Such wonderful things around you
Who: Bea and Charlene
Where: By the river
When: After sunset
One funny looking shell that she had found at the lake that had taken far too long to walk to; three funny bottle-like things that were made out of the same thing as windows - glass - instead of plastic like the ones she had found full of water before and they had colorful labels on them; something that she thought might have been an umbrella once but now it was missing the protective covering part and then a very rusty circle that she thought might have been a coin that the landwalkers referred to as money. Shells and rocks were pretty, she had no idea why people would want to go through all the effort of making these silly circles and then the rectangle papers for money instead of just using what was already there. They could be the most ridiculous creatures on the planet. Oh, no, that was sharks. Sharks were ridiculous and only cared about that one thing even though they had potential to be way more dangerous than they already were, Charlene was sure of it. Just like she was sure that her collection was going to impress even her sister soon. Except for the things made of glass. Nixie disliked things that were obviously human and out of the four types of things she had gathered over the course of the day they were the ones most likely to get that disapproving look. And Charlene had been over that look since she had started getting it when her sister had found out that she was dating a were.
Charlene shrugged those thoughts out and started chipping away at the rust covering the circle, wanting to see if it really was some sort of coin or just a messy thing that she wanted absolutely no part of. If it was the latter then she was throwing it over her shoulder and letting it be taken away by the river to wherever it was that it ended up going. Nixie's head? Charlene snickered at herself before dipping back down in the water and then back up. Though she had gotten very used to spending prolonged periods of time out of the water she did not like feeling any measure of dry when she was in her natural form and at least half-immersed in the water. There was a splashing sound behind her that made the mermaid turn her head, only to spot a turtle lifting its head back up. "Hello," she trilled, not at all bothered that the turtle would not speak back. There were times, like right then, when she missed the company of dolphins and whales. More the whales than the dolphins, but even dolphins would be better than the silly fish around here who never spoke. It would have been nice to be able to relax and listen to a whale sing her to sleep on those nights when Roxy was staying home and she was in the river and by herself. Something that had never bothered her before, but since meeting the pink-haired woman it had started to become more and more evident that she did not like being alone. Sometimes she even wished that Nixie would still share her boat instead of using that one she and Imogen - what happened to her? I miss the bear... - had sunk.
"And that is when I know that I just need to stop wallowing," the mermaid informed herself, flicking her tail before focusing in on chipping away the labels on the bottles. If they were just glass then there was nothing wrong with them. Oh! She could fill them with colorful sand! As soon as she figured out how exactly to make sand colored...
