ride up to your door
Who: Angeline and Locke
When: Late afternoon
Where: Moriarty place

Locke didn't want to leave his computer. He didn't want to leave the house either. Sure it still didn't feel quite like home, but that didn't mean it wasn't. People knew that he was here and this was how to get hold of him. People like a blue-haired guy who had told him to go away and hadn't said a word to him since. Yeah. That kinda got to him. Especially since yesterday there'd been that big explosion and no one had heard from him or his sisters... Locke didn't like jumping to the worst possible conclusion but he hadn't had to jump here. He'd taken a small step and all of the conclusions had found him. He couldn't even do his homework to take his mind off it because he'd done it all already. God but being a nerd who loved learning could be a pain in the ass sometimes. Usually just times like now when he wanted to lose himself in a menial task like math or history or an english paper. Teachers were getting awfully lax when they didn't give you enough homework to keep you occupied all day.

It wasn't until after noon, when he'd paced so much in the living room that Amelia had told him to stop before he wore a path right into the hardwood floor, that Locke remembered he had somewhere he could go to take his mind off things. Tall, lanky, blue-haired shaped things. Stop that! Locke ruffled his hair and tugged on a fresh tanktop before shouting at Amelia that he was going over to visit a friend. Then he stopped at the door and wondered why he had said 'friend' instead of 'girlfriend'. Angeline was his girlfriend, right? They were dating and she had taken him to that fancy party and everything. Yet the person that he kept thinking about when he went to - goddamnit he was not thinking about that. All he was thinking about was getting his bike out of the garage, climbing on and pedaling his way over to Angeline's. It was a nice, long ride and by the time he got there his hair was a little damp. He probably should have taken his time so that he was a little less gross, but hopefully Angelina wouldn't mind all that much. But damn her house was big. Swallowing hard, a little intimidated just by the house and other houses in the area, Locke propped his bike up and went to ring the doorbell. That was when it finally occurred to him that he probably should've called to make sure Angeline was actually here. If she wasn't then he guessed he could just go for a longer ride...

It really was lucky that Angeline could heal fast, otherwise she would probably be bedridden and on a lot of painkillers at the moment. Since her tailbone was more or less recovered, and any cuts and bruises were pretty much healed, she was in her suite's sitting area lounging on her own couch watching a movie. Because she had had enough of the news for now. She wondered when her father would be required to make a statement - because he would, no doubt - and whether or not she would have to appear more hurt than she was on television. Probably not.

Hearing the doorbell, Angeline raised her head in the noise's direction, but didn't move. The help was there to help and it would be helpful if someone who was actually downstairs opened the door. Minutes later she heard a knock on the door, and one of the aforementioned help stuck her head inside. "Miss Moriarty there is a young man named Locke downstairs for you."

Ah. And here she thought she was going to be disappointed in him for not even checking up on his own girlfriend. Then again maybe he'd been involved in the whole kerfuffle himself, which would be the only reasonable explanation for why he only tried to check on her now. "Send him up, I am in no fit state to go down those stairs." She was. But that was not the point. Angeline rearranged her position on the couch to appear a little more damaged, and put on a face to match.

Locke was definitely not used to having the door being answered by the maid. Or housekeeper, whatever they wanted to be called. He hadn't ever been rich enough to have one of them that he was aware of and even if he had been he wasn't sure he'd want one. They made him sort of uncomfortable. So when one answered the door and told him to wait a moment Locke listened, shoving his hands into his pockets before he shifted his weight awkwardly from foot to foot. The Landers were pretty rich too, they had an epic house, but they didn't have a housekeeper. He didn't get this awkward feeling when he went over there. Yeah sure his stomach would crawl and he'd get flushed but that wasn't because of the people who were there. Just one specific person with blue hair whose welfare he didn't know anything about since he wasn't talking to him because he was dating Angeline Moriarty. This is why life sucks. Locke was about to kick at the door when he was told to go ahead up the stairs to Angeline's room. The blond ducked his head and thanked the woman politely before going up the stairs a little slowly. He wasn't anxious about seeing Angeline, he just wasn't exactly sure what to say.

