You're only just a dreamer
Who: Danica and Lumi
Where: UofM hospital
When: Eeeearly morning
Double shift. It was not the first time that Lumi had pulled one, not by a long shot, and it was not going to be the last but every time that it happened she was just that much more tired by the time she was halfway through the second one. And in serious need of caffeine. On her way down to the maternity ward, she was supposed to be covering for one of the night/morning nurses who had caught a cold, she swung by the nurses station to top up her coffee. Being sleepy when dealing with the newborns was never a good idea. Though at least she was not sick. Sick nurses could not be around the little ones or their mothers. Stifling another yawn, Lumi shuffled her way down, picking up the clipboard to skim over the information. Looked like the Anderson baby was doing better, good, and hey. Mrs. Kim had come in and it looked like she was going to deliver her baby naturally and on time after all. Not that she was really surprised, she had known it was going to happen, it was just good to see it affirmed. She liked the Kim's and was glad that they had been able to get through all of their problems. Hopefully they would have a nice, healthy baby. They deserved it.
"Hey Dr. Harris," Lumi said brightly as she caught sight of him filling out some paperwork. The circles under his eyes were getting worse. Looked like he was not taking the advice given about getting more sleep and letting the new doctor take a few more shifts. Dr. Harris did have a problem with being a little too controlling and she doubted that he was going to be one of those people who took to the news that he needed to retire well. Lumi was so glad that it was not her job to ever tell anyone that. She would not be able to, her heart would break if they looked sad or anything like that. "You look like you need a bit more sleep. Need any more of that tea I gave you a few weeks back? It's no problem to make." One thing Lumi liked doing even more than helping people was making sure that her co-workers were taken care of. A few protection spells here and there along with some herbal teas that no one but a witch could make never hurt anyone. Helped them actually. Even if there were people like Dr. Harris who needed double and triple doses of everything.
"Thanks Lumi, but I've still got nearly a quarter of what you gave me left. Not that big a tea drinker. What're you doing in maternity? I thought you were night shift upstairs."
"I was, but someone called in sick so I'm helping out here before I go home."
"And you say I need sleep."
Shrugging, Lumi grinned, sliding her pen into the pocket of her scrubs before turning to start her rounds. "I'm younger than you," she tossed over her shoulder.
