Who: Cael, Leon, and Viuly
Where: Almasy household
When: Early morning
Note: Incomplete
Spending all of yesterday in bed with Cael was heaven for Viuly. So much to catch up on, both physically and emotionally. Not once did anything else in her life blip on her radar. She was just happy he was back. Though the second Cael asked her if she would go with him back to his house? Well then, that was one way to drop a shit ton of bricks onto her head. Viuly couldn’t say no, but at the same time, she absolutely loathed the inevitable. She knew Cael didn’t want to face his family without her, even though Viuly very much wanted to curl up in a box and die at this point. Not only was Cael back, but so was his twin brother. You know, the twin brother she fucked senseless the day before he came back.
Viuly was completely convinced that Cael was dead when she kindled that little fire with Leon. What the fuck were the chances of this? Seriously. She had no idea how Cael was going to react. Actually, he didn’t even know what was going on, so she probably should have feared more of what Leon was going to do. But if Leon reacted, then that meant Cael was going to find out, and she knew far too well what happened last time Leon touched a girl that belong to Cael. You don’t fucking belong to anyone, Viuly reminded herself while sitting in the car with Cael, idly staring out the window. She played with her hair as she waited for them to reach the house and even when they finally did, she just sat there, heart racing out of control.
“Looks like your dad is home,” she muttered, spotting Cid’s car over her sunglasses. As was Leon. His motorcycle wasn’t the same one he had in the past, so she prayed Cael wouldn’t recognize it. God, she just wanted this to be over with. With a sigh, she reluctantly slipped on out of the car and walked over to Cael’s side to join him.
Maybe Cael should have noticed the motorcycle, but he was expecting his father and no one else. The last time he’d seen his brother, Leon had been leaving town with no return address to speak of. Cael always thought he’d see him again, but he didn’t think now would be it. Why would Leon move back home, after all? It was the last thing on his mind. Dealing with his father was a much bigger issue.
“Yeah,” Cael said, his hand slipping into Viuly’s. “I tried to call, but it’s not really the kind of thing you leave on an answering machine.” The military had told him everything that had gone down-- that he’d been reported Missing In Action, and then finally pronounced dead. He couldn’t really leave his father a message that it wasn’t true, not after there’d been a funeral and everything, so it would have to be in person. While he was sure his father would be thrilled, it was not a moment Cael was looking forward to. In the back of his mind, he knew his homecoming would stir up other issues that he would rather not deal with.
“Thanks for coming with me,” he said, smiling down at Viuly as he squeezed her hand. This was so much easier to handle with her there beside him. This was how it should always be, and hopefully he could make sure of that.
The way Cael squeezed her hand just made Viuly blush gently. He always had a way of charming her. Had to be the whole gentleman thing he had going on, topped off with knowing he was a military officer. It was just a bundled package of hotness. Yet it wouldn’t be enough to distract her from what they were about to face. She couldn’t stop thinking about Leon and what was going to happen now. Hell, she played out the scene a hundred times in her head and each one didn’t have a happy ending... except the first one, where it ended in a threesome, but oh good god, no. That wasn’t going to happen in the history of ever. So instead she tried to smile back at Cael and leaned in to kiss his shoulder to give him that extra support her needed. He was going to need it.
Leon was up early, in the kitchen making coffee. His head was currently throbbing, something he attributed to his empathy and not the shots of tequila he’d had the night before. He knew what a hangover felt like, and he wasn’t anywhere near that point. With the threat of demons about, he’d actually stayed home for most of the weekend, per Cid’s decision, not his own, and being around his crazy ass father for any long period of time wasn’t good for anyone. How Selphie managed, Leon had no idea, and he wasn’t going to figure it out either.
Knowing vaguely where Cid and Selphie were in the house, Leon was going to enjoy the few moments of peace and quiet while he still had them. Still, he didn’t expect to hear the door to the front door open, and the soldier in him instantly tensed. No one he knew should be coming here now - the idea that Cael might still be alive never even registered. Leaving his coffee cup on the counter, Leon fingered the pistol tucked into the back of his pants - with demons around, one couldn’t be too careful, though he did still prefer his sniper rifle - and went to go see who it was.
