Who: Peeta Mellark and Katniss Everdeen (whowasonfire)
What: A reunion, and catching up
When: Friday afternoon
Where: The beach
Status: TBC
Peeta was so confused. Was this a ploy of the Capitol? Was it something Snow had cooked up to mess with them? He didn't know, and honestly he didn't really want to. He just wanted to make sure Katniss was ok. This place was so... different... from District 12. So, after speaking with her, he had headed to their designated meeting place - the beach.
He arrived, hands in pants pockets, head down. He was worried about her, but also about himself. Would she continue to reject him? He was almost afraid to find out. He sat on a bench in plain sight, awaiting Katniss.
Katniss was once again thrown into a state of confusion. Sure, finding herself in this place had done a number on her, but the things that Peeta was saying? It was a whole other level of confusing now. That was why she had to get to Peeta.
She made her way down to the beach almost at a run, her hair flying wildly every which way. She wasn't even winded when she finally got to the beach. A smile crossed her face when she saw peter sitting on the bench; a smile that not even Gale's presence had gotten out of her. "Well. There you are." She said, stopping and placing both hands on her hips, trying to look cross with him but failing.
Peeta quickly stood as he saw Katniss approach, and at her smile, he couldn't stop his own from gracing his lips. He was practically beaming when she tried to act upset with him. He crossed his arms over his chest, arching a brow at her. "I'm the one who's been waiting," he pointed out.
Katniss rolled her eyes a little at Peeta."But I've been here longer. Therefore it is you, my friend, that hast kept me waiting." The truth of the matter was, she'd missed Peeta something fierce. Sure, she had Gale, but there was something about Peeta's presence that calmed her in a way that Gale just couldn't do. Taking the bag off of her shoulder, Katniss tossed it to the ground and sat next to Peeta on the bench, the giddiness she felt at seeing him again gone for the moment. "What's going on?"
Peeta watched as Katniss tossed her bag, seemingly so at ease with him. This was different than when he had last seen her. She actually seemed to have missed him. "Well, how long have you been here, Katniss?" he asked, because he didn't remember if she had said so already.
"A couple of weeks, I think?" She sighed, leaning back against the bench. "Everything is kind of a blur still, what with all the attacks and people coming back from the dead." She rolled her eyes a little at that. "Sometimes, it reminds me of the Games. Someone's always being hunted, it seems."
"So, this is a different world? I mean, I've done some observing in the last day or so since I arrived... since I didn't know how to use that device just right. There are so many people, and this is so different from home. I mean... Katniss, I saw you just last night," he said, having been on a tangent when he recalled her first bit, about being here a couple of weeks. How was that possible?
"It would seem. A whole different world." She closed her eyes, trying desperately to think of some logical explanation for this, just like she'd done a thousand times in the last couple of weeks. Still, nothing came to her. "And I'd seen you only moments before I ended up here." Granted, it had been through a window since he hadn't exactly been very happy with her at the time. "And I've only been here a couple of weeks, but you're talking about things that aren't supposed to happen for another year. The Quarter Quell? I mean, we haven't even done that stupid victory tour."
Peeta closed his eyes for a moment as he let her words sink in. It was logical, that since this place was a different reality, a different world, they could be from different times. "Do you think that we are here from different places in time? I mean, I suppose if this place exists, then anything is possible, right?" he asked, hoping she would agree. He needed her to agree. Desperately.
"It's the only thing that makes sense, even though it doesn't." She said, a hint of frustration in her voice. She hated this; not knowing where she was, if she was ever going to see home again. "I hate this. This place, not knowing where I am, or who these people are around me. I keep looking at my neighbors and thinking 'what if they're trying to kill me'? For all I know, they are."
Peeta could hear the frustration in her voice, and gave her a worried look. "No one is going to hurt you. I will make sure of it. Besides, you've been here weeks. Tell me what it's like? Do you have plenty to eat? Do you have your bow?" he asked, leaning forward and bracing his elbows on his knees, his head cocked to the side as he watched her. She was beautifully breathtaking, and he couldn't help but admire her at every turn.
Katniss raised an eyebrow and tried to contain a little laughter at his onslaught of questions. "Always trying to protect me, Peeta." She said, almost fondly. "To be honest? I'd rather be home. Sure, here there's plenty of food, and I managed to get my hands on a decent bow not long after arriving." It had been the first thing she'd set out to do once she'd gotten over the shock. "But that bow will never be as good as the one my father made."
"Of course it won't be," he said seriously. He knew that Katniss' father was everything to her; and he had been a great man. Peeta had respected him tremendously, had loved to listen to him sing. "Besides Gale, is there anyone else from home, that you've seen?" he asked, not entirely sure where to begin, where to go, so jumping all over the place with his inquisitions.
