It's breaking ice just to make a new movement
Who: Cheila and Rina
Where: Lenore's
When: Early afternoon
Rina had never liked money and that was something that had not changed since she had been away from Earth. She sort of liked the color of the American money, though the fact that all of the bills were the same color was a little confusing. But they all had those numbers on the corners that said how much they were worth so she supposed that made it fairly easy. And it was apparently not worthless. Well, money had never actually been worthless, but it had been pretty close when she was younger and in Germany. Before the war had come. And after that she had not been able to pay much attention to what it was or was not worth because she was busy trying to keep people alive. But now, now she nothing to worry about for the entirety of an afternoon and she was going to attempt to take advantage of it. Attempt being the keyword because already she found herself wondering how Darklis was, if she was worrying about upcoming school and all that it meant, and when her mind was not there it was drifting to the memories that she had of that dark-haired woman in the magic shop with her talking lobster familiar who Trouble had thought was funny. 'Everyone's funny.' Rina had tried, she had honestly tried, to leave the small cat at home, but she had insisted on tagging along. And by insisted, Rina really meant that Trouble had slipped into the purse that she had taken only to use for holding the money Darklis had given her. Now it was holding the money and a miniaturized cat. 'In their own way. Even you. Definitely Darklis.' Good to see that the familiar had no hard feelings after being dunked in the sink yesterday.
It was a little hard to walk through Scarlet Oak with all of its people without wincing in on herself whenever someone looked her way. Not because Rina believed that anyone was out to hurt her, although she knew that should she come across a demon that would likely be the case, but rather because she was not used to being around so many people all at once. One of the reasons she had been so glad to have a place to stay was because it meant that she had a place to close herself up in when the rest of the world was too much. And here, among all these people, she kept getting glimpses of people who belonged to her. That man who had just gotten into his car to drive away kept his thoughts to himself, dark thoughts that needed to be let out before they exploded or drove him mad. And that little girl who was stepping funny to avoid every step in the sidewalk, well she was certain that if she ever stepped on one her mother's back would really break and on top of that she had to skip every fifth step or else something terrible would happen to her big brother and it filled her with such worry that Rina's heart- 'RINA!' The angel jerked her head back and blinked down at her purse, giving an apologetic smile. "Sorry Trouble, there are just so many, I forget what it's like to be around them. Maybe we should take a break?" She had seen a lot of people carrying things that looked like glasses, taking drinks from them, and they seemed to enjoy it. A lot of them were coming out of that shop - Lenore's Cafe and Bookstore - and it looked like they sold books too. She had meant to look at the history books so that she could catch up and not get weird looks when she missed out on really obvious things that everyone else knew.
'You should get a latte! With cream on the top, which I will then totally lick off for you so you don't have to worry about it!'
"You don't seem like the best person to make recommendations," Rina muttered in reply, not noticing that to anyone else it may just look like she was talking to thin air. That it was not normal to have a small cat in one's purse was known to her, but she somehow did not make the connection between the fact that her talking to Trouble while the cat was out of sight would make her look like she was talking to herself. "I remember what you did with the cake." Stepping in through the door, Rina was pleased to see that it was pretty empty inside and that there was only one other person in line. Stepping up behind them she glanced up at what she assumed to be the menu... and felt like she had been floored. So many choices! The last time that she had gotten coffee from a store it had been just that; coffee. The list she was seeing here involved lattes, cappuccinos, frappes... flavored coffee? Rina was aware that she looked a little dazzled when she stepped up and she gave the young man behind the counter a confused sort of smile. "Sorry, I've just... umm... I usually just drink coffee? Do you have a recommendation?" It seemed that something called a 'mocha' was recommended so she ordered that and proceeded to fumble with the bills she had been given before shoving the one with a '10' on it into his hand. He was radiating a mix of confusion and amusement and Rina was not altogether sure that she liked that. Her face was heating up as she slid down to the end to wait, one hand having slid into her purse so that she could pet Trouble and pretend that that had not been awkward at all.