Busy minds. Cael could hear busy minds in the house, as well as one very busy mind behind him. Right now they were just murmurs, a soft buzzing that he silently willed to go away. He couldn’t deal with a migraine right now, and he really couldn’t deal with hearing what might be going on in his father’s head. The man was crazy enough without access to his mind; Cael was pretty sure that listening in might drive him mad himself. Swallowing back the annoying buzz, Cael focused on what he’d actually say to the man. He hadn’t figured that part out yet, instead just praying that he didn’t give his father a heart attack. “Hello?” he called out as he shut the front door behind them.
If Leon hadn’t been prepared for someone to walk into his house like they owned the place, he sure as hell wasn’t expecting someone to call out. And, no matter how many years it had been, no matter what, Leon would always know that voice. Cael. But it couldn’t be possible - Cael was dead. Cid even offered to take him to where they’d buried his twin. Leon hadn’t gone, something about that being too surreal to even think about facing. His hand didn’t leave the gun, half-convinced someone was playing a trick on him, walking the short distance from the kitchen to the foyer.
It was akin to looking in a mirror - yes, his twin was here, hair shorter than his, but still the same as the last time they’d seen each other. Leon’s brow furrowed in disbelief, and then he caught sight of the redhead behind him. Why was Viuly here, of all people? “Cael?” If this was a demon playing some sort of trick on him it would be dead before it drew another breath.
Seeing that no one was dead in the past ten seconds, Viuly was calling this a success so far. Knowing her luck, it wouldn’t last long. She looked back and forth between the two brothers and they took each other in. All she could do was remain silent, something that didn’t come naturally to the fire elemental, but she did her best. Her hand never left Cael’s, squeezing it some more this time around. Yes, she knew Leon was still alive and so on, but he didn’t. This was one that Cael could find out on his own. How exactly this was going to go over was beyond Viuly, but she had more tricks up her sleeves than both the boys, so she liked to think she had an advantage. Here was hoping she wouldn’t have to do such a thing. Last thing she wanted to worry about was her curse triggering.
“Leon.” It had never occurred to Cael that his brother might be home. Last they’d seen each other, he’d taken off to the middle of nowhere, leaving no contact information, no way to even let his brother know he was going to be shipped off again. Cael suspected that Leon, like everyone else, thought he was dead, but then Cael had worried the same about his twin. The only doubt he’d had was that he always thought he’d feel it, that if someone tried to rip Leon from this earth, Cael would know the second he left it. He’d never had such a feeling, and thus determined his brother might be alive, but couldn’t confirm it till now.
Why was Viuly here--- No, no, no. Cael didn’t want to hear anything more than what was spoken aloud, but the formation of thoughts was coming with the stress of the moment. For some reason, his mind related telepathy to stressful situations. Then again, that made sense. It had saved his life in such a way. But then it sometimes came at other times, gone when he needed it most. He didn’t not want it interfering right now. “I was captured and held prisoner. I just got home.” Well, a couple of days ago, but those didn’t matter by comparison.
To Leon, Cael had only “died” a few weeks ago, when he finally heard the news. He’d known there’d be things he’d missed, being gone for so long, but it had never occurred to him that he’d come back to find his twin was dead. Like Cael, he’d always thought he’d know if something like that happened. As close as he could tell, he’d died when Leon had been lying comatose in a Mexican hospital bed. Out of reflex, his hand went up to his hair to trace the ridge of his scar for a second before dropping back to his side.
It didn’t help that he could feel the emotions coming off both of them. He could feel the stress in Cael - and that Viuly was reassuring his twin. The fuck was going on here? Leon kept his eyes on Cael for a second. “Prisoner, for three fucking years?” Well shit. Cael even had Leon beat in the “bad shit that happened to them” department. “Glad to see you home, though.” And he was. Regardless of whatever happened, that was the truth. Leon didn’t wish harm on his twin. Ever.