Poking his head in the door, Locke gave an awkward, gentle sort of smile and brought one hand up to wave before he stepped the rest of the way in. This wasn't like going into Bunny's room. He wasn't dating Bunny and hadn't ever kissed or wanted to kiss Bunny so there were some awkward feelings he didn't have to deal with around the were-cat. Angeline? Different story. "Hey Angeline," Locke greeted, bringing his hands out of his pockets. Now he didn't know what to do with them and they suddenly felt way too big, and kinda sweaty. He rubbed them on his jeans before crossing his arms so that he didn't need to worry about the hands-part anymore. Was she badly hurt? The way that she was laying made him wonder if she'd gotten hurt and he instantly felt awful for not calling or checking on her sooner. What sort of boyfriend was he? The sort that goes around kissing a guy behind her back? "You were at the march yesterday, weren't you? Did you get hurt bad?" Awkward. This was awkward. Locke took half a step forward. "I'm sorry I didn't call or anything, I've been worrying about everyone so my head's all over the place."

Angeline wasn't sure if this was one of those moments where she was supposed to play at a softer, nicer version of herself or not. On the other hand she had every right to be mad at Locke; he hadn't even tried to text her and he had to know that her father being who he was she had to have been at the march! When he poked his head inside her room and waved Angeline sighed, her arms crossed. "Hi." At least he looked awkward and on edge, which Angeline had to say she liked to see at the moment. "Yes, I was, obviously. And I hurt my tailbone, cut my feet on broken glass not to mention my eardrums aren't exactly in tip top condition either. So yes, I did get hurt." Oh, she was going to be mad. Maybe play up the 'you don't like me after all' angle a bit, to look a little less angry and more hurt.

"Probably not as bad as most, however. I am still alive." She retracted her legs reluctantly, making room for Locke on the couch. "Oh of course, understandable that your girlfriend wouldn't be a priority. So many more important people to worry about." She looked away, feigning a trembling lip. When she looked back there were tears in her eyes. "Not even a text, Locke!"

Ahhhh, no, no this was exactly what Locke hadn't wanted to go through. He didn't want Angeline hurt and he didn't want her to be upset with him. But what was he supposed to do? Text her like you're supposed to, that's what. Locke should've. He knew that he should've and as Angeline went on with how she'd obviously been there and hurt in multiple ways he just winced in on himself. "Sorry you got hurt," he muttered, scoffing his tennis shoe against the floor. Locke was sorry that a lot of people had gotten hurt, because a lot of people had. And he knew the reason that he hadn't texted or called Angeline. It wasn't because he didn't want to make sure that she was okay -- he did! -- it was just that he'd been that worried about Cole and the fact that the boy wasn't texting him back, taking his calls, returning his voicemails or any of it. It was enough to make a guy act a little weird. Only he couldn't go and tell Angeline that. He didn't imagine that it'd go over all that well.

"Angeline, don't be like that, you don't know what happened to the rest of my friends." It hurt to see the trembling lip and he wanted it to stop, but Locke wasn't just going to let her think that he didn't care at all. "My best friend, Bunny, she got impaled yesterday by a stop sign or something. She needed vampire blood to get through it and she's a were so she's supposed to be all tough. I didn't text anyone." Yes he had. Not Angeline. Why didn't I text her instead? She's a nice girl, she doesn't deserve this. Locke sighed and rubbed at his face before he stepped closer and took the spot on the couch that had been freed up even if it didn't feel like Angeline really wanted him there. "I'm really sorry that I didn't check on you, but you didn't check on me either. Phones do work both ways and it's totally not fair for you to go off on me if you're not even trying to check. Please don't cry... I'm here aren't I? I didn't go to see anyone else, I came to see you." He rubbed at the back of his neck again. "Really sorry." He should've gotten flowers or something. Yeah, but if he'd done that then Angeline wouldn't have been hurt at all. Flowers would still be good. Girls like flowers.

Right now Angeline really wanted Locke to just feel guilty, as guilty as he could muster. Nobody ignored Angeline Moriarty, especially not in a situation like this, and much less someone who was supposed to be her boyfriend. "Yes, thank you." As if that made up for it at all.

"Oh, right, your friends. I suppose they're so many and so much more important than your girlfriend that you didn't have time to text her out of everyone. If you really didn't text anybody then you're as bad a friend as you are a boyfriend! " Angeline narrowed her eyes as he talked about Bunny. Was the fact that she had needed vampire blood supposed to make Angeline feel sorry for her? "I needed vampire blood. My sister did too. We're both weres. So that excuse won't work on me, Locke. You could at least have mass texted everybody, anything would have been better than silence." She insisted, crossing her arms with a pout.

