Who: Haley and Alice
What: Girl talk and advice between best friends
Where: Their dorm
When: Backdated to before this
Rating: G, I suppose
Status: Incomplete and in progress

This was hard. It wasn't every day that the one guy who'd been annoying you for God knows how long kissed you and told you that he liked you. Haley had always felt annoyance toward Lucas bordering on the point of exasperation all of the time. What had been going through her head? 'Why in the world is one of the most popular and good-looking guys in school wasting his time on me when he could have any girl he wants?' That was why she always had tried to direct his attention to a different girl. Any different girl. So long as he wasn't bothering her. But, thinking about it now, it seemed that her annoyance had only been a way to hide underlying feelings for him that she hadn't even understood. That was, she hadn't understood until the kiss on the cheek gone wrong that she and Lucas had shared.

She was confused, which is why she hadn't answered him telling him whether or not she liked him. Talking to someone about it would help. Emily had given her the most straightforward approach. Just try to tell if he was telling the truth and then tell him that she liked him. But being the thinker she was, Haley needed another point of view. Which was exactly why she'd asked Alice to talk. Who better to talk about these sorts of things than your best friend? It was what girls did, after all.

So, just as they'd settled on, Haley was there in the dorm after classes waiting for Alice. Sitting on her bed, she was curled up with a book. Reading did always help to clear her head. And no doubt Alice's advice would be a great deal of help as well.

That was why she loved having Alice for a friend. With her, there was always someone around to listen to her problems and help her out. Haley tried to do the same in return, as any good friend would, but her talent in giving others advice wasn't nearly as good. Alice had to have had a gift. What better best friend could a girl ask for? Certainly no one could top her.

She had told Alice not to worry so much about what she had to talk about. It really wasn't a bad sort of thing, just...confusing. Enough so that trying to explain it through the journals wasn't efficient enough. That was why talking in person about it worked better. Though, she wouldn't have been surprised if the other girl was curious about what exactly they would be talking about. Haley got the same way. When someone didn't tell her something, her mind would get to wondering and that just made the curiosity grow. It probably wasn't too big of an assumption to say that her friend was curious. And that wasn't a bad thing. Knowing, or rather assuming that, made the whole thought of talking about what had happened with her and Lucas easier to handle.

Haley looked up when Alice entered the room in such a hurry. Smiling, she set her book aside and sat up. "Well, I don't think imploding is a very good thing, Alice." She chuckled some, shifting so that she was sitting cross-legged on the bed. "So I'll tell you, obviously. It has to do with me and a guy."

Humans had always interested Alice more than just school work. Everyone was different, and it was intriguing to her to see all the different interactions. It could almost be considered her fascination. She couldn't think of anything she'd really rather do than just help people, and get to know a bit about them in the process. Alice loved Haley's sincerity. Her kindness to everyone was something that Alice respected and adored.

It was a natural reaction to become curious about information that you didn't know. Questions would build and there was simply no answer to them. It didn't really bother her to be curious, except for the fact that she was just itching to know. If it had been almost anyone else, Alice could have been patient for the news, but with Haley and a few others, she wanted to know the situations because they were among her closest friends. It hadn't really been bothering her too badly until the last hour, when time seemed to be dragging slowly through her Father's class. He had noticed as well, but fortunately, he had accepted her wide smile as enough to suffice that she was okay.

The petite blond grinned widely and laughed with Haley, "Precisely," she said, taking the same position and mirroring her friend, listening closely. As soon as she said it was a guy, one picture of a well defined, slightly (or not so slightly) arrogant, goofy face appeared in her mind, "Alright. Lucas Pritchard?" It was stated as a question, but she thought that it was a safe assumption.

Haley would have been just as curious had all of this been happening with a different one of her friends. But because it was happening to her, she was just confused by it all. Nevertheless, any and all of Alice's question would get answered since she was probably itching to find out just what was Haley's problem. That was how it was when you were dealing with close friends. You came to each other to talk about things and the chance to hear what was going on with the other had you curious about it naturally. Honestly, she had been anxious to tell Alice about it during her last few classes of the day. Time dragged a bit when you had something you just needed to say.

She didn't imagine that just mentioning a guy would be enough to make it obvious, but there was always the thought that she was too close to the situation to really see it clearly. Alice's guess was correct. "Yeah, it's Lucas. How'd you know?"

Shaking her head, Haley continued. "Anyway...it's kind of weird. So I'll start at the beginning." Made sense. "He's been bothering me and flirting with me pretty much since we met awhile ago. I never took it seriously, since he had a bunch of girls falling all over him to begin with. Well, at his birthday party I told him that if he could go a whole day without bugging me I'd give him a kiss on the cheek. He won the bet, so I was giving him a kiss on the cheek in the common room. And..." She tucked some of her hair back behind her ear.

"He cheated and kissed me for real. I kissed him back, though I wasn't really thinking about it at the time. Then he told me he liked me..."

The bad thing about waiting to tell someone something was the fact that it seemed to be constantly on your mind. Of course, it had it's advantages too. Waiting to tell someone kept it more of a secret. Alice knew sometimes when she found out surprising information she had a tendancy to make some sort of exclaimation. She was just glad to finally be talking about it though.

Alice smiled softly. Lucas was the first guy that came to mind when she thought of Haley, simply by the way he acted around her. Yes, he could be a jerk, and yes, he flirted a bit much, but he seemed genuinely interested in Haley, "When is it not Lucas?"

Alice listened carefully to the details she was suddenly privy to. All the things Haley said about Lucas being popular with the girls was certainly true. She remained quiet, waiting for the true situation to come out. She noted Haley's small gesture. Tucking her hair behind her ear...was she nervous?

Lucas had kissed Haley. Really kissed her. And Haley had responded...so didn't that mean that Haley liked Lucas as well? That seemed to be the most logical explaination, "Well...first of all, what did you tell him after all this? And secondly...how do you feel about it?"