Then he looked at Viuly, that fire behind his eyes just growing. “And you want to tell me what’s going on here?” Because last he knew, Viuly was his. Not his brother’s.
Cael’s eyes followed the movement of Leon’s hand, the flash of a memory sliding through his mind and out again. What had happened to Leon? Cael was curious, worried out of instinct and a bond that went beyond blood. Before he could ask, Leon was asking him a question, and Cael realized he was losing focus far too quickly. He’d become good at controlling his emotions by the time he was rescued, but that was something entirely different. It wasn’t personal, whereas this was as personal as it got. “Yeah, three years,” he confirmed, swallowing back the terror before it could take hold. Of everything, that was not needed in this discussion, especially with the thoughts radiating off his brother so loud that were impossible to ignore. MINE. He looked to Viuly, eyes wide, hurt, angry, and confused. He had to be reading that wrong. Please God, let me be wrong.
Look at that, they weren’t killing each other. Viuly liked to think that this was a success, up until Leon’s eyes just stared at her and now she was under the gun. She didn’t like that feeling. Leon should have known that better than anyone else, being a fire elemental himself. Firing questions in her direction was just grounds for getting snapped at. She did, however, release Cael’s hand, only to fold her arms against her chest as she shot back that same look to Leon. “What? It’s not obvious enough that Cael’s back? Do you need me to be Vanna White and spell it out for you?” Viuly’s best defense: sarcasm. She wasn’t stupid - she knew what Leon was asking for and that look Cael was giving her? Not helping. Right now, she wanted to curl up into a corner and die. They were not both suppose to be in her life. Not like this.
This? This hurt. More than she could ever put into words. She was terrified of what was going to happen. Would one of them leave her? Would both leave her? Would a fight break out over her? One had over Lumi and she liked to think the bitch was not worth it. Viuly loved both of them. She genuinely did. And for different reasons. It wasn’t like she was wishing Leon was more like Cael or vice versa. She felt like she needed both of them in her life and- WOW. You are such a fucked up person. Shit does NOT work like that. Of course Viuly could never get her way. She never had in life. Heaving out a sigh, she averted her gaze, not wanting to stare into Leon’s eyes like that anymore. ...I’m sorry. I’m such a fuck up.
It took everything in Cael not to open up the earth and let it swallow one of them whole-- possibly the only thing holding him back was the decision of who. Viuly’s thoughts stuck in him like daggers, opening old wounds and creating new ones. He’d lost a Theiss to his brother before and it had damaged his relationship with Leon permanently, despite the fact that neither of them would lay a hand on Lumi ever again. But Viuly... she loved him. still. Loved both of them. And as much as Cael wanted to comfort her for the thoughts running through her head, he couldn’t, not when he was struggling with the issue himself.
“Oh, so the moment Cael comes back you drop me as if I don’t mean shit to you, is that how this works? Last I knew he didn’t even like you, much less-” The pain spiked behind Leon’s eyes, and he couldn’t finish the sentence. Cael loved Viuly and he could feel it. Viuly loved Cael too - and she loved Leon. Both of them. And to top it off, he could feel the shift in Cael’s emotions, the one that said he was thirty seconds away from flipping out and losing his shit. Leon was not about to let Cael beat the crap over him over another lying Theiss girl. Fuck that, Lumi had been a mistake and the lying bitch all but ruined his life for it. Thanks to his empathy, Leon didn’t know what he was supposed to feel, unable to pick out his own emotions thanks to being overwhelmed by theirs.
Had Viuly not been a fire elemental, she would have easily shrunk back into a corner and collapse. Hell, that felt like a better option than what she had to face right now, but she and Leon had a bit of history when it came to fighting with words. She still felt Cael’s eyes on her, which didn’t make it any better, but right now, she tried not to focus on him. Right now? All eyes were on Leon and it didn’t help that there was a furious flicker swarming in them.