And then he had the gall to accuse her of not checking on him either. Angeline curled her hands into fists, but tried not to show just how angry she was. "Well I am sorry about that, I didn't even bring my phone with me! Then I was extremely worried about my sister, and my father - whom you might know is one of the biggest supernatural rights supporters in the world - almost had a heart attack! Not to mention that of course when we healed with vampire blood we were sort of..." She shrugged. "High. But if I had been alright I would have checked on you, Locke."

Finally he sat down with her, and Angeline was finally ready to liberate the tears. "Am I supposed to commend you for having the good sense to come see me one day after the accident, when I could very well be dead?" She looked away, sniveling. "You didn't even hug or kiss me or anything. God, Locke, it's almost as if you don't care at all! It isn't just the fact that my sister and I got hurt, it's what it does to all my father has worked for, and what I saw on that bridge!" A bird's eye view of it, of course, but he didn't need to know she and Domina had flown away before things got even more serious. "The whole not checking on me thing aside, I could really use some form of comfort right now and I cannot believe I'm having to bed for it!" She sniveled again, wiping the tears from her eyes.

Locke could do guilty. He could do guilty better than a lot of people because he'd seen some things that truly needed massive amounts of guilt. But he couldn't feel as guilty as Angeline seemed to want him to because he didn't think he'd done everything wrong. More than one of his friends had gotten hurt, and Bunny had been the worst off of all of them. She'd gotten a pole through her! Locke just... he didn't know what to say or feel, but he didn't like getting lectured like this. Hadn't he gone through enough this last month? Hadn't his adopted parents been torn apart by demons? Didn't he have a family of vampires who still wanted revenge on him for what had happened in his last life? The only thing that really mattered out of those two was the one about his parents. He still didn't know how he was supposed to handle that one, definitely not on top of everything else. "Okay." Was his voice as dull as he thought it was? Locke felt resigned. He definitely wasn't giving the most major reason he hadn't paid pretty much any attention yesterday. Angeline probably wouldn't be happy with him saying that he'd locked himself up and ignored the world because Cole had told him to fuck off.

What was he supposed to do now? Hug her? She had just tried to make him feel a few inches tall and she wanted him to comfort her? 'Awkward' didn't even cover how Locke was feeling right now. He was starting to wish that he'd just called because it'd have been easier. And that's why I didn't. Because I don't actually deserve easier. He didn't. He knew that. He deserved this. The phoenix just didn't like it and he didn't think that he had to. There was no rule anywhere that said he needed to enjoy getting himself into awkward situations. Actually, he was pretty sure that there was a rule that said he needed to dislike it and suck it up and deal anyhow. "I'm sorry, Angeline, I'm not good at any of this. I'm still trying to get over what happened with my parents and everything's sort of happening on the outside right now. That's why I didn't even go to the march. I am sorry." He tried to smile and shifted, sliding his arm around her shoulders carefully. "Do you want to talk about it?" Listening was something that he could definitely do.

Angeline had no way to read minds, obviously, but she would have been pleased to know that Locke wasn't enjoying this and felt belittled and at least a bit guilty. It was what she had gone for, and Angeline liked to know when she succeeded. When he pulled the "my parents are dead" card Angeline sort of caught fire on the inside, but on her face there was nothing but sadness. Presumably for him. True, she had forgotten his parents had just died, but one thing had nothing to do with the other and she disliked immensely to be ignored for dead people anyway. "I understand." She didn't. At all, not one bit. You had to learn to compartmentalize your life, otherwise what hope was there for anything but chaos? Not that she didn't like chaos, Angeline just didn't think it was something people ought to just allow inside their heads.

When Locke wrapped his arm around her shoulders she leaned against him, sighing. "I don't know what to say, it was all so sudden. One second we're walking, the other I'm falling, crying for my sister, trying to fly away...I mean of course you'd think we would have stayed, but she was in such bad shape I couldn't just let her go on her own and stay behind to help strangers, you know?" There had not been any sort of inner conflict about the decision, staying behind to help was never an option, but Locke didn't need to know that. "It was so scary and confusing. And now my dad's devastated, all he's got to be thankful for is that we're weres and managed to get some vampire blood, otherwise we'd still be really hurt. But his cause, you know? Our cause. All the people we stand for, attacked like that." It was really infuriating and Angeline could only think that if she was in any position of actual power she would wage war on those cowardly anti-supernatural people. Show them who they were really messing with, never mind public opinion.
