Skin and skin, blood and bone
Who: Telyn, Jonas and Selena
Where: Site of epic shenanigans (aka the bridge)
When: Shortly after the bombing
What: Everyone has a job to do. Telyn just doesn't realize who everyone is just yet.

They made it out of the fire house in record time after they got the call about the bombing. Telyn was in the back of the truck, grateful not to be driving. Adam hadn't mentioned plans about going to the march, but the idea that maybe he had for research or something made her heart ache. She sent him a quick text message and held her breath as she waited for the reply, Lucky standing on alert in front of her as they zoomed through the streets, sirens blaring. She didn't know what the scene was going to look like but she knew there were people out there who needed her help. The driver shouted back an ETA to her, which she relayed over the radio. Who would bomb a march like that? It didn't make sense. She worried about finding her boyfriend there, but she didn't have time to worry about anything else other than doing her job.

The text back came and she breathed a sigh of relief. Now she could completely focus. They were one of the first trucks on the scene and she hoped out, surveying the chaos. One of the officers directed her and Jonas towards a pile of rubble and the body parts sticking out of it. Lucky stayed in the truck, ready to jump at a moment's notice to help them look for anyone who was trapped. Telyn jogged over to the pile and knelt near one young woman, who was unconscious, blood on her head. Her arm was trapped under a rather large piece of concrete. "Jonas!" she called, turning to him. "Help me with this. We need a gurney over here!" The last part was to anyone who was near by. Fortunately an ambulance had arrived close to them. "Her pulse is weak," she said, looking over at the angel beside her.

No matter how old he was, nothing could prepare Jonas for destruction on this level. He'd seen it at Pearl Harbor, and in other battles in World War II, but still, he'd hoped never to see it again. Especially not so close to the place he now called home, where people he knew - and his granddaughter knew - could be hurt in the process. It didn't stop Jonas' first reaction, however, and that was to jump in the truck and get to the scene. It wasn't exactly honor that demanded he help out, but it was certainly part of it. He was an angel and he couldn't walk away from this even if he wanted to. His place was here, now, until his body wouldn't let him do anything more to help those injured and dying beneath the ruins.

Of course, there was a few other bonuses, if one wanted to think of it in that respect. Jonas could keep an eye on Telyn and make sure that he wasn't hurt, and he knew Selena was here too. Having the two of them close instantly made him feel better, even if he never admitted that to anyone else. Selena would know, anyway, she always did. Jumping out of the truck, he followed Telyn to the woman she'd found first, unconscious and in desperate need of medical attention. "Selena!" he called, waving to the woman who was now coming over to them. "We need you over here!" Then he turned to the concrete that had fallen on her. It looked heavy, but he might be able to lift it once Selena gave the okay.

It was amazing how certain people never got used to certain things. Selena had been very close to Pearl Harbor when it had been attacked, she had seen the destruction and what it had done to people first hand, and yet here and now she was staring at the scenery with the same heavy heart that had affected her all those decades ago.

The good part was, she was able to snap out of it in record time. Just as soon as she started running in Jonas' direction, he was calling her. "I'm here." She knelt beside the unconscious woman, trying to look under the concrete to see the state of her arm beneath it. "Doesn't look like it punctured any vessels, I don't see any bleeding. It might be crushed - actually it almost certainly is - but at least she won't bleed out when you remove this thing." She turned to Telyn. "She needs her arm stabilized though, I'm no x-ray machine but I think there's bone fragments all over the place and there might be many treacherous little shards." That should suffice, thankfully Selena did not feel surrounded by idiots - which had been known to happen throughout her long arduous professional life.

It was almost worse that she could have imagined. There was so much noise. All she could smell was smoke and if she looked around too long, she would lose the control she had. Telyn hated that so many people are injured. But she needed to help them. And she couldn't do that if she let herself get too wrapped up. One job at a time.

Telyn watched the EMT, not having met her yet. She seemed nice enough but now wasn't really the time to heart to hearts and finding out what she was like. Not bleeding out was a good thing. The elemental looked over at Jonas. "Can you help me lift this?" Her eyes flicked back over the woman, Selena. "Are we good to move it?"

In times like these, there was something inside him that almost shut down, keeping the emotional response that wanted to get out of him at bay. It wasn't easy, but he would deal with all this later - preferably once he and Selena were both home. They'd helped each other through times like this before, and it was sad that they had to do it again. Of course, getting Selena to leave when her charges were here would be next to impossible... but Jonas would deal with that later. Right now there was a job at hand and people to save and he didn't want anyone else to die if he could help it.

"I can move it," he said. Jonas was, after all, quite a bit stronger than his granddaughter, and he didn't want her anywhere near it in case his grip slipped and they had to make some evasive maneuvers. "Telyn, help Selena. As soon as you've got her arm stabilized, then I'll move this." He knew that, in saying Telyn's name, it would click with Selena. It had to. He met the other angel's eyes and for half a second, there was something like a smile there. Selena, love, meet your granddaughter.

Selena particularly liked her own ability to tune out anything else when she was working. Her focus almost drowned out her senses and she became all about work. It was, after all, all about saving lives! "Inflate the arm cast." She told the blonde girl. "As soon as he lifts it we have to put her arm in it. We have to move it the least amount we possibly can though." She turned to Jonas and nodded, making a face. "This is as good as it's gonna get, we can't put the cast on her with that thing over it." Not that it mattered, they would probably amputate the arm anyway, unless there were some good bone reconstruction surgeons at the hospital. Hopefully there were.

She had missed the girl's name when Jonas first said it, but as she and the girl Jonas had called Telyn put the inflatable cast around the woman's arm, trying not to have it wobble unnaturally as it was bound to do, Selena had time to understand what Jonas had said. She raised her head, blowing her curls off her face. "Wait what did you call her?"

She wished she would have been able to separate herself from the situation emotionally like they had. It was hard and just the smell of everything, the bomb residue, the blood... the screams and cries of pain. It was so overwhelming for her and she wanted to crawl back into bed and pretend this had never happened. But she couldn't and with that knowledge, along with a little prayer, pushed her to do what was being asked of her in that moment.

Telyn inflated the cast and knelt there, waiting for further instructions. She would get through this day and she would help people. It was what she was supposed to do, what she wanted to be doing. She was so focused she nearly missed the question. Turning, her ponytail moved over her shoulder. "My name is Telyn. You're Selena?" She didn't know if the woman was new, being that she'd been going for a while, but it didn't matter. Now probably wasn't the time for small talk, though a voice in her head told her that it might help her from completely freaking out over the situation at hand.