And when Viuly was mad, she screamed. “Cael happened to be the one who picked me up and mended me back together when YOU decided to drop me four fucking years ago!” A couple sparks crackled around her body, but she ignored them as she stepped past Cael and faced Leon. “You left because you didn’t give a fuck about anyone but your sorry self! Cael left because he was fighting for our fucking country!” She could have gone on with the reasons, but she stopped for now. Besides, if she yelled any longer, objects would begin levitating and flying around and eventually crashing. Shit, that hadn’t happened since she was kicked out of the house four years ago. And here she thought she had her telekinesis under control.
“Last. you. knew.” Cael’s words came through clenched teeth, fury lacing every word as he glared at his brother. Leon would have known how Cael loved Viuly if he hadn’t run off to fuck knows where-- he was sure it was a good story, but not one Cael was in the mood to hear. In fact, what he’d really like was a quiet, dark room where all he had was his own thoughts to sort through. The pain was so intense his vision was starting to blur, every beat of his heart pounding in his ears, but he refused to leave the conversation. He would stay even if it killed him; he would not run away. There was more that needed to be said. “You love him. You... You,” his attention turned from Viuly to Leon, but he struggled with words. His brother was struggling with something just as much as he was, but it confused him. Maybe both their minds were scrambled. “It’s different this time.” This wasn’t Lumi. This wasn’t based on a lie.
Stubbornness might not have technically been an emotion, but Leon could almost feel it. Cael wasn’t going to walk away from this and neither was he. If Viuly thought she could fuck with both of them and think the other wouldn’t find out about it, then she was going to learn about that the hard way. “NONE of you have any fucking clue about why I left,” and he wasn’t going to go into it, either. The pain was only getting more intense as Viuly’s emotions spiked too, and he squeezed his eyes shut for a moment, hand going up to hold his head, like it would do anything to stop it. “And you know damn well how long I’ve been back. In all that time, you could tell me that my twin was FUCKING DEAD, but not that you were fucking him before that?” Because if Cael and Viuly had always been together, then maybe Leon would have thought twice about it. But he didn’t. Viuly kept him in the dark. Led him on. It wasn’t like he’d ever been shy about how he felt about her, and in all the years they’d known each other, that hadn’t changed.
This was quickly turning into a screaming match and Viuly had no problem with that. Would help her release some of the pent up rage inside of her. No fire elemental was ever short on that. “I thought he was dead, Leon! IT DIDN’T FUCKING MATTER IN MY MIND.” Granted, it did, seeing even if Cael was dead, there was still Liam to explain. This just made everything worse. Every part of her body ached and now Viuly was beginning to shake. A few items that were on display in the house were even starting to shake as well. This wasn’t going to end well. And as any delayed reaction worked, she paused to look over her shoulder and set her eyes on Cael. ...did he just call me out? But how? That absolutely boggled her mind. She didn’t know what to say to Cael to make things better. Shit, she obviously couldn’t say anything to Leon without fucking it up again. Her lips parted, then instantly closed as she looked away from both of them. I can’t say a damn fucking thing right. They’re both going to leave me. She scoffed to herself. I deserve it at this point.
“I would ask why you left, but now doesn’t seem like the time,” Cael pointed out. No, he had no clue as to why his brother had left, and he’d always wondered if he would ever see him again when he was suddenly gone. After he got called away, he wondered if he’d see anyone again. Now he was back and it was turning out to be far more complicated than the years he’d spent in torture. At least he’d been able to figure out what his captures wanted out of him. This was far more difficult. “You were out of the picture,” he told Leon. “I wasn’t trying to--” Cael squeezed his eyes shut, pressing one hand to his ear. It didn’t help his migraine as he’d hoped, nor did it clarify what were thoughts and what were not. What he did know was that what he was hearing from Viuly she would never be saying aloud. “Stop, stop, fucking STOP!” His voice raised to a shout as he looked between them, dizzy with the pain that pressed in behind his eyes. “We’re not going to leave you,” he told Viuly, then looked to Cael for confirmation. “Are we?” He wasn’t sure what he was suggesting, only that he wanted that train of thought to stop right this second, no matter what.
