never been more excited or terrified
Who: Faith and Frankie
Where: Faith and Frankie's house
When: Early evening
Finally. Frankie was in America – Michigan to be precise. She was also in a fit of anxiety. It had been just over three weeks since the last time she had seen Faith; not a great amount of time, but it was the longest that she had ever spent away from the other woman since she met her. It didn't help that Faith had stopped taking her calls a couple days ago. Frankie knew that she was angry with her, if only for the fact that she refused to call her back and sent her texts instead; Faith knew how much trouble she had with text messaging. Truth be told, Frankie couldn't blame her. She hadn't meant to miss Faith's birthday, it just sorta happened. 'I lost my passport' seemed like a flimsy excuse for someone who was as seasoned a traveler as Frankie. But she was here now and absolutely terrified that when she saw Faith again there wouldn't be much of a warm welcome awaiting her. The second she entered the airport lobby, Frankie turned on her phone. No messages. Her stomach dropped, just like it did every time she checked it and there was nothing waiting for her. She took a deep breath and dialed Faith's number. Nothing but ringing; she really despised the sound of ringing. At the tone, Frankie left her message: “Hey... I'm here. Um... I guess I'll see you later tonight.” Why were her palms sweating? She didn't like worry – she didn't do worried. She punched in a new number as she took another deep breath, this one meant to brace herself for the conversation to come. “Hello?” “Hey mom, I made it.” “Finally.” “Don't start. I told you what happened.” “Mhmm. Is Faith picking you up at the airport?” “....She didn't answer her phone.... I can just take a taxi. It's no big deal.” There was an obvious pause and Frankie could practically hear all the things her mother wanted to say, but wouldn't because she had said them a hundred times before. “Call me in the morning, yeah?” “Yeah. Love you.” She waited for her mother to say goodbye and hung up the phone. Frankie loved her mother, but she was glad that Adeila didn't start in on her again. For the past few weeks it seemed that every time she spoke to her mom she was being chewed out for not being in Scarlet Oak with Faith, just like it seemed that every time she spoke to Faith she could hear the other woman grow more and more angry. Frankie was tired of everyone being upset with her. She couldn't really remember the cab ride over to the house, much like the trip on the plane. It was the oddest thing: standing in front of her home and feeling as though it didn't belong to her. Her limbs felt weak as she carried all of her things to the front door. Should I knock? Frankie decided to try the handle. Under normal circumstances, she wouldn't have been bothered by the fact that it was unlocked, but Faith had just taken on a lamiae and gotten herself bitten. The door popped open without a sound and Frankie carefully entered, setting her things beside the doorway. “Doc?” Frankie called out into the quiet house. “I'm home.” |
