken one of their rules, or laws as he'd said, but it'd been irritating to be interrupted. If she could find one of those jackets she'd seen people wearing -- hoodies, she'd heard them called -- then she wouldn't have as much a need for them. Somewhere in the back of her mind a quiet voice, made quite by centuries of repression, chirruped that she'd not need warmer clothes if only she'd been born a regular fae who channel whatever magic was nearby to do what they needed. Clothes, all she needed was warmer clothes than what she had. For a few minutes she'd entertained the notion of just returning to her home in the Fair Realm, but she didn't want to go back only to have the gates close behind her again. Not only had she not made a real progress in that library or knowledge in general, but she hadn't met Fiona's descendant either. Eilidh couldn't leave without at least doing that.
Anyway, clothes! Eilidh was humming an old tune that her mother used to sing to herself as she looked through the options available in this store that smelled of cloth and many people. It seemed to be a clothing store and since she needed clothes it made the most sense to come here. True, she only had a few of the mortal's dollars, but she knew how to change them so they looked like they were worth much more. She'd figure out how much she needed once she'd found a hoodie. And she must have looked confused because a man had approached her and cleared his throat as she held up a dress that'd caught her eye. Eilidh had just done a little spin, giggling at how the material swished, when the throat-clearer interrupted her amazingly idle thought. "Is there anything that I can help you with, miss?"
Holding the dress tight to her chest, Eilidh turned and beamed brightly. Just because she didn't help didn't mean that she couldn't be pleased at being noticed and not ignored. "I'm just looking for something warm to wear. Don't worry, I'll be able to find it." That he may have approached her because she was dripping water all over the floor didn't even occur to her.
"If you need any help..." He paused and Eilidh blinked, a little confused. Was she supposed to know what he was going to say next? A trace of confusion appeared on his face for a moment before being chased away by a smile that Eilidh didn't think she liked. "Then just call for Ted and I'll be sure to give you all the help you need."
"Thank you, but as I said, I'm only looking." Did mortals dislike it when someone looked through their clothes? "I'll be fine." He was still standing there with that grin. "Why are you looking at me like that? Stop it." He looked surprised that she'd remarked on the look on his face. Oh no, was she being unusual without know it? "Please."