Didn’t fucking matter? Because telling him the truth about his brother didn’t matter? The twins didn’t always get along, this was true. But Leon had nothing but respect for Cael and at the end of the day, he didn’t want his brother to die. And if things had changed so much, why hadn’t anyone told him? Shit, why hadn’t Cid or Selphie told him? Right now, he wasn’t going to discuss his reasons for going, because his brain wasn’t going to let him process things that far. It was almost amusing - within half an hour of being in the same room together, the Almasy twins were mirror images of each other, though he doubted Cael had the same gift, curse, whatever that he did. Now wasn’t the time to figure out what was actually wrong with his brother, the emotions in the room making it hard for him to sort anything out, and Viuly’s telekinesis wasn’t helping. “Not out of the picture now,” he muttered, under his breath - and then Cael was shouting. Leon flinched a little at the loudness of it, because like that was going to help an incoming migraine, and blinked. Why was Cael asking him that? “I’m not going anywhere.” Meaning: He wasn’t giving up, either. He was reckless and impulsive, but he was also a fire and that meant that when he decided he was going to do something, damn it, it got done.
A sheer look of horror flashed in Viuly’s wide eyes as she looked over to Cael. She didn’t say that out loud... did she? Well, there was no booze involved, so Viuly liked to think that her thoughts remained as thoughts, but Cael treated them as if they were spoken. His sudden outburst did make her physically take a step away. She was a fire elemental and therefore no stranger to violence - and Zazriel made damn sure of that - but having heard the stories of his fight with Leon over Lumi, Viuly honestly had something to fear. She didn’t want to be physically hurt or have Leon go through that again. But Viuly couldn’t read minds or feel emotions and could only go off of what was presented before her. All she knew was that she was the reason for the two of them yelling more so than usual, and while she enjoyed this sick, twisted version of attention - shut up, brain - she needed to back away before her curse triggered and caused objects to fly around and blow up. Heaving out a shaky breath, Viuly ran some fingers through her red locks of hair, tugging them out of her face before mumbling, “You two fight your battles. I need air.” She slowly made her way to the door, shaking all the while. This wasn’t her idea of a good time and at this rate, it was only going to get worse. I could use a hug right about now.
“This isn’t a pissing match,” Cael snapped back at Leon, frustrated that his brother couldn’t see what this was doing to Viuly. It wasn’t a fair thought, since Leon couldn’t read her mind the way Cael could, but Cael kept sensing his brother could do something similar. If it was just the two of them in the room, he might have been able to figure out what, but with the situation at hand he was doing good to keep his own head on straight. Yelling, he realized after the fact, was a bad idea. Cael had always known he’d taken things too far when he’d put his brother in the hospital over Lumi, but he’d never quite realized the lasting effect it would have on other relationships. Yes, it completely fucked up his bond with Leon, that was taken for granted, but hearing that Viuly was afraid of him was a pain unexpected. It hurt far deeper than finding her love was shared between them, no matter how much he disliked the latter. “Viuly,” he said softly, a sense of panic setting in that he’d never had to deal with when it was just his own thoughts in his head. If he went to hug her now, it would only make things worse.
Leon’s only response to Cael was to roll his eyes. Of course he’d come across as the immature one, when hello, Viuly wasn’t the only one who was struggling here. Leon was hurt. Cael was hurt. And he could feel how each of their emotions were going up and down and fucking sideways with each moment that passed and all he could think about was retreating somewhere dark for a while. By himself - a rarity for a fire elemental. Maybe he’d curl up in his fireplace or something, because like hell he’d be able to do anything with his day now. Feeling Viuly’s fear coupled with Cael’s moment of panic was enough to make his knees buckle a little, reaching out to hold the wall nearby so he didn’t fall over. Damn it, damn it damn it DAMN IT. If Viuly was going to leave, then maybe that was for the best - Leon knew better than to try and talk things out right now. Cael wouldn’t let he and Viuly fight it out the way two fire elementals should, and like hell he wanted to get into a physical fight with Cael right now. Nothing said welcome home like a punch to the face and Leon was not going to the hospital over this shit.
